The founder of the company gave a speech about how we should be like the beaver. The beaver's determination and focus on building a dam to protect his family is an important lesson. The beaver uses the sound of running water as a trigger to take action. We should also know our "why" and take action towards our goals. We should not worry about obstacles or distractions, but stay focused and keep moving forward. Recently, our founder and president, Bedros Koulian, addressed a group of FBBC owners with a really simple message, ìBe like the beaver.î As you can imagine, this delivered some giggles and scratching heads at first. How in the world am I like a beaver and why would I want to be? As usual, Bedros delivered, ìYou see, a beaver builds stems. We all know that, but we donít necessarily think about the determination or the singularity of focus that the beaver possesses in order to build a dam to protect his little family. His ìwhyî is pretty important. His family and his course of action is clear. Stop the water and build the dam.î The beaver hates the sound of running water because it messages that heís not meeting his goal. The sound of running water is his trigger to move, to focus, and to take action toward his goal. Recognizing our ìwhyî, knowing our triggers, focusing on whatís in front of us, and taking action are all really powerful lessons that we can learn from the beaver. The beaver does not worry about the circumstances that keep him from accomplishing his goals. Heís not concerned about the weather, other creatures hindering his progress, or the humans destroying his careful work. Nope. The beaver just keeps his head down and takes the next step towards building his dam, no matter what it takes. Today, when there seems to be too much going on to focus on your goals or your ìwhysî, be like the beaver. Be singular in your focus. Think about the very next thing you can do to bring you closer to your goals. And donít stop until itís done. Just like the beaver.
