The gross went to John Staunton on 30 points gross, and Donal Meagher was third on 36 points. The ladies overall winner was Carmel Gohan on 38 points, with Margaret Shaw runner-up there on 33. And yesterday, Sunday the 15th of September, stroke competition, the winner was Paddy Flaherty on 65 net, second David Duffy on 65 net, gross went to Luke O'Neill on 70 gross. Jack Cosgrove was third on 67 net, fourth was Donal Staunton on 67 net, and fifth Michael Aitburn on 67 net. And in the ladies competition, the winner was Sinead Foyle on 67 net, second Mary Howley on 67 net, gross went to Noreen O'Neill on 82 gross. Third was Fiona Joyce on 69 net, fourth Margaret Shaw on 70 net, and Celine Healy was yesterday's winner of the ladies nine-hole Stableford competition on 21 points. And that wraps up the golf for the moment. Moving on to soccer, West Coast United's adult team had no match at the weekend at Division 2 level, but other teams did. And West Coast now lie in seventh place overall in the table, five points behind giant leaders Merlin Woods and East Galway United, but they do have a game in hand. Their next fixture is down for the 28th of September, in two weeks' time away to Mary or Moores Sea. Connacht Under-16 Cup Round 1 played at Claddagh Duff over the weekend. West Coast United 1, Aris Ainthea 3. Aris United from North West Mayo there, coming out on top in that one. Connacht Under-14 Cup Round 1, Banliflo Town 1, West Coast United 5. Great win there for the West Coast Under-14s down in South East Galway. And soccer fixtures for the weekend, it's a double header in Letterfrack next Saturday, the 21st of September. Under-15 Division 1 level, West Coast United against Loughquay at 12.30, followed by Under-13 at Division 3 level, West Coast United against Barn in Afurbica, B, that's at 2pm. And finally tonight, GAA, starting with County Men's Intermediate Championship Round 3, Clifton 2-6, Illinore 1-8, and a late, late goal from Clifton's outstanding midfielder of many years, Conal Joyce. Clifton snatching victory there from the jaws of defeat. I was listening to it actually on Randy Gail's list, it was quite dramatic, and Clifton come through there by a point. They didn't need to win that game, they were already confirmed as group winners. The other three group winners in that 16-team championship are as follows, Ormond-Marey, Caltra and St. Gabriel. And those four teams are through automatically now to the quarter-finals. The four teams who have to battle it out to avoid relegation are as follows, Kilkern-Clan-Byrne, Illon-Oron, Minla, last year's junior champions, finding it very tough at intermediate level this year, and Williamstown. So then the eight teams not mentioned there by myself are all through to the preliminary quarter-finals. They all finished in either second or third place, and there will be a series of preliminary quarter-finals now to get the other four teams to make up the quarter-finals. So Clifton won't have a game now for a while. Primary junior championship West result, Karnakashal 2-11, Father Griffin 0-0, 13 points. And that confirms Karnakashal as finishing second overall in the lead table at the end of the round-robin phase of that championship, with Father Griffin 0-0 in third place. The same two teams have to meet again in the semi-final. The significance of yesterday's result is that Karnakashal now have home advantage for that match by virtue of the fact that they're second and the City side are third. Kararua await the winners of that match in this year's West Galway primary junior championship final. And over in the North East, Kilraren are through to the final. And Hedford will play Aitken Rye in the semi-final there, with Hedford having home advantage. Under-14 Group D2 Development League, Clomber were down to play Mike Cullen last Tuesday, but no result in for that match. But a big result in at Under-13 level from last Tuesday all the way from Pearce Stadium, Under-13 Division 3A championship final. Karnakashal and Pearce, 16 points, St. Gabriel's 2-2. And a fantastic county championship title win there for the lads from Karnakashal and Pearce, and congratulations to them. Tremendous work going on between those two clubs for a number of years now in Underage. Geofixtures for the week ahead, starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 17th. Under-14 D2 Development League, Clifton versus Mike Cullen at half six in Clifton. And then Under-14 B2 Development League, Karnakashal and Pearce in Uchtdorad, and that one is on at a quarter to seven in the Plantation. Under-14 E1 Development League, on Spijal and Rynwealia, and that one is going ahead at a quarter to seven in Spidal. Moving on into Wednesday, September 18th, Under-19C Championship West there, Uchtdorad against Karnakashal and Pearce, 7-30 throw in there in Uchtdorad. This coming Friday, we're back to the Under-14s again, D2 Development League, Barna versus Clifton at half six in Barna. B2 Development League there, Barna versus Karnakashal and Pearce also in Barna, so two matches going on there simultaneously at different Under-14 division levels in Barna on Friday night. And then Under-14 E1 Development League, Rynwealia out again for the second time in the week, and this time they're at home to Niamh, Anna and Letcher Moore at 6-30 in Letcher Frack. And then three Under-12 matches to be played on Sunday morning, Barna against Rynwealia at 10 in the morning, and then Letcher Moore and I on Cloughan, and Karnakashal and Pearce and I in Uchtdorad, and those matches are going ahead at 11 in Under-12 this coming Sunday. A big thanks to Pat here on Technical for helping me out, that's my lot for this week, and we'll talk to you in a week's time. G'evening listeners and welcome