This week we have NFL, MLB, UFC and Madden Ratings for you.
In this episode of the Broken Clipboard, Nolan Ashby and his co-host discuss Madden ratings and their opinions on overrated and underrated players. They express frustration with the game's ratings, especially for players like Aaron Donald and Dak Prescott. They also mention their favorite underrated players, including Troy Anderson, Trey Hendrickson, and Deebo Samuel. They criticize Madden for not accurately representing the true potential of players and call for more authentic ratings. They also discuss the large gap in ratings between top kickers like Justin Tucker and Evan McPherson. Welcome back everybody to the Broken Clipboard with Nolan Ashby. This is episode four. We're going to get into some pretty fun topics about the NFL, the UFC, and Major League Baseball. Let's hit it. I think we're going to start off with Madden ratings. Ashby, are you going to buy the game? You know, seeing as I have just about every other Madden game probably, am I upset with the game currently? You bet your ass I am. It's done me dirty and the gameplay isn't fun. It's done you dirty? Oh man, it's done you more than dirty. Let's not talk about that. Okay, let's not talk about that. So, I'm going to buy the game. I'm actually really interested to see what, you know, it's going to make or break here, as EA said, with Madden 24. I think it's going to be interesting what they're doing with franchise mode. I'm really interested in the restructuring contracts part of franchise mode. I think that that's pretty cool. I can't tell you how many times I wish, like, I'm playing franchise mode and I'm like, man, I just want to restructure this contract so I can get, you know, sign these players. I love everybody that I play with in Madden, like, in my franchise. If I'm the Bengals, I want to sign everybody that's on the Bengals now and keep them there forever because I love my teams. But, so yeah, I'll probably buy it. I'm excited to see what they do with Ultimate Team. I was a pretty crazed Ultimate Team player this past year, so I'm excited to see that continue to get my team to a 99 overall. I fell short on this year's edition, so. We have a little time left. Not much, but a little bit of time left. Did you see the new player they dropped? It's called, like, Mr. Ghost or something like that. It's literally like a ghost. It's the funniest player. Like, just look it up. Look it up when you get time. It's funny. He's a 99 overall quarterback. I'm like, I have no idea how that even works with the animation and all that because it's not even a real player. Besides the point. So we were kind of talking about Madden Radiance now, but, like, Ashby, who's your most overrated player? Overrated? Going through the list. You know, it's kind of hard. This season, it's kind of hard to have some overrated guys. If anything, I have more underrated guys, and I think you can agree with that. Oh, I totally 100% agree. The Madden ratings and whoever does them, why don't you bend the players over a little bit more and keep fucking them over, you know? I think it's BS what you guys are doing over there. Some of these guys, I mean, are elite guys, and you're not rating them correctly. Or go back and do what you did in the early 2000s, and you didn't have the Madden ratings, and you just did individual stats for everybody and then didn't even give them an overall. Yeah, I guess. I mean, like you said, I'm going to agree with you that there's way more underrated players, and a lot more players I think are probably right about where they're rated. Maybe a few points differential here and there, but I mean, not to throw shade, I think the one overrated player I might have, and for everyone who's listening, I'm not calling him an overrated player in general. I'm just saying what happened last season into this season, or coming into this season, where his rating is, I feel like it should be maybe a point or two lower. But there's no argument about his greatness, and that's Aaron Donald. Like, he was injured half the season last year. I'm not saying he's overrated, because he's one of the best defensive players ever in football. But, I mean, he was injured most of last season. Does he deserve a 99? I don't know. I think he's a 98, 97 kind of player coming off the injury. But, I mean, he very well could be by week 2, 99 overall. So, I think that it's not really an overrated player, but it's kind of as close as I'm going to get to an overrated player in this year's men rating so far. Yeah, I mean, I'm going to agree with you. If I had to pick an overrated player, it'd be him. And it's purely based off of how much he played last season due to his injury. But, I mean, Madden themselves, they go throughout the season, and they make rating adjustments. So, what's to say, you know, Aaron Donald, preseason, week 1, week 2, week 3, has to go back out and prove himself. Say, hey, the injury was a setback last year, but doesn't affect me this year. And I agree with you, you know, week 2, week 3, we could see him at 99 again. But, just to give him the 99 this year, I mean, I get it. I do get it. Defensively, we kind of talked about it. Like, who's your MVP, and who would it be on the defensive side of the ball? And the only person that came up was Aaron Donald. I mean, I get it. But, I don't know, 99's pretty generous. Yeah, I totally agree with that. The other one, maybe, is Dak Prescott. We'll get into that a little bit later. 