The Book of Baruch, also known as 1 Baruch, is a part of the Bible called the Deuterocanon or Apocrypha. While it is not included in the Hebrew Bible, it can be found in the Greek Bible and the Vulgate Bible. The book was written as an exhortation to the Jews who were in exile, encouraging them to accept their situation, have hope in God's mercy, and resist the temptation to worship the idols of other nations. It is named after Baruch ben Neriah, who was the scribe of the prophet Jeremiah. Scholars believe that the book was written during or shortly after the time of the Maccabees. In some versions of the Bible, like the Vulgate and the King James Bible, there is an additional chapter called the Letter of Jeremiah, which is included at the end of the Book of Baruch.
