The Grainne Wales Under-14s had two heartbreaking one-point defeats in their respective divisions. They will be playing again in Round 2. The Under-18 Division 3 Championship saw a comprehensive victory for Uptoward. The Grainne Wales adult team will be playing in the Division 2 Shield Final against Barna. The soccer season resumes with West Coast United playing in Division 2. The OMI races were successfully held, but the results are not available yet. The Clifton Pony Show and the Uptoward Show had various winners and champions. GAA fixtures for the week ahead include matches in the Under-19 C Championship and the Under-13 Division 5 Championship. The round-robin phase of the Primary Junior Championship West is nearing its end. Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Gráinne Wales B, 3-7, Carlistran 4-5, two heartbreaking one-point defeats there for the Gráinne Wales Under-14s in their respective divisions. And they're in action again this coming week in Round 2. Lisa Cole and Katie take their Division 3 side all the way to Ornmoor to take on Niamh Werla on Saturday. That's at 6pm, that's next Saturday, August the 31st. And the Under-14 B team, they travel to Cartoon, to Brownsgrove in Cartoon, to play Tune Cartoon. That one is on Friday at 6pm. Under-18 Division 3 Championship, Gráinne Wales 11 points, Uptoward 3-12. So a comprehensive victory there for Uptoward in the Connemara Derby in Letterfrack last week. Gráinne Wales Under-12s are away to Kilkern, Llanberan this evening, so I haven't heard anything yet from Llanberan on that one. Under-16 fixture tomorrow evening, Division 4 Championship in Letterfrack at 7pm. Gráinne Wales, Somalia, Inae, Niamh, Anna, Letcher, Moore. And Gráinne Wales adult team who play League at intermediate level in Division 2 and Championship at Junior A level. They have the Division 2 Shield Final down for decision against Barna. Barna beating St James' by 2-16 to 1-5 to preserve their Intermediate League status. So Carla Strann and James' are relegated to Division 3 and Gráinne Wales and Barna, they retain their status. And they play the Shield Final and we're not sure yet whether it's going ahead on Saturday or Sunday. That still hasn't been worked out. So we'll just have to wait and see how it pans out. In the County Junior A Championship in Ladies, which is the equivalent of the Primary Junior Championship in Men's. Round 1 in Gráinne Wales' group, it was Clann Bar, Ní Fhparraig an Orthea, 8 points, Carla Strann 4-14. A facile victory there for Carla Strann. And next up in that round is Gráinne Wales against Clann Bar on September 7th in Letterfrack. Soccer next, and the soccer season resumes this weekend. And West Coast United will be playing their trade at Division 2 level this year. Relegated last year from the Championship. And they're out on Saturday at 3pm, I think it is, on Saturday. They're at home to Curzon United B. It's part of a doubleheader with West Coast United's under-14s who have been promoted up to Championship level based on their exploits at Under-13 level last year. And they take on Lough Rea at 12.30pm. Followed then by the aforementioned adult match between West Coast United and Curzon United. So, a time of transition and rebuilding for West Coast United adults. And the very best to look to them now in their new division for the coming season. On to Equestrian, starting with the OMI races. And they were ran off successfully on Saturday. We weren't able to procure the results for this bulletin. But we do hope to have them for next Monday night's bulletin. Thanks again to Mary Madden for sending me through all those results and well done there to everyone who placed in all of those equestrian competitions. And I wrap up tonight with GAA. Under 15 Division 4A Championship Shield Final, Kilconley 613, Clonbar 15. Under 17 C West Championship, Carna Cashin-Le-Piercy 2-9 on Spigel 4-6. Calannan 2-8, 2-19 sorry, 2-19 so a big win there for Carna Cashin-Le-Piercy in that first one. Calannan 2-8, Carna Cashin-Le-Piercy 4-13. Clonbar 15 on Spigel 1-9. Niamh-Anna-Letcher-Moore 1-9. Clifton 7-10. And that wrapped up the round-robin phase of that championship and it's on Spigel and I, Carna Cashin-Le-Piercy in the final of that. So well done to both of those teams on reaching the final. GAA fixtures for the week ahead starting with this coming Wednesday August the 28th. Under 19 C Championship West, both of these matches going ahead at 7 o'clock. In Clonbar it's Clonbar and I, Niamh-Anna-Letcher-Moore. And Clifton against Carna Cashin-Le-Piercy in Clifton. And next Saturday, the 31st of August, Under 13 Division 5 Championship at 10am in Loch George. Saltel-Nat-Na-Cara against Clonbar. And then later on at 2.15pm it's the turn of Clifton Under 13s and they're playing at Division 3A Championship level. And their opponents are Ornmore-Murray. And finally, getting close now to the end of the round-robin phase of the Primary Junior Championship West. Which is very, very competitive. And we have Round 4 of it on this Sunday at 1pm. It's Father Griffin's Era Oak against Clonbar. And on Carrarua are at home, and I, Corna Cashin. And Renveil will be waiting on those results. Hoping that Clonbar will overcome Father Griffin's Era Oak. I'm not sure is there relegation or not from that. If there is, Clonbar will absolutely have to win to give themselves any chance of avoiding relegation. So we just have to wait and see how that will pan out. And finally tonight, Intermediate Championship Group 3 Round 2 at 1pm in the Prairie in Salt Hill. It's Clifton against Kilconnelly. And whoever wins that one will definitely qualify for the quarter-finals of this year's County Intermediate Championship. And a draw between the two teams who won their opening matches wouldn't be a bad result for either team either. Best of luck to Clifton in that. Hello good evening listeners, welcome to Talk Sport on this Monday evening. Still a bit overcast and a very wintry weather, so I suppose we'll just have to make do with it. The kids are back at school, it's the onset of autumn but the sporting world continues. In the headlines in Formula One, Max Verstappen loses again to Lando Norris in the Dutch Grand Prix. So the lead is closing there. And the soccer, Galway United had a good away draw with Shamrock Rovers to continue their form at the top of the Irish Premiership League there. And still with an opportunity to get European football in the Premiership. Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool continue their successful start to the new league campaign with wins and a good 4-0 victory for Spurs over Everton. Those are the main headlines. Also in golf, Rory McIlroy finished a little bit down the field in the BMW Championship in America there. And Shane Lowry as well, a little bit down the field in the British Women's Open. Leona Maguire had a disappointing 4-over par as Lydia Coe continued her success after winning the Olympic Games title. She wins the Women's British Open yesterday. Over the course of the next hour or so, we hope to touch base with Francie Foley from Clifton. And we hope to have Tony Coyne from Nisbahain in Clifton there. So hopefully you'll join us for the course of the programme over the next while. Now we're joined by Tony Coyne from Nisbahain in Clifton there. Tony, thanks for joining us again. Good evening to you. Good evening to you. And the weather is still very wintry and I suppose we've seen how it's affected a lot of events. I know in Clifton you had the pony show there and all of the trials and tribulations of that. But on the GAA pitches, I suppose the games continue. So I know we were touching before on your progress in the Intermediate Championship. But you've had some underage games in the last few days, have you Tony? We did, yeah. Unfortunately for the weather, it paid tribute to an under-19 game. That was postponed just due to a weather alert that was out there with the heavy rains and wind. That was a game against Uxbridge, so that had to be rescheduled. But at the weekend, those are on Thursday evening, our under-12s are in Uxbridge. So they had a good win down there. And then at the weekend at the pitch there, the minis, they had a blitz there against Clannan on Saturday. So that was good for them, all the youngsters out there. And then yesterday, our U17s, our minor team, were down a letter more. They had a good win down there, a comprehensive victory down there. So that's the end of their league campaign now. They're just waiting for results to be confirmed, to see where they're finished in the table. Then move on, either to the latter of the Championship or a Shield competition. So we're just waiting for results to come from there to be confirmed. But they're still going to qualify for a knockout stage eventually in the stage. And just matches coming up. Our 19th now, we're back in action on Wednesday evening. That's the local derby there against Caracas in the Piersie. That's six for seven on the pitch. So we're hoping that will go ahead, whether permitting of course, but I think it can all go well. That should go ahead. And then our intermediates are back out in action next Sunday. We're playing Kilkenny, and that game is in the Prairie there. So until at one o'clock next Sunday. So that's round two of the intermediates for them. Yeah, and we're hoping that you'll have a good success against in the intermediates. Obviously St. Brendan, Ilan Aran as well, also in that. And very competitive. And of course we go across the other leagues in the intermediates as well. Of course, Cardiff Inn have their second team out that they're in there. With Spidle, I suppose, and other teams. Caltran, but just all, Kilkenny, Cambarn, all the top names. So it'll be well contested there. But as I said, you can only mind your own business at the moment. So you've got off to the good start with the one win under your belt there. We did. I just had a really good win last weekend against St. Brendan. So we're hoping to build on that. Kilkenny also had a win over Aran. So two winners now come together. So we're hoping to build on it. Kilkenny would certainly not expect that again. But they'd be every bit as good if not better than them. So we expect a huge test. Confidence is good in the camp at the minute with the win. It gives lads good confidence. They trained last week and trained on Saturday morning. So we'll train a couple of nights this weekend to get ready for the weekend. We'll give it a go. As I said, it's good to get a win on the first day out. Indeed. What I was often wondering as well, Tony, is for yourselves and other clubs as well. The under-17s, the under-19s. It's great ways of bringing on the youngsters. And seeing, as well, just the emerging talent and getting the games under your belt at that age. And, of course, younger as well. But everything helps in the structure of a club going forward for good experience and just bringing them on. Of course, it does mean that people are always trying to build an under-age structure. Without an under-age structure, you won't have a senior club. So it's good. As we always say, if you can take a few minors every year to progress them to adult level, you're doing well. That's what most clubs always tell you. We've had good circuit this year. I think from last year's minor, we had three lads who progressed to the senior panel. One of them is starting and the other two are very close. So they're all involved. They're all in there. They're in the league and now they're on to the championship. It's great development. As I say, from 17 to 19, the age group gets stronger. They're moving up to adult level. So we're happy with the way things have progressed so far. As I said before, even these development days out, up in the Centre of Excellence there in Beacon. I know a few players from the club. Cardiff Castle