87, I don't know. I mean, we're going to talk a little bit about our top quarterbacks in the league here in a little bit. So, I'm going to save my slander for then. But, yeah, Dak, I don't know. 87 is kind of, eh, I don't know. So, we're going to go into our underrated players, because I know that we both have a few. And I think it would be best to talk about them. I think that we both are going to agree on this one, that Troy Anderson should be a 99 overall. I love you, Troy. Montana guys, your wife. No, in all reality, he should be higher. He's a 66. Right now, I think he should be at least a 70, 71, 72-ish player. There's a few linebackers that are ahead of him that I think are pretty similar. That he's rated 12 points lower than, or even 10 points lower than. I think he should be higher. Another one that I have some serious beef with is, I think Trey Hendrickson at 87 is a horrible rating. I'm upset about it. I am pissed. Because in the last, I want to say three or four years, Trey Hendrickson is fourth in the league in sacks. Yeah. And he's 87 overall. Like, I don't get it. I just don't get it. He is a dominant pass rusher. He doesn't look it. He's not physically bigger than anyone. He's not entirely faster, but he's just a technician. And he's insanely good. I think that he should be at least a 90. Maybe even a 91. I don't know if I'd say 92. I think he's worthy of a 90 overall. And then my other one that I have is, I think that Debo Samuel should be a little bit higher. He's at 89. But, like, I don't know. He does so much for the 49ers. We've praised him as one of the best utility players in the league for the last three years. Last couple years. Why do we give him an 89? Like, I don't get it. Like, I think he's one of the best utility players in the league. Like, if you think utility players, like, I know you and me, Ashby, have had this conversation of just best utility players in the league. And I know we have some differences in opinion. We're not going to get into that right now. But... That was a long discussion. Very, very long. Like, a 30-minute conversation just off that. But I think he should definitely be higher. I don't know where you'd actually rate him higher than an 89. But I think that he should be higher than an 89. It's just that, like, the test, like, the smell test. Like, it smells like sugar. But you're being told it's like two cents. Like, I don't know. I just... I don't know. I think it's fishy that they're doing that. And then, obviously, just in general, the Bengals fan. I think that they screwed over a lot of the Bengals players in general with ratings. I think guys like Logan Wilson. Joe Mixon is probably about where he's at. But, you know, Key Higgins, 87, again, probably should be higher. Jamar Chase is a 94, maybe higher. I think Joe Burrow might be properly rated at 95, maybe 96. But, like, I don't know. I have some beef with my Bengals ratings here. Well, and kind of like I was saying earlier, they screwed over so many players. And it was, I mean, let's just sit and think of there's guys that we see on the list, like the 99 club. You know, you have your Patrick Mahomes. You got your Justin Jefferson. You got your Travis Kelce. You got players like that, you know, that are really good. But to have guys like, I mean, on my list, Deebo Samuel. I know you touched on him. I think Jalen Waddle at an 88. I think he's at least 90 overall in my eyes. He's pretty damn good. Matt Stafford, 75 overall. I mean, yes, he was hurt last year. I get that. But if you're going to put Aaron Donald at 99 overall and he was also injured, then you're talking about a guy that was in the 80s last year. Then now all of a sudden he's down to 75. Madden. Let's do some looking into this here. You guys are definitely playing favoritism and you're not playing to the true potential. I mean, if we want the most authentic game out there, you got to start actually going out and rating players based on how they play. I think that's my biggest thing. And here's another thing. I want to show some love to the kickers and the punters out there. I mean, for real. We just talked about my bangle, so you're going to get into that one. The gap between Justin Tucker and Evan McPherson, who I think is only in all reality. I think the top three kickers in the NFL are Justin Tucker, Daniel Carlson, and then Evan McPherson. And then Yeogwon Koo is also on that list in the top five. That gap between those guys is 21 points. Daniel Carlson. Oh, my gosh. I'm just getting frustrated thinking about it. What was he, 79? McPherson was 79. Evan McPherson was 79 and Justin Tucker was 91. Yeah. In the grand scheme of things, especially when it comes to kickers, that gap is a lot closer than you'd think. Oh, 100%. I totally agree. Yes, it's a video game. Most people aren't probably kicking the ball very often. I don't know. I kicked 67-yard field goals with Evan McPherson in Ultimate Team. I also had Justin Tucker. They both hit from 67, just so you know. I'll know that you want to kick her and you're still playing the old Ultimate Team. I mean, like I was saying, Madden needs to really go out and they need to make sure that they're being authentic. I don't believe that it's authentic. I think they're just trying to throw numbers at us