The speaker is celebrating their son's graduation from Georgia Tech with a degree in computer science. They mention the phrase "C1, do one, teach one," which is used in medical education to learn new skills. They relate this phrase to spiritual lives and encourage their son to look to Christ as a guide and to put his faith into action. They emphasize the importance of demonstrating faith through actions, striving for excellence, trusting in God's guidance, and sharing knowledge and faith with others. They express their pride in their son and wish him blessings and success in his future.
C1, do one, teach one. A spiritual guide for graduates, it is with immense joy and pride that I stand before you today to celebrate my son's graduation from Georgia Tech with a degree in computer science. He is our family's second software engineer. This is a momentous occasion, marking the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. As Nnamdi embarks on this new chapter in his life, I am reminded of the physician's mantra, C1, do one, teach one.
This phrase, C1, do one, teach one, is an essential part of medical education, allowing students to gain practical experience and gradually increase their level of responsibility. It involves a three-step process for learning a new skill or procedure. First, the student observes an experienced practitioner performing the skill. Then, under direct supervision, the student performs the skill themselves. Finally, after gaining proficiency, the student teaches the skill to another student or a more junior member of the medical team.
Just as this method is crucial in medical training, I believe it can also be applied to our spiritual lives. Jesus Christ, our ultimate example, demonstrated love, compassion, and service throughout his ministry. As he said, for I have given you an example that you should do as I have done to you. John 13, 15, NKJV. Nnamdi, I encourage you to look to Christ as your guide and to learn from his perfect example. As you begin your career as a software engineer, I challenge you to put your faith into action.
The Bible teaches us, if a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, depart in peace, be warmed and filled, but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2, 15 minutes, 17, NKJV. Use your education skills and talents to serve others, remembering that true faith is demonstrated through actions, not just words.
In your chosen field, always strive for excellence. The Bible advises, in whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. Colossians 3, 23, NKJV. As you navigate your career and face challenges, trust in God's guidance. Proverbs 3, five minutes, six, NKJV. Reminds us, trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him and he shall direct your path. Moreover, remember to share your knowledge and faith with others.
Jesus commanded, go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you. Matthew 8, 19 minus 20, NKJV. Be a positive influence and lead by example, for let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5, 16, NKJV. Inspire the next generation as, as second to NKJV, encourages and the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses.
Commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. As you go forward in faith and service, my prayer is that you will see one by looking to Christ's example. Do one by putting your faith into action and teach one by trusting in God's guidance and sharing his wisdom with others. By applying this principle to your life, you can make a lasting impact on the world around you, both professionally and spiritually. Nnamdi, your mother and I are incredibly proud of you and all that you have accomplished.
We have watched you grow into a remarkable young man and we know that God has great plans for your future. As you celebrate this milestone and embark on this new journey, may you always keep Christ at the center of your life, trust in his guidance, rely on his strength and let your light shine brightly for all to see. Congratulations Nnamdi on your graduation from Georgia Tech. May God bless you abundantly and guide you every step of the way.