and all of the other clubs, they all have players going from time to time. All of that helps as well. Seeing the set-up there, the wonderful structures. And of course, maybe linking in with other coaches. It all fits into the bigger picture. It does. It's great development. It's always good to be involved in Balboa County. It's different from the club and that's a great experience for them. We've been in the autumn and autumn. The local clubs have been parching up. We've had guys advance at most levels. Hopefully, as I said, that's just progressed so far. The development is even better. It's great. On your own pitch there now, I suppose. Was there some development of all weather there at the GAA pitch? There was, you're right. We had a bit of development there. Thankfully, it's all been finished now and ready to go. Right now, we're just getting a booking process. The club have been using us. We've used it ourselves. There was great help last week with pitches. We had to do some of the training there for the lads. It was great for the juveniles as well. They can use it as well. They have bigger numbers. It spreads out everything. It's a great facility for the club to have. It's going to be available there in the winter. Probably more so over the winter months. It's going to take 44 days and all that. My other group said the lads will come together. They want to do their own thing. It's a wonderful facility. Certainly, if we get the weather like we did, it's going to have to save the grass pitch as well. That would come under a lot of pressure. I know it's a very important amenity for a lot of clubs. I know County Cash will have one in Kilkier. Any club looking at going forward, some good all-weather facilities out in Letterfrack. They're linking in with West Coast United. The GAA clubs are multi-purpose. Multi-sports. Whoever can use them and avail them. I'm sure they'll be well booked up over the course of the winter months there. Again, you have your itinerary set out there. The upcoming game with Kilconley. Training is continuing there. It won't be long, I suppose. I don't know how this will affect it. The rugby season will be back and running. Do you have some possibly dual players between the rugby and the GAA? There is. As I said, there is the rugby season. They're probably getting themselves organised to get back into training. It can be difficult for the lads, but it's manageable. We work together as best we can. There are dual players there. The football is in full swing at the moment. The rugby starts. Hopefully, by the time the football is finished, the rugby gets into full swing and then they switch over. It's manageable. We just manage it as we go along. The lads are great. They get themselves organised. It's just the theory we're in. That's what it is. The guys are our dual sports stars. There are dual sports players. It's manageable. It's obviously managed with the two clubs. It's a great relationship between the two clubs. Very good. Since we've been talking, back in the day, we'd be talking about All-Ireland and semifinals and finals up and coming. It's all done and dusted. It's a few weeks behind us now. It all came together there. We had Galway competing in maybe three All-Irelands in a row. It didn't go well. It's a quiet time of year. Obviously, we look around for the club structure now and the senior championship in the Round Robin. Whoever emerges out of Galway will always give a good run in the All-Ireland Championship. I suppose it's early days yet. Cora Finn are, after just their first game out, they're going to be there about a letter more, I suppose, top of their league. I'll tell you nothing. They're never too far away. Mike Cullen, of course, is emerging as well. It'll be always interesting to watch the progress of the Galway team and who emerges. The senior championship is very competitive. Like everything else, they're going to Round 2 next weekend as well. I suppose that's the usual clubs you expect to come to this first round. There's good clubs, good emerging clubs, who have done more. Mike Cullen is very close there. You had Calgary beating Tuam. Even up for out, they have Cora Finn, a very good game of it. It's great to see these clubs coming through as well. They're getting stronger. Obviously, the Cora Finns and the Sardinians and Montbelliers and that. Very, very competitive championship, I suppose. Difficult for some of the county lads, but they get back into it as well after a disappointing campaign in the All-Ireland. Most of them are back there with the clubs. A win in the All-Ireland was short in the winter. We had a great impetus, but it's one of those things, as I said, to reach to All-Ireland in three years and the disappointment, maybe, that it was left behind. They'll get over that. In the hurling as well, in the club structure, they'll be competitive there with St. Thomas, the All-Ireland champions. They'll be interesting to watch going forward. Galway, as I said, is a very sporting county. Hurling, football, camogie, obviously, soccer as well. The soccer team is going reasonably well. Galway sports fans to follow over the course of the season. As I said, the hurling talent is in full swing as well. It's alternative. In this county, it was hurling last weekend because of the geostatics. It's all in full swing now. Again, the hurling is that. Probably in the same because the hurling, they have a new manager coming in now. That's right. That would be interesting to see. It opens up an announcement in September. He was there before. He won an All-Ireland medal. He knows the club scene is good. They're going to stay in in-house this time. They're not going outside the county. They're hoping to find somebody to go in the county. Interesting, exciting times coming up in the hurling as well. Very good. Just to wrap up, is there anything else on the local level that you'd like to share with us? No. I think that's all.
