The host of "Drug Discussions" shares a personal story about Alex Rodriguez's steroid use, which made him question the morality of respected athletes. He discusses various topics related to drug policy in professional sports, including the legalization of marijuana, the use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), and the regulation of opioids. The host emphasizes the importance of stricter PED testing, allowing marijuana use for players, and tighter regulation of opioids to prevent harm. What is up and welcome to Drug Discussions. I am your host Chris Gattuso and I'd like to start this off with a little story from my childhood. I grew up a big Yankees fan. You know I looked up to players like Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, you know the whole crew. But I remember when I was around 10, 12 years old it came out to the public that Alex Rodriguez was a big user of steroids. And all this time when I was a kid I looked up to him thinking he was you know such a stand up dude, you know had great morals. But then I got ridiculed by all my friends who weren't Yankees fans saying that oh Yankees are cheaters and you know yadda yadda yadda. And I think that's what got me into this topic to begin with. You know that shame feeling. How could someone so respectable do something so immoral? You know so today we're going to cover a bunch of topics including drug policy in the professional sports world. Including the legalization of marijuana, the use of PEDs obviously as I just stated, and taking a look at opioids. I would consider myself somewhat of an expert on this topic. You know I've done a lot of research regarding statistics as far as deaths from opioid overdoses over the past couple of years in the United States. And these problems are pretty heavy. You know it's not something that many talk show hosts talk about. Usually they cover statistics of the games, how the players are feeling on and off the field or court. But people don't really talk about this unless someone comes up positive in their testing. But today I'd like to take a look at what goes on behind the scenes. Why players should be allowed to use marijuana. Why PED testing should be a little more stricter. I don't know how players keep getting away with stuff like this. And how opioids should be more commonly regulated by the MOB, NFL, NBA. It's a dangerous drug and players should not be getting their hands on it as easily as they are.