and say, oh, no, these are the right numbers for the type of players. When it's probably some dude in an office being like, well, on paper, this guy had this many catches and it wasn't as much as that guy. So, oh, well, he's getting a worse rating. I mean, if you really want to go by statistics and all that, why isn't Andy Dalton higher? Technically, if you look at PFS, their stats, I want to say it was the sixth best passing quarterback in the league. Why isn't his overall higher? I don't even know what his overall is. You can probably look it up. Andy Dalton is the seventh best quarterback by PFS standards. Maybe that just shows bad on PFS. I don't know. I believe in PFS. But like, OK, is Andy Dalton not worth a 70 overall? I mean, that's a pretty good segue into kind of our next topic, sticking with quarterbacks. But I think if we had a last say, Madden rankings have got to be better. You get the Vanderbilt. You get the Purdue from last week, the get better slap, you know. Oh, get better. Just get better, please. But like Ashby was saying, we're going to get into our next topic, and that's going to be quarterback rankings. They were voted on by the GMs and coaches. And we're going to read off. I'm going to read off who the top ten were. And then me and Ashby are going to decide who our top tens are. And we'll see how different they are. So as voted on, Mahomes was one. Perot was two. Allen was three. Rodgers was four. Herbert was five. Hurst was six. Lamar was seven. Trevor Lawrence was eight. Dak was nine. Stafford was ten. Ashby, do you want to go first or do you want me to go first? Well, I'll also touch on the top ten quarterbacks in Madden are Mahomes, Perot, Allen, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott, Justin Herbert, Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins, and then Tua. And if I had to do my personal list, Mahomes, Perot, Allen, Rodgers, Hurts, and Herbert, those I agree with. Lamar at seven, I could be persuaded at seven. I think my big thing there is his injury troubles. But eight, nine, ten, this is where I start to waver a little bit because I think we do have to look at a couple other guys, at least one in my eyes, and put him into play. Kirk Cousins is, maybe I'm biased because I'm a Vikings fan, but Kirk Cousins is really consistent in the numbers that he puts up every year. And every year, statistically, he is a top ten quarterback. So, I think, you know, I think you have to put him on that list. Now, do you put him higher than Dak? Do you put him higher than Trevor Lawrence? Do you put him higher than Matthew Stafford? The way that I see it shaking up is I would have Cousins at eight, then Dak, and I think Matthew Stafford at ten. And I don't think Trevor Lawrence is on this list. I think Trevor Lawrence can be good. I think he's number 11 in the league, though. I don't think he makes the top ten. We're going to differ a little bit on this. So, I think that one, two, and three are pretty accurate, Mahomes, Berto, and Allen. I think those are my top three, and I like them in that order. At number four, I just got done saying in the Madden ratings about how Aaron Donald, yeah, I mean, he's a 99 overall talent. But, like, he didn't play a lot of last season because he was hurt. There was a lot of games last season Aaron Rodgers didn't play because he was hurt. So, I can't right now give Aaron Rodgers four. I think that at the end of the season he might be a four, or five, or six. He's going to be in the top ten. I think regardless of where you put him, he's in the top ten. I think four is a little high for me. Honestly, I would, quarterback-wise, I guess what I'm just looking at is overall winners, stats, and what they've accomplished. I also think Herbert isn't number five. Herbert hasn't won a playoff game. Everybody raves about Herbert's talent. He hasn't won a playoff game. He blew up a 28-point lead to Trevor Lord from the Jaguars in the first round in the wild card. Like, he hasn't won a playoff game. He's been to the playoff once, and he lost in a blew-up playoff game. I just don't... He has all the talent in the world. He has all the raw potential. I love Herbert because he played for Oregon, but I don't think he's number five on the list. So, with that being said, I think I would put... Right now, I think that I would switch Hertz and Lamar. I think I would put Hertz up at number four. I would also put... I think you could probably put Rodgers at... I put Lamar at seven. He was healthy last year. They were really good. So, I'm going to put him ahead of Rodgers at... You know what? I changed my mind. I talked myself into it. I'm going to go Hertz, Rodgers at four and five. I'm going to go... I'm going to go Lawrence at seven. I'm then going to go... Lamar at eight. And I'm going to go Herbert at nine. And then I think Kirk Cousins is better than Dak Prescott and Matthew Stafford. Dak Prescott is literally the... If you look at the... My issue with Dak Prescott is we talk about in the NBA how they're super teams. They're absolutely loaded, but they have one thing that goes wrong, and they don't win. So, the Suns this past year, they only played eight games together. CP3, Devin Booker, and Chris Paul. CP3, KD, and Devin Booker. They only played eight games together, and they didn't do well in the playoffs. Well, that's expected because they only played eight