It was released in 1957 and it was directed by the famous Lucino Visconti. It was also played and acted by Marcello Mastroni and the German actor Maria Sichel. So while watching this film, I would say that some important moments that I found really interesting was a couple of scenes, like at the beginning was when Mario and Natalia first met. It was filled with really romantic tension and longing. As you watch the film, you can really feel the way that they really do act out and they really show the emotions for the viewers that are going to watch the film. Another one would be where Mario and Natalia dance together in the streets. I found that very beautiful and very romantic. It was capturing the ideal of falling in love. Another one would be Mario confessing his love for Natalia. I think that was a powerful moment because it showed how a romantic film usually is and how they confess their love for each other and how it just shows an amazing moment for the woman and the man. Lastly, I think it would also be the end of the film, which would be the true love between Mario and Natalia. But instead of being like every other love film, it was more of a haunting film in a way because it didn't end up as most people would have thought it would have ended up as. Besides the film and its moments, I want to talk about the director, Lucino Visconti. He was a very famous Italian filmmaker. He had very successful films. He made a lot of films during his lifetime. If you guys want to check out more of them, I would say you should because his films were very unique. He just really explored different subjects and different themes into his work. I loved how a lot of his work was on his own style and the way he wanted to make it. A lot of his films, he had a really creative and imaginative mind. It really helped him put his films together. Going back to the film that I chose, a brief summary of what it was. It was a plot that followed a lonely young man named Mario who met a woman named Natalia on a bridge in St. Petersburg. They spent the night together wandering the city and talking about their lives. Over the course of the film, Mario falls in love with Natalia. She becomes torn between him and her ex-boyfriend because at the beginning of the film, she was upset. She was crying because she was waiting for her ex-boyfriend, you would say, to come after a year as he promised. She waited and waited and waited. He never arrived. Mario kind of took up that role where he wanted her to really look at things more realistic and kind of give her the end of the bargain and say that sometimes love is just difficult. When it can't happen, it's not meant to be with two people. It was meant to be with two people. There is this one quote during the film where Natalia had said, we'd said nothing but for me it was as if we said everything. It was one of my favorite quotes that was in the film. I think because when someone's in love, there's moments where you just kind of don't want to speak but you love the presence of the person. I think in that moment, it's a different type of feeling to be with a normal person to a person you love. I think that as she said, we said nothing but for me it just felt like everything. I think that was a really deep connection towards it. The three main characters in this film were Mario, which was acted by Marcelo Mostrani. It was Natalia that was played by Maria Chow. And Linquino, which was played by Jean Marias. Basically, these actors were the main actors that kind of make the film and act out the film very well. A short story of who Marcelo was. He was an Italian actor. He was given awards from the British Film Academy Award. He was the Best Actor Award at the Canes Film Festival. He also had two Globe Awards. His character in this film was a humble clerk, lonely for social reasons. He is a stranger and a newcomer to his town as well. He starts to find interest in this beautiful girl, Natalia. Going past Mario, Maria Chow playing Natalia, she was an Austrian whiz actor. She was one of the leading stars of German cinema as well during the 1950s and 1960s. Her character, Natalia, was someone who always lived in isolation. Her loneliness kind of intensified because she was always in love with this man, but she never knew he would ever return to her. So it made other relationships for her very impossible. Next up was Linquino, which was acted by Jean Marias. Jean Marias was a popular French cinema actor and director who played over 100 films on television as well. He was also known for many of his time as a writer, painter, and sculptor. Linquino was basically Natalia's man that she had been waiting for. As he arrives, she kind of has to choose between Mario or Linquino. This film actually received many positive reviews from critics. Many even praised the film because of how beautiful it was made and also the performance of the leading actors. Some critics also noted that the film was a romantic tone that was set throughout most of the film. Some awards that Notte Bianche actually received was, in 1957, the Venice Film Festival. They had won the Silver Lion for the best director and was also nominated for the Golden Lion Award for the best film. This film also went on to win the Italian National Cinematic Film Journalist Award for also the best director and was nominated for the Best Cinematography Award as well. At the beginning, I had brought up how there was that one quote that I really found interesting, but I also caught up with some other quotes that I really found interesting. I really talked about how love is and how it is to a person and how two people can be in love and what are the bad things about it and what are the good things about it. These are some that I think were really fascinating for me and really spoke out to me and really made me feel like this is what love is. Lastly, I want to talk about my compare and contrast with another film that we have watched. I compared it to Facing Windows because both of these films are romantic dramas that explore themes of love, loneliness, and human connection. They're set in Italy and they feature beautiful cinematography and also very strong performance from leading actors. These films have very similar ways, but they still have their own unique differences as well. I really encourage all of you guys to watch this film. I think it's a very amazing film. I think the cinematography of it is spectacular and the director of this has a very unique way of making his films and it becomes very interesting and you really look into the deeper meaning of what he really played out on these films.
