Talk Sport and Connemara Community Radio are supporting Galway County Council's anti-litter campaign. They emphasize the importance of keeping roadways, towns, and villages litter-free. They encourage everyone to put their litter in bins, whether driving or meeting up with friends. They also pay tribute to Rean Sheridan, a beloved member of the community who recently passed away. Rean was described as a positive, respectful, and resourceful young man who excelled in academics, sports, and traditional music. Various GAA clubs and schools share their condolences and memories of Rean, highlighting his talent, dedication, and friendly nature. Kilbride GAA Club expresses their sadness at his passing and mentions his involvement in their club as a player. Talk Sport and Connemara Community Radio support Galway County Council in their anti-litter campaign. We all have a responsibility to ensure that our roadways, towns and villages are litter-free. So whether driving or meeting up with friends, don't forget to always put your litter in a bin. Please play your part. It's easy to make a difference. Please play your part. After the sports round-up on behalf of Clifton GAA, to read out a special tribute that he himself has written to Peter Fitzpatrick, the iconic Clifton GAA personality, who was laid to rest at our Bear Cemetery last Saturday. Opening the series of tributes to Rean Sheridan is Helen Farrity, Vice Principal of Eagles Nest National School. Eagles Nest Board of Management and teaching staff would like to extend our deepest sympathies to all of Rean's family. Rean Sheridan attended Eagles Nest National School from 2004 to 2012. He was blessed from the start with a happy, cheerful disposition and an infectious smile. He revelled in the social side of school and he developed many meaningful friendships during his time there. He was a pleasure to teach and diligent and organised in all his academic endeavours. Rean's great love of nature was evident from a very early age. He really enjoyed the outdoor classroom and developed a deep love of farming throughout his formative years. He pursued his life's passion after leaving the nest and a subsequent graduation from UCD was a major milestone therein. Rean was endowed with a great natural aptitude for sport. His physical prowess, mature temperament and high work ethic served him well in the heat of competitive battle and he wore the black and red jersey with great pride and distinction. Rean's traditional music journey commenced at Eagles Nest and he embraced it wholeheartedly and steadfastly. His subsequent achievements on the county, provincial and national stage were the product of many prolonged hours of dedication and commitment to a process that deeply resonated with him. Above all, we remember Rean today as a positive, respectful and resourceful young man who gave his all to life and achieved an immense amount therein. Eireas Dei, go raibh maith agat. The second tribute on behalf of Rinnevale GAA was written by Secretary Johnny Coyne and is read out for us by Rinnevale Chairperson Sean McGrath. On Thursday morning, 28th March, we were given the terrible news that one of our own, Rean Sheridan, had been involved in a fatal traffic accident the night before. The news rocked the whole Cullamara area and none more than everyone connected to Rinnevale GAA. Rean came from a fantastic family and each and every one of them had given much to our community down through the years. Rean represented Rinnevale with pride since he first laced a boot. When Rean took to the pitch, you were guaranteed his direct opponent was going to have a tough outing, giving Rean tenacious style of play and willingness to never give up. Rean represented Rinnevale from U7 up to U13 and from then up to minor played on a Rinnevale Clifton amalgamation. After spending three years going to school on Inishmore and Arran Islands, Rean represented Cullamara on the 20 level whilst still representing his beloved Rinnevale Junior. Rean was an all-rounder and was just as comfortable putting in the hard yards in a match as he was playing in goal where he was equally as reliable. At the end of last season, Rean transferred to Kilbride GAA Club Muscommon. While we were sad to see him leave, given his dedication and commitment to training and playing, we knew that by him joining Kilbride was only going to make it easier for him to continue playing given he was now living and starting a life for himself there. It comes as no surprise to anyone who knew Rean, he made an immediate impact on his new teammates in his adopted club and as a club we thank Kilbride for welcoming him with open arms. Rean was a fine young man and an inspiration to all his peers. His massive love for traditional Irish music, Irish language, farming and GAA and all sports in general made him an example to everyone and he made so many friends through all of those activities in his 24 young years. Rean never went on or off a GAA pitch without a smile on his face and Rean Ball GAA will make it our mission that his memory and smile will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Rean. The third tribute to Rean this evening comes from Cumann Ní Fféin an Clachán, Clifton GAA. It was written by Gerry Gannon, Chairperson of Clifton Youth Development and I will read it out now on Gerry's behalf and on behalf of Cumann Ní Fféin an Clachán. We are truly sorry to hear of the tragic and untimely passing of Rean Sheridan, a member of our neighbouring club Rynfael GAA. Rean was a role