games together, which is a totally different topic, because they shouldn't have blown that up. There's always something that goes wrong. Some of them were hurt or whatever. Dak is the literal reason why Dallas will win or they will lose. If they lose, it's because Dak Prescott literally cannot... He turns the ball over. He turns the ball over a lot. I think he was either second or he was close to the lead in interceptions last year. I just don't see it. I think that they have too much talent on the Cowboys that they're wasting away because Dak Prescott cannot lead them to the promised land. And they have a shitty-ass coach in Mike McCarthy. I'm not high on Dak. I think that he's not as good as their cousins. And honestly, I don't know if I'd put Dak at 12. I think Dak's at 12. No, I think he's at 13, because I think Stafford's at 12. I think 11 is Jared Goff. I don't think that people give Jared Goff enough credit. Other than a couple dudes on that Lions team... Honestly, you probably could name more because you're an SC North guy. If you were to take all the Lions players and rank them in the hierarchy of the NFL... I mean, each position group that they have, they don't have the elite guy in each of those. St. Brown's their best receiver. St. Brown might be a top 10, 15 receiver. There's definitely receiver groups that are also around them that are better. Now, the Lions did get better this offseason. Don't get me wrong. I mean, then you think Panay Sewell's pretty good offensive lineman, but I couldn't name you another offensive lineman on the Lions. I mean, they had Aiden Hutchinson on defense. I think we don't give the Lions enough credit for what they accomplished last season. You don't really think about... They really overachieved last year. I think Jared Goff was a big reason for that. He's been to a Super Bowl, and I honestly think that he's just as good as any of the other quarterbacks on this list outside of Mahomes, Burrow, and Allen. I've got a hot take for you. I know you and I, we're kind of big on hot takes here. But, I think a good team correlation, and this is just my opinion. Anybody else can tell me I'm wrong or whatever. I don't care. I think a good correlation of how the Lions are going to be and kind of looked at the last couple years. I think the Lions kind of remind me of the Titans. They don't have a lot of big name guys. They have a couple guys up there that are big names. But, they have a lot of guys that are just absolute grinders. It doesn't matter if it's Week 1, Week 17, Week 18. It doesn't matter. Those guys are going to play all 60 minutes, and they're going to be gunning at your throat. They're there to tear your head off, and they're going to make your life a living hell. I mean, that's also a reflection of their head coach, Dan Campbell. Which, I like Dan Campbell, and I've said it. As a Vikings fan, normally you don't look at your individual opponents and be like, I wish them the best. But, I honestly do wish Dan Campbell and the Lions the best. I think, you know, it's weird for me to say it, because it is a rivalry, and you want to be the team that comes out on top in the North. But, Dan Campbell's built a hell of a team. And, I mean, I do like the Lions. I think they're a tough, gritty team. Now, I wish that they'd stay a wild card team, because I want the Vikings to win the North every year. But, I do want to see them in the wild card. I do want to see them in the playoffs, and I think that they have the team that can definitely be there come playoffs. Yeah, no, I agree. The one thing with the Lions that's really cool, like, it's just kind of a cool case study of, like, we talk about, like, there are certain coaches that, I mean, players would run through brick walls for, and actually, that elevates them to their best potential. And, like, I mean, you talk about Mike Tomlin in that press. You talk about Bill Belichick, you know, taking dudes from, like, South Mississippi Tech, you know, junior college, and turning them into really good receivers, which I have no idea how he does it, but he does it. But, like, I don't know. I think we should, we need to put a little bit more respect on Dan Campbell's, like, name. Because, like, if I'm a player for Dan Campbell, like, you have a ton of respect. Because that man goes full force, energy, you know, he doesn't lack any passion for the game of football. And when, you know, we talk about this in just business, because I got a business degree, the best way to establish a culture is for the people at the top to believe what, you know, believe in the values and the ethics and the code of ethics and all that that the organization sets forward and essentially embody it. And Dan Campbell does a great job with that. And that's why I think that Jared Goff has played, you know, his best football since that year they went to the Super Bowl when he had Sean McVay as his head coach. I mean, why you see Jamal Williams thriving and why you see, you know, Amon St. Brown thriving. I mean, you look at these guys and they're insane, insanely good. Yeah, a hundred percent. And I don't know about you on my take, but I do see the Lions and the Titans kind of being on the same level just as far as pure grit. And being a team that's going to go and show out for four quarters, despite their record. Again, yeah, I mean, I agree. I mean, I see it now that I was