Because I Could Not Stop For Death

Emily DickinsonEmily Dickinson

"Because I Could Not Stop For Death" is a famous poem by Emily Dickinson, a renowned American poet. Although Dickinson wrote many poems, only a few were published during her lifetime. After her death, her younger sister discovered a collection of almost eighteen hundred poems, leading to the publication of Dickinson's first volume four years later. It's interesting to note that her poems underwent significant edits and alterations until 1955, when Thomas H. Johnson published Dickinson's Complete Poems in their original manuscript versions. Despite this, Dickinson's work has remained popular, and her poetry has been continuously in print since 1890.
