The Yeti Podcast, brought to you by the Student Government Association (SGA), provides information about events and opportunities at Cleveland Community College (CCC). SGA promotes student government and encourages cooperation between students and college personnel. They sponsor activities and strive to promote student welfare. SGA is currently accepting applications and will co-host a discussion panel for Women's History Month. Yetis United, a new student support service, aims to create a sense of belonging for students at CCC through monthly meetings. SGA also shares the schedule for upcoming athletic events and highlights the services provided by TRIO, a student support service for first-generation, disabled, and financially needy students. The podcast concludes by inviting listeners to stay updated and have a great month. Good day, CCC Yetis, and welcome to the Yeti Podcast. We hope that these episodes will provide you with a rundown of this month's events and opportunities. This podcast is brought to you by the Student Government Association. The Student Government Association is an organization that promotes student government and represents the student body. We strive to encourage cooperation between students and college personnel, sponsor activities and endeavors that will benefit the students, the college, and the community and do all things necessary to promote the welfare of the students. Our SGA members gain leadership experience, find their voices, and have lots of fun while serving the student body. Most of our events on campus are sponsored and attended by your SGA, and we work hard to promote student involvement because you are our priority. We will be taking applications for SGA soon, so please stop by room 2097 in the Jack Hunt Building across from the Student Enrollment Office if you are interested in joining us. My name is Maria Nelly Rivera-Guerrero. I go by Nelly, and I am your SGA President. Today we have with us my Vice President, Helene Lawrence. Hello. To start things off, we would like to say Happy Women's History Month. In celebration, SGA and the EDI Committee will be co-hosting a discussion panel featuring women from Cleveland Community College, and we would like to invite you. This will take place Thursday, March 28th from 1130 to 1 in ATC 7270. Next, we have a brand new student support service coming to CCC. It is a community group called Yetis United. This group's purpose is to make you feel more at home here at Cleveland Community College. I know a lot of times when students enroll, they make it a point to just go to class, do their work, and keep their head down without making space to enjoy all of what CCC has to offer, and that's okay. Some students have full lives outside of school, but sometimes we can feel a bit lonely on this journey of getting our degrees. That's where Yetis United comes in. It is a designated space for people with different experiences, cultures, and or backgrounds. These meetings will take place about once a month and will be open to students to connect with others similar to them for bonding, open communication, gaining knowledge, and supporting each other along the way. Imagine being able to come to campus knowing you have friends who understand and are on the same boat as you. Here at CCC, we are a family. Let's be united. Our orientation will be on March 12th from 1130 to 1230 p.m. We would love for you to come check out what we have to offer and hear your suggestions to make you feel more welcome here. Please attend if you have the chance. Lunch will be served for those who are SVP. If you are interested but can't make it to orientation, you can still sign up so we have an interest list to be able to plan accordingly. If you have any questions, have a chat with me if you see me around campus, or bring your questions to Ms. Wanda at the SGA office room across from student enrollment. Our SGA senator could not be here today, but she wrote a few words about her journey here and how she feels about our new student support service. Hello, this is Alejandra. I am the newest member of SGA. When I first started my journey at CCC, I went to classes and left. I was not interested in being part of anything and did not know about any events. My second semester here, I got an email about an event with SGA. It was a Hispanic Heritage Month event, and I was very excited to be part of it. While being part of it, I got to see a different part of CCC that I was not aware of. It made me realize that I have been missing so much. I applied for SGA after talking to Nelly about me wanting to have been a part of something for so long but not knowing how. She suggested that I apply, and soon after, I got accepted. I truly believe that Yetis United can be the place for students that are in the same situation as me to discover different ways to make their journey at CCC a great experience in that same way. SGA has been making my time here more enjoyable. I encourage any student to attend Yetis United, and who knows, this may be the place where you really start experiencing the best our campus has to offer. Hey, this is Helenium. I'm the vice president of SGA. The next topic is athletics. Dr. Garner does a great job of sending out emails to keep us updated on our games, but if you haven't checked it out, here's the schedule.