just thinking about that, as you said, after I just went on my diatribe about Dan Campbell and Mike Vrabel is pretty similar too. So, I mean, that's kind of our top tens. I know we're probably flawed individuals and we have our views that people don't agree with. That's kind of how we see the realm of quarterbacks. But we're kind of going to go into a switch position groups in the NFL a little bit. And we're going to go talk about running backs because, you know, Saquon Barkley, he sold out on his fellow running backs. Like they had a Zoom meeting or they had a meeting, a team's meeting, whatever it was. They had a meeting and this whole thing started with Barkley not getting his money, Josh Jacobs not getting his money. Tony Poehler not getting his money. Austin Eckler not getting his money. Kareem Hunt's still on the board. Dalvin Cook's still on the board. Zekiel Elliott's still on the board. Leonard Furnett's still on the board. I mean, there's still a ton of really good running backs that need to get paid. But yet, Saquon Barkley caved. I mean, the franchise tag was $10.5 million, something like that. He took $11 million. That's like $500,000 more. I get it. That's a lot of money for just a normal human being. But I mean, if you really believe that you are worth the money, why do you cave it $500,000 more? I don't get it. Saquon is a great talent and I'm glad that he was able to work and deal out with the Giants for another season. But the problem here now is that what's going to happen is that the Giants are going to franchise AIM again next season. I mean, I'm calling it now and I think that there's 100% truth to that. I would agree. I mean, you know, from the way that I've interpreted everything about the running backs and everything like that, is a lot of them want to go out and they want to make more and they want to be like, hey, you guys have to start paying us for what we actually do for your team or our team. I know sports is all about we as a team and how we win. You know, it's a we mentality, but I do think a little bit running backs have been overlooked. And there's a few guys out there that are starting to have the me mentality, not we. And I think that mentality to get paid for your efforts and for what you are doing and how hard you work on a day to day basis is worth it. But I think selling out kind of what like Saquon did is, I mean, I guess we can say we have seen the worst in holding out. Like look at Le'Veon Bell when he held out. I mean, he didn't make, I don't think he really made the best decision, but to only make, like you said, 500,000 more on a team that's going to probably give you the rock, I don't know, 45, if not half percent of the game, 50%. I mean, give or take around there because, I mean, their quarterback is Daniel Jones. I don't know how he'll do this season. He's kind of mid in my eyes, but he only takes 11 million, only 500,000 more than what he was going to be franchised. And then he made a whole big deal. And then he basically just showed everybody else that he's not in it for the running backs. He's not in it for the team. He was just trying to be a little selfish. And now that's putting guys like Dalvin Cook, Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard, Josh Jacobs, all these other guys that are like, hey, we want larger deals because we want to be a part of an organization that's going to throw us in there and we're going to prove that we are the workhorses and we are the ones that we can have you put the team on our back and go win us games. And Taequann's like, eh, it is what it is. I guess the question that's important to this is, where do you, if you were, like, we just did the top 10 quarterbacks, where would you place Barkley in running backs? I mean, I guess that's important because wherever you would rate him, if you rate him number one, like he's the number one running back in the league, I don't know, I'm just saying this hypothetically, if he's the number one running back in the league, like, okay, the number one running back in the league is taking $11 million a year. Okay, why am I going to pay Galvin Cook more than $11? Or why am I going to pay Zeke more than $11? Or why am I going to pay Jonathan Taylor more than $11? Or Tony Pollard? Or yada, yada, yada. I mean, I guess that, what do you think, where do you think Barkley stands on that? And who do you think number one is? I mean, I know we've hit the running back situation multiple weeks now. But, they are, it's an expendable position, and it's always changing. And especially as teams start moving into this two running back world, and especially as teams start moving into this two running back look, I mean, there was some in the past, and there was more like, a lot more teams than you'd think. I'm sorry, I live in a world where we go empty every single play. We're not talking about your Madden team here, we're talking about, No, I'm talking about the Bagels. Anyway, it's always changing. So, in my eyes, if you would have asked me this question three, four years ago, I would have been like, yeah, Saquon's right there up top. I had him in my fantasy league for quite a few years, this is my top guy. He was coming off the board first. That's for you. Huh? That's for you. Oh yeah, fantastic. I got him every year that he got hurt. Anyway, keeping that in mind too, I mean, Saquon in my eyes, is