model and inspiration for all those he played with and against. He represented Rynfael on the amalgamated Rynfael-Clifton minor team of 2015, lining out between the posts with the distinction. At the time the minor grade was under 18 years and Rean, still eligible to play under 16, belied his years with several confident performances. The team narrowly lost out to St Michael's that year, losing by the narrowest of margins in the Westport Championship Final. His popularity within the squad was very evident by the large number of teammates who lined the street on April 1st last, as he made his final journey home. His broad smile and positive attitude will always be remembered by those who had the pleasure of meeting him. Cumann Ní Fféin an Clachán extends its deepest sympathies to Finnean, Marie, Ciara, Derin, Éibhinn, Chris, Fionn, Sé and Áine, as well as to the extended families of the Sheridans, O'Tools and Griffins. Ar gheastea go raibh anam níolais. Tribute number 4 comes in this evening from Cumann Ní Fféin an Clachán, Arcea, Clambore, GAA, and was written by Dr Joe Kern. We were deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of Rean Sheridan, a great friend of the Clambore GAA club and joined us for a very successful Under-20 campaign in 2019. This was the first time in 10 years that we as a small rural club were able to field a team at this level and only for Rean it wouldn't have happened. He became a stalwart of our midfield and was a great link man between the backs and forwards and always gave of his best. He fitted straight in to the team and was very popular with the lads. In the quarter-final of the championship we were drawn away to a much fancy Clifton team and Rean helped us that day to put off what I call the miracle of Clifton despite being on the receiving end of some robust treatment. After overcoming Ross Muck in the semi-final the stage was set for the West final at home to Killennan. A large crowd gathered in Clambore to see a thrilling contest that finished level in noble time. The game went to extra time and waxed and waned but alas it was not to be our day. Rean's sister Keira told me afterwards that she spent the match shouting, Ref can you not see that they keep hitting Rean? Yet Rean never complained. Myself and my co-managers Tom McGuigan and Father Gerry Burns were honoured to have had Rean with us for an all too short a time. He was always smiling and in good humour and we'll be sorely missed. I wish him all the best Dr Joe Clambore. My involvement with the GAA and UCD has provided me with some of my fondest memories from my time in college and I'm sure Rean cherished those memories too. The sense of belonging and the 30 or 40 friends you instantly meet in the first few weeks of college through the GAA is something that I and I'm sure Rean was incredibly grateful to experience. Rean is remembered in UCD for his resilience and his will to succeed. His football career in UCD began on the second team but after a few outstanding performances demonstrating the perseverance he possessed he burst onto the first team proving to be a vital player later on in the championship campaign. Rean mainly played in the half-back position. He was a very tenacious defender and always offered himself up to nullify the best of the opponents attackers. Rean was also very versatile and liked to threaten the opposition goal at any opportunity that arose. This was very evident in a very tight game we played against Manute in the final group game of the Freshers' Championship where we needed a win to progress to the quarter-final. I fondly remember Rean popping up in the right place at the right time to score a goal and steal the win away from Manute keeping our chances of getting to the quarter-final alive. This exemplified Rean as a player standing up when the chips were down and showcasing his huge talent. I'm sure this game and the goal he scored made Rean very proud judging by the smile on his face after the game and also how often we were reminded of the goal in the following weeks. Rean was a dear friend of mine and team-mate and he will be sorely missed. Ar gaeaspe dae. Ar raibh maith agat. The sixth tribute this evening comes from Conor Devaney on behalf of Kilbride GAA Club in County Rathcommon. We at Kilbride GAA Club were deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the tragic and untimely passing of Rean Sheridan. To Rean's parents, sisters and the extended Sheridan family of Ryanville, his loving girl Fredonia and the Griffin family, we continue to extend our sincere sympathies. Rean has been part of the Kilbride community for many years and joined Kilbride GAA Club as a player in 2024. Many of the Kilbride players have known him over the years from visiting and staying with the Griffin family of Forman House. Anya, his girlfriend, plays for Kilbride and it brought her great happiness when he joined her home club here in Kilbride. Anya joked that she became quite distracted at training as the men's and ladies' team often trained at the same time and she kept a close eye on how Rean was doing at his training. Rean played at full-back with distinction for the intermediate team's first two league games this year. This is a position that the team were struggling to fill and Rean had never played for any length of time in this position before. Rean being Rean, however, accepted his new role happily and as was his nature, he just got on with it. He was hugely impressive in this position in our opening two league games, a physical