Watercolor Hearts

Okay, so once you get your supplies set up, like your watercolor paper and your watercolors, a cup of water and a paintbrush, I like the pointier paintbrushes, I find it gives you more control. You can then get some painter's tape, the blue or the green doesn't matter, and start cutting out your shapes, whatever you desire. I cut out some vertical chunks out of the center of the heart so that I can write the word love through the middle. You can cut them, make them horizontal, you can cut out different shapes, really just be creative, whatever you want to do. Next, pick your color, I chose two different colors that kind of complement each other for each side of the heart, and then I started a little darker edge on the outside and then blended with water going inside. And just see how it looks, like see what you like, if you want to make it a little darker or shade it in different areas, you totally can. And then once you're done, you pull off the painter's tape, and then you can start writing with a ballpoint pen, I had a calligraphy pen, so I practiced on a sketch pad on the side where I just practiced the writing because I really don't have good handwriting, but I just tried to make it look as fancy as I could. And then you can outline the heart, it doesn't have to be perfect, it actually looks better and it looks handmade if the black ink is a little off from the watercolor. So, there you go, that's the finished product. It looks like you have your own signature card and all it took was just your time, really. And then the other thing I did was when I had purchased some dollar store frames, I ended up tracing the frame, the cutout, and then I cut out whichever area I desired, and I ended up framing it, I thought that looked super cute, so you can also make some framed art out of the watercolor as well. Really have fun with it, it's relaxing to do, and you really can't mess this up. Okay, so for my next design, I chose a more simple heart design where I did two different colors, but I just shaded the one side of the heart, just because the technique when I apply the frame, it's going to be a little more detailed, so I wanted to keep the background simple. So, I used this mesh gutter guard that I had in the garage. I checked on Amazon and they also have these mesh canvases that are super cheap that you can get, but really you can use chicken wire, you can use whatever you have around the house if you want this type of look. So I started with the Mondo Llama, the metallic paint, and I just dabbed it with a sponge, and then I applied it to the mesh guard, and I just lightly applied it just so it wasn't dripping through, so I would get enough of that metallic on the wire. And then I just pressed it down on the background to get some little detail of dots, and then I thought the frame was a little bland, like just being straight black, so I added that same metallic edging to the frame as well, and I just applied it with the sponge technique. And then there it is. Now for my last design, now for my last design, I had these calligraphy stickers. You can use stickers, you can use stamps, whatever you want. I kind of used it as an emblem in the middle, and then I started painting my watercolor design around it. For these hearts I did smaller hearts, just very plain and simple because I had that sticker in the middle. But really just have fun with it, do whatever you think would look nice, it's really up to you on your taste and preference. And then I took my calligraphy pen and I went over all the hearts with an outline, but I did a double outline with this so that it gave it a little more dimension. And then I added some watercolor on top of the emblem. It didn't really stick that well, so that part you kind of just have to play around with what you have and if it's working. And that's it!