he a top five running back? Yes. But he's probably a four or a five at this rate. So, who's your number one then? I'm going to put you on the spot. Probably Chubb. You know what? I agree with that one. I just say that because, you know, he has nothing. He's totally forgettable. He's forgettable, but he keeps his mouth shut. He puts his nose to the grindstone week in and week out. As we know in Madden, he's a fucking hard man to bring down, right Ashby? Yeah. And he's a hard man to take down in real life. And if it's not Chubb, it's Derrick Henry, but that's just because he's a... I mean, he's a... I don't even know how to explain it. He's one heck of a man that it takes four grown men to take down instead of one or two. You know, Derrick Henry's pretty insane. But if I had to pick my number one right now, today, it'd be Chubb. A hundred percent. So, if that's the case, Nick Chubb is making $12.2 million a year. So, I mean, if you're Saquon, why are you taking $11 million? Why are you taking $11 million? See, in my eyes, as an outsider looking in, even the 10-5 for a player that has had, what, maybe one full season in the last five years? He's been hurt, like, most of his career. Talking about a guy that's got knee problems and hamstring problems? You know, any other position that you don't perform and you don't play for five years? Or maybe a season in five years? I mean, you're not. In my eyes, you're not gonna get the 12-2. And to be franchise tag at 10-5, you should take that money. Yeah, I mean, the franchise tag's going down every year. I mean, it's just kind of a reflection of how offenses are moving nowadays. But, yeah. So, I guess I don't want to entirely beat the running back situation to death, but there's a thing going on with Jonathan Taylor. I don't know if you've seen it. You probably have. It's been all over the news. Yeah, he wants out, and the Colts said no. The Colts said no. He came back and said, well, I want to trade. The Colts said, well, fuck you. You reported back pain in your pre-camp physical, and now we're going to put you on the non-football injury list, and you don't get any money. So, essentially... I mean, that's another top-10 guy that... I mean, in my eyes, he's a top-10 guy as well. Yeah, I mean, he's a pretty young guy still, too. I think this is maybe his third year in the league, maybe. Third or fourth, maybe. But, I don't know. I think that the whole thing with... The whole situation is kind of crazy, because, like... He's probably... They don't want him... I don't... I'm still kind of lost for words on this one, because, like... It's such a weird situation, and then it gets, like, ten times more amplified, because Zach Moss goes and breaks his arm. See? And so now they're down to potentially their third year. Now they're down to potentially their third back. I mean... We're going to talk about... And we're going to talk about who the next domino to fall in the running back market is here in a second. But, I mean... You've got to be thinking, if they're down to their third back, they're going to go try and find someone new. See, and here's another thing that I kind of want to throw out there with the Colts. You really look at it, and until they started drafting and went out and got Anthony Richardson, and, I mean, they traded away Stephon Gilmore, they're real light on that team. Like, the one thing that draws your attention, in my eyes, was Jonathan Taylor. Like, you're like, okay, the Colts. Ooh, they've still got Jonathan Taylor. He's a pretty good running back. And now, he's like, dude, I want out. Like, this sucks. And they're like, you know what? You got a little back pain. Said that in your preseason. You know what? Nah. You know what? You don't want to be here. We don't even want you on the field. Here's the physically unable to perform due to non-contact injury. Non-football injury. Dude, it's whatever. And now I'm looking at the Colts, and I'm like, okay, the thing that draws my attention is Anthony Richardson. And he's a rookie. And who knows how rookies pan out anymore? I mean... Well, that's another thing, too, is you missed today's practice because of a nasal procedure. So, I mean... But, that's also the other thing, too, is like, how bad are these Colts going to be? Are they going to, like, try and go get fucking, like, Caleb Williams in the draft next year? Like, if Anthony Richardson doesn't do good next year, or this season, do they replace him after one year and give him the Josh Rosen treatment? Honestly, I think when we start talking about the Colts, we need to start talking about all of our other teams when we do our NFL outlook. And... Sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself. We're going to go ahead and I think we move on to the... our next domino in the running back market. And... keep that Colts energy for our upcoming week's podcast so that we can keep things moving tonight. Yeah, sorry. But, yeah, totally. So, next domino to fall, Dovin Cook or Ezekiel Elliott? Who do you think you're taking next? Or option three, neither. Or option three. That's fair. I mean... Go ahead. I got a couple things, but you can go ahead. So, I mean, honestly, we've heard the rumors Dovin Cook potentially to the Jets. And there's always been Dovin Cook to the Dolphins kind of stuff. I don't know if... I'm not going to lie, if Dovin Cook is, I think that he's