and skilful player that teammates around him felt safe to have behind them. In his short few months training and playing with Kilbride, he made a lasting impression as a person of integrity, he was dedicated, kind and friendly. His dedication seemed to know no bounds. We as a management team decided upon a 1200 metre run as our standard fitness test to be ran every six weeks for the season. Rean was impressive on his first one of these tests but desperately wanted to better himself. He had just completed one during his last training with Kilbride and he had taken a massive, almost unheard of 40 seconds off his previous time. After completing the test, he stated that he wished to take at least another 20 seconds off the time by the time he did the next one. This was the measure of the man. He was evidently a leader on the team already. His energy was always positive and greatly influenced those around him. This kind of energy cannot be replaced and the surety and steadiness he brought to the full back position would be a massive loss to all his teammates. It was apparent to everyone that this position won't be filled the way Rean did so anytime soon and so we decided the number 3 jersey should be retired for the upcoming season. Everywhere Rean went he made friends very easily. This was no different after joining our team. We have tea, sandwiches and a chat after every training and Rean was always at the heart of that, laughing and joking. Many of the players have commented that chatting to him felt like you knew him all your life. This to me is exactly what it felt like to know Rean. He was interesting, kind and good humoured. A person you could chat to all evening. We are all so glad we shared those moments over a cup of tea with Rean. It won't be the same without him. Once again, our heartfelt sympathies go out to Agnes, his parents, sisters and extended family at this heartbreaking time. R.S.J. Garreau and Agnes. Tribute number 7 this evening to Rean comes from James Johnson on behalf of West Coast United Football Club. Rean Sheridan was a talented young soccer player whose light was extinguished far too soon. I was honoured to be involved with Rean during my time spent as head coach for the West Coast United senior soccer team. Rean showed great passion in all he attempted and this was evident in the way he played in goals for West Coast United. His enthusiasm at training and in matches was infectious and his talent as a goalkeeper was always top class. The way Rean communicated with those around him was admirable as he was able to instil confidence and trust in his teammates and provide a solid foundation for the rest of the team to build and drive on from. Beyond his athletic prowess, Rean displayed maturity beyond his years having a positive impact on his teammates, coaches, friends and community and showed a natural ability to bring people together and lift their spirits both on and off the field. He was a leader in the making. Though Rean may no longer grace the soccer pitch with his presence, his spirit continues to inspire us all to pursue our dreams with unwavering passion and determination. As we bid farewell to Rean, let us hold on to the cherished memories we have shared and find solace in knowing that he will forever remain in our hearts. The eighth and final tribute tonight comes from Granewale's LGFA. Granewale's LGFA extended community was overcome with a deep sense of sadness and anguish last week upon hearing of the sudden and tragic death of Rean Sheridan. Rean's three sisters, Ciara, Deryn and Avian all represented our club with great pride and distinction over many years and were undoubtedly a positive influence on Rean as he subsequently embarked on his own football journey with Rinneval GAA. Rean's natural football talent was very evident from an early age and it was nurtured and developed under the loving guidance and support of his parents, Maria and Finian. Finian gave of his time selflessly during this period to the coaching and management of underage teams in Granewale's LGFA. Rean attended many matches in support of his father and his sisters and they reciprocated in kind in later years when his turn came to shine. Rean had so many admirable attributes as a Gaelic footballer and espoused an ethos and a work ethic that earned him the admiration of his coaches and comrades alike. He was a carbon copy of Finian in this respect and the sporting inheritance that was passed on to Rean by his father was there for all to see every time he took to the field. Rean's connection to LGFA was ultimately destined to extend beyond our club all the way to his second home in Kilbride, the Roscommon club that his beloved Aine plays for. Her community share our community's grief and acute sense of devastation and despair at this time as we try to come to terms with Rean's passing. Granewale's LGFA hereby extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to Finian, Marie, Ciara, Deryn, Eibhinn, Chris, Fionn, Sé, Áine as well as to the extended Sheridan, O'Toole and Griffin families. You are all in our collective thoughts and prayers at this time. I would like to take this opportunity to extend a special word of thanks and appreciation to all the people who wrote those beautiful tributes to Rean Sheridan on behalf of their sporting organisations. And on behalf of Connemara Community Radio and all our listeners we once again extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Sheridan, O'Toole and Griffin families and their huge loss.