to Connemara Community Radio and Talksport on this Monday evening the 16th of September 2024. My name is Vivian Cutter and I'm due with you until 8 o'clock. In G8 Clifton defeated Nia Varon by a pint and in Soccer was Cush United drew 3-0 and Max Verstappen is still in the lead. But I think he's looking pretty. We will soon find out from Bernard how he feels about it. So I have online now Tony Kine. Welcome Tony. Thanks. And it was a tight game wasn't it overall? Yesterday was it? Saturday. Saturday. Yeah as I say a tight game. Just came through by a pint in the end. But Clifton had already qualified. Yeah we had already qualified so the game really didn't matter in the sense that we wanted to keep the win and run going. But the results either way wouldn't have affected us and it did matter to Aaron to win the game. Yeah so a tight game. We probably didn't play as well as we have in the last previous two games. The conditions were tough. The day wasn't great down there in the West. Yes. And we probably played better in the first half than we did in the second half. I can only imagine whether we had won 2-1 the ball in the first few minutes. We're leading 1-4 to 2 pints up half way through the first half. Then Aaron back into us and 1-5 to 4 pints at half time as well. 4 pints lead but the elements there probably won't have any of the elements in the second half. We really didn't kick off. We conceded a goal literally at the start of the second half. Oh dear. But then we're right back into the game and these goals have come in very by hand. So all we can say is 2 pints down going into the last few minutes. We'd have taken a draw if we'd have got it. 2 pints game. It's always a game. Just lead. In injury time Carragher fell in for a goal. So we had a couple of chances to attack the 30th minute. So 2-6 to 1-8. We snuck over there for the 1-pint win. A win is a win. It's nice to keep the record going isn't it? It's nice to keep the winning run going. That's the most important thing. It's an opportunity for the guys at the end time as well. That was good as well to get guys into the game. So at the end of the day we said if the performance we can certainly improve, I think we will improve. It's not good football from now on. We've got to prepare for the next day. We've got the job done. We need to move on to the next day. That's just the way it is. That won't be until October I'd imagine. That's in October. There won't be enough for a month unfortunately. That would have to last. It is. It's a two week gap in every round. The next round is the Premier League round. That doesn't involve us. The four winners that come through that and leave the four groups. We're one of the most out for a while. We won't know for two weeks who we're playing. Then we'll have another two weeks to prepare for the end. It's a good thing to go straight into the quarter-finals. But it's probably not the most satisfactory to get that gap in between. We'll try and pick up maybe a game or two in between. One challenge match in between. You'd need a challenge match really wouldn't you? There's nothing like game time really. That's what the pluses are. I don't think it came through okay on Saturday night. That's a good thing to do. Look at that. It's just a knuckle down. I'm trying to work hard for the next few weeks to prepare for the quarter-finals. Yes. And of course you wouldn't have an idea yet who you'll be playing. No. We want to have four group winners. Did they go into a different bowl? Yes. When it comes to a draw now it'll be the four group winners. The four winners will go into one. Yes. It'll be one side of the draw. And the four Premier League winners coming through will be on the other side of the draw. All right. So in a sense you won't be beating a top-flash team? No. We won't be beating a group winner. The only stipulation is a draw. We wouldn't be playing them again if we couldn't draw them again. So we'd have to be separated from them. That's the only thing. All right. You can't repeat. No, you can't. I don't know the pictures that I was booked for the quarter-finals. That's no hammer, either. No, that's no hammer either. Once is enough to beat. Once is enough to beat. Yes. I mentioned it a couple of weeks ago. The Premier League rounds are on Saturday and Sunday. So we'll know. Ah, yes. So they'll get a fortnight in, I suppose. They will, yes. So next Sunday you should know which draws. There'll be a draw made, I presume? There'll be a draw. That'll be the final week. The final week, yes. Yes, there should be draws in the final week. So we should know in two weeks' time who will go to the Premier League. Right, right. Yes, it'll be nice to have an idea who you're playing against. Yes. Ah, yes. We don't have to say. We just have to wait for the Premier League rounds to be played before we know who will go to the Premier League. Yes, yes. And in the senior, it seems to be the usual suspects coming through. It does, yes. As you said, the senior, yes. I think you're right. The other group winners there saw it too. I think Mike Cullen and... Cora Finchert. Cora Finchert. I think Anna Downs were the other group winners there. That's right, yes. So you'd expect to come through. Yes. Yes, I think nearly all the teams in the Premier League qualifiers are there as well. You'd expect as well. Yes. There's a bit of a gap, isn't there, between intermedias and senior? I think myself. The top teams, anyway. Either is. The top teams are tough. You know, if you've done more, our man of A&L came up last year in the intermediation there in relegation. But I don't know if this year they're going to have to try and get out of us, don't know. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough. It's tough.