going to go to New York. But that's kind of my opinion on it. Or, and then today, Zeke is taking his first free agent visit to New England, which will be interesting. And, obviously, we just said how the Colts might be in the market, too, for both these guys. There's also option three, which, you know, there's still Kareem Hunt, Leonard Fournette, and a bunch of those kind of guys still left on the market, too. So, I mean, there's not... Dovin Cook is by far the best that's left. And if you're any team that needs a running back, you probably should go after Dovin Cook. But there's still some other options, and I think that Dovin Cook probably will fall first, before Zeke will. I would agree. The way things look, I don't know, maybe it's social media, maybe it's just people and social media. It kind of looks like Dovin Cook is leaning to the Jets, and depending on how the meeting with the Patriots goes, Zeke to the Patriots. But then I don't see any other big moves until probably season's starting. But in order for those to fall, it will be probably Dovin Cook first. I know... I know why everybody still keeps talking about Dovin Cook going to Miami, and that's the return home for Dovin. He's a Florida kid, and I know a lot of people want to see him go back. I mean, the Dolphins really over the last couple years made a big turnaround. And I mean, I like Mike McDaniels. I think he's a good coach. I think he's a funny guy, too. Speaking of that, did you see what he... I guess we'll talk about it later. Did you see what he said about Eli Apple? Yeah, the fruit? Oh wait, the quarterback? Eli Apple, yeah. Yeah, totally. I love Mike McDaniels. Continue, sorry. But as far as everything's concerned there, I do see Dovin going to the Jets. And then Zeke... I mean, the Patriots do need... I don't know. I think they need a bigger name running back. I couldn't even tell you who they're... Huh? That's who their running back is now? I couldn't have told you that. Is that what you told me? He was a rookie last year. He was pretty decent. I mean... But, I don't know. Maybe you're talking about your world where you go to two backs. Not your empty world like I think. But no, I agree with you, though. Maybe my whole vision for that has been because of the Vikings where it was Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson and then Adrian Peterson and Dovin Cook and then Dovin Cook and Alexander Madison and now it's Alexander Madison and then it's going to be a toss-up between Kenny Wongu and Tyson Chandler or we just got a kid out of UAB. It can be any one of those guys because they're all... Huh? You forgot one. Fred Taylor. Okay. Well, all I'm saying is maybe that's why I think of two running backs anymore and you can't tell me that you know the Cowboys weren't using two running backs because they were with Zeke and Pollard. Ezekiel and Tony Pollard that was a two running back system. Yeah, I mean you're right on on the two back system. Some teams go about it different ways but most teams do it just because like you know, Zeke's your bigger back Tony Pollard's your kind of your elusive speed back your change of pace kind of back. Most teams do that. The Bengals did it with Joe Mixon and Samad JP, right? The Saints did it with Kamara and Latavius Murray when both those guys were there. I mean, Kamara's still there but who knows what his situation is. I mean, it sounds like his situation is pretty rocky too. Yeah, that's that's a thing though like I give you shit about your two back system shit but I'm totally joking. Well, I get it but I mean, it is what it is I mean, it is what it is. Ultimately, you know Davencook, Zeke anybody else Fournette, whoever you gotta have those guys are probably gonna go in and be worked into a system with another guy that may already have been there and may have already been looked at as their number one guy and there could be a situation I'm not saying this will happen or anything like that because like you said our observations we're humans it could be completely flawed but I see I can see a future where Davencook and Zeke don't come off the board until you know regular season or even up to and not limited to up to the deadline. Yeah, I agree. I think that I think that they'll be I think regardless of what happens I think that my personal opinion is I think that these guys are set where they're at and if someone goes down in training camp or you know someone is just not performing and they don't like their other options then they might go out and get one of these guys for a big playoff push or something like that so I think that the more likely it is that they're going to stay on the board. And just thinking about this because I read this a couple days ago on social media so I don't know if it's true or not but it could be fake news but there has been a rumor circulating that Davencook has considered going back to the Vikings for a lesser contract. And I don't know that that's true I don't think it's true but if that's something that happens that could be a consideration too but I don't see that being a factor until like I said later closer to the deadline. I think that's him being like hey I still want to play type of deal and not like hey let's find my destination you know and that'll be like a one year type of deal like it'll be this if he resigns or whatever next year he's definitely gone. Like I don't see him making a big deal. If he makes a big deal somewhere I bet you it's either a New York or a Miami or a New England it could be they could both Zeke and Davencook could be talking to the Patriots who knows. I'm not the manager I don't know. Yeah. Hey for anyone who's listening we don't know. We're just giving our insights. We're two we're just two guys from Montana talking sports so what the hell do we know. So kind of say you know kind of speaking of the Jets and Davencook we're going to transition to the Jets. They've been in the news a little bit with kind of in association with the Denver Broncos because of what Sean Payton said and if you haven't heard essentially I'm going to tell you as someone who's you know been around a lot of coaching meetings and stuff like that at the end of the day there's an unwritten rule from in college high school NFL. I mean any kind of sports that you play a month coaches that you don't talk about the dude that was there previous he's not in the building anymore so you move on. What Sean Payton said was out of line about Nathaniel Hackett and his association with the previous year with the Broncos there was no need to say it he broke the code. Now I would be interested to know why he did that. Sean Payton's been in the business for a while so it's an interesting thing like I want to know him but I mean it's kind of like he broke the code I'm kind of glad how Aaron Rogers I'm excited for how Aaron Rogers responded to that as well today saying that that's my guy so keep you know you put some keep my coordinator off or out your mouth named out your mouth. Give him the Will Smith treatment right there. Yeah I mean that's literally what he said in the press conference. But I'm interested to see what Aaron Rogers has to say about that. I think Sean Payton is trying to lessen the blow a little bit because I think he realizes that this Broncos team is not the team that he thought he was getting. And I will be interested in week five when the Broncos play the Jets because I think that I think the Jets are going to absolutely smack them around. So that's kind of what I have to say on the Broncos. If you have anything you want to say on that. Yeah. I know Coach Saleh had something to say about it too. He was like you know if your competition is hating that means you must be doing something right. I like that. I like that. Keep that mentality the way it is. And ultimately I agree. Sean Payton should have said what he said about Nathaniel Hackett. And you know he can go ahead and talk about the Jets all he wants. But if I'm if I'm Saleh or I'm any other coach and I hear somebody talking like that. I'll let that fuel me. And if I see you on my schedule like the Jets, Broncos week five. Right. That was said week five. I'll let that fuel me. And if I see you on my schedule like the Jets, Broncos week five. Yep. Yep. Week five. Man if that doesn't light a fire under your ass I don't know what does. That's one of those games that you see on the calendar and you strap up that day. You go out first play on the line of scrimmage. If you're not popping some dude in the mouth and you're washing that taste out of your mouth and showing them what you got. You got to go out and you got to let that anger you. Make you get absolutely pissed off. And go use that and destroy them week five. So your little speech there made me totally think of the scene when the in the longest yard when the mean machine is playing the guards. And the very first like couple of minutes later, they're burning their skin and punching them with brass knuckles and just absolutely just trying to hurt these dudes like breaking arms and shit like that. That's literally how it's going to be the first play. They're going to be like, okay, let's play some football now. We've had our fun. Let's get back to business. And that is what it popped into my mind. So kind of we're going to stay on the Broncos a little bit here too. And we're going to move to something that's kind of going on with the Broncos. One of the Broncos defense linemen. And kind of with the whole state of college football in Iowa, which is this gambling situation. I have no idea how to say the linemen's name. I'm going to try. I'm going to probably butcher it. It's Yama who I don't even know how to say it. You want to try and say it? Yeah, I think it's Ayoma Yuwaza Werke. Yeah. So he was, he's facing up to two years in prison because of his, he was in prison in 32 instances throughout college and his rookie year last year with the Broncos. And as we all know and have seen in previous years, you can be suspended for a lot less when it comes to gambling. A.K.A. Calvin Ridley being suspended for $1,000 when he wasn't even on really a part of the Falcons. He got suspended from the NFL for a while. But, I mean, you're facing two years in prison for betting on 32 games that you were a part of. Like, this is, it's just a stupid thing. Like, I know that that's the new thing is to go bet and try and make that little bit of extra money. You know, I'm not really about it myself because honestly I don't understand it and it's a slippery slope and if I start betting I'm probably going to lose money so I have my own. I'm not going to do it because I know I'm going to lose. That's kind of my pride thing on it so I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it.
