AI technology. Additionally, individuals need to be educated and aware of the ethical implications of AI and participate in discussions and decision-making processes. Overall, addressing the ethical concerns of AI is crucial to ensure its development and use aligns with societal values and benefits humanity. Mark, T-minus 20 seconds. Now, once again, with all the buzz about artificial intelligence, and since it seems to be what everybody's asking me about, I thought I'd take their questions and offer some answers. This is the second of a 15-part series centered around AI and digital opportunities. So let's get started with today's question and go from there. Considering the advancements in artificial intelligence, what are the key ethical implications of AI in terms of privacy, autonomy, and employment? So let's talk about ethics. Ethics is kind of a personal thing. It plays big roles in our policies for government, schools, religion. Ethics questions is a really big one in the world of AI. Now, AI has kind of snuck up on us to a certain extent. I mean, last time I covered how it got started. And it does have a huge implication in almost every aspect of our life. So I'm going to jump into a little discussion here about that particular thing. I'm going to cover different areas like privacy and jobs and all kinds of fun stuff. So here we go. First of all, artificial intelligence has just transitioned from the futuristic concept to absolutely a total central point in our lives. Now, this remarkable growth, while bringing some unprecedented conveniences and efficiencies, has really ushered in a complex array of ethical challenges. Understanding and addressing these issues is crucial in ensuring AI develops in a way that is beneficial and non-detrimental to our society. This is the reason why I am doing these particular podcasts. The more you become aware of what AI is and how it interfaces with everything in our world, you will see, based upon your own beliefs and filters, that the ethical approach to this is just as important as the technical aspect. Well, let's start off with one of the biggies, and that has to do with privacy. So AI systems, they often require vast amounts of data to learn and to make the decisions that they make. Now, this data collection raises questions about the surveillance and the extent to which personal information is used and potentially even abused. The balance between leveraging data for AI advancement and respecting individual privacy rights is a very delicate one. Now, if you go out and research this, you're going to find there's a hot topic everywhere, and this is where conspiracy theories have a tendency to jump in and to get everybody convoluted and all worried about things. First of all, you need to understand that a lot of that conspiracy theory entirely is based on fear. You need to approach it a little more on the common sense approach. AI, the huge benefit that it's going to be in the future, needs data. How it's going to get that data is the question. Now, right now it has access to the Internet, which provides vast amounts of data. But now it's also beginning to have not only written interface with chat GPT or other types of chatbots, it also has communications with voice. And many people use that AI as a therapist or a boyfriend, girlfriend. So there's lots of information being given to it through voice that's outside of the data that's available on the Internet. Interesting one. The problem with all this one more time, though, is that when you bring in certain types of data from different types of sources, you're going to have something called bias. So this is really another big problem that AI has to face. So since AI systems learn from data and if this data contains human biases, the AI will too. Now, this can lead to discriminatory outcomes in areas like hiring practices or law enforcement and even loan approvals. Ensuring AI fairness and impartiality is going to be the challenge that involves careful data set curation and algorithmic transparency. This is one of the hugest considerations for those who are still actively involved in the expansion of AI. I know that some of the more important figures, which I will talk about in one of my later podcasts, have been attempting and they've been signing documents to rein in the expansion of AI. Now, these guys carry a lot of impact. They include Elon Musk and others in his category of skillsets. But it's probably a little bit too late. And now that we have the interfaces available to be able to create our own chatbots without limits, yeah, that really could be an issue and a concern. One of the other ones that seems people have a lot of fear about is, what about my job? You know, AI has the ability to automate tasks much more efficiently than humans do. And that can lead to some significant job displacements. And while AI can create these new job opportunities, the transition can often be difficult for those whose skills are rendered, what one would call, obsolete. So this raises ethical questions about the responsibility of AI developers and broader society in supporting these displaced workers. Rocket & Rich, where learning meets opportunity. And now I'll go to one that really has been intriguing to me. As you may or may not know, I kind of grew up in the military. So the use of AI in military applications, it offers a whole other ethical series of dilemmas. Autonomous weapon systems, which can make decisions to engage targets without human intervention, raises all kinds of concerns about the moral implications of such actions and the potential for accidental escalations in conflict. Now, we've seen this in some movies, particularly back in the 70s and 80s, I remember. And it's a consideration. The other thing we've always taken a look at is who can take over because it seems to be digitally controlled. Can somebody else grab onto that thing and make it do something that it wasn't expected or told to do? So that's a consideration. And so people who are in the government and particularly those involved with the protection of our freedom have a serious problem to look at. How far do they go in letting AI have control over the weaponry that we've managed to create? Another one, because we're looking at potentialities of disasters in the future, who's going to be held accountable? So as the decision-making processes become much more automated, determining the accountability for AI's action also becomes more complex. So when an AI system makes a mistake, assigning the responsibility for that mistake, does it go to the developers or the users or even AI itself? Yeah. These are the challenges that our legal and our ethical frameworks need to be taken a look at. We know that our government here in the United States has been adapting itself to cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. It hasn't been easy for them to make that turn, because whenever you deal with a government structure, it just doesn't go fast. But now they need to act a little bit faster, because there are things that AI is going to do. So as you play with Chatbot and some of these other ones that are out there, you're going to find that occasionally they'll give you information which is incorrect. I know I ran a test on Chatbot once and asked it about a tax issue, and it came back with the incorrect answer. Interestingly enough, when I came back and said, hey, I'm sorry, but that is incorrect information, it apologized all over itself. It was kind of fun to see. However, it is a reality. It is a reality. It does not have all the answers, and it is greatly influenced by the data that it receives from all kinds of different sources. So just be aware. Another thing, which I find really fascinating, is you take a look at the Tesla robots, which are growing. AI's impact on the nature of human interaction and relationships is also becoming an ethical concern. As AI systems become much more advanced, particularly in areas of emotional intelligence, the way we interact with these systems and the impact on human relationships has got to be considered. You know, it's interesting because the sexbot trade, which really started out as nothing but a plastic mask on a broomstick, has become quite large. And a lot of people have moved to those type of relationships with this inanimate object and given themselves to it. And we could actually have an impact on our population. Instead of being able to add to the population to give us the workers that we need for other types of areas, there aren't any. So it's an idea. It's just something to play with there. So we're going to start addressing these ethical challenges. They require some multifaceted approach. So the governments and the regulatory bodies, they need to develop some clear policies and some regulations that kind of guide the AI development and the use of it. AI developers and the companies, they need to adhere to ethical principles and consider the societal impacts of their work. I know that I hear from the big wigs always talk about, yes, we're doing this. We're putting in all of these important aspects of it. But there's no guarantee that it cannot be misconstrued somewhere down the line. And the other one that's really important, which is why I'm doing these 15 parts, is the public education and the awareness. It's really important that everybody understands what AI's role is in society. Now, interesting enough, your input on it is actually quite powerful. This is why I'm asking you. Throw me questions. Give me something that I'll be able to answer in helping everybody understand the impact of AI. So the ethical implications of AI are as diverse as they are complex. They touch on the fundamental aspects of privacy and fairness and accountability and our very interaction with technology. And as AI continues to evolve, it's imperative that the ethical considerations are at the forefront of this evolution, guiding AI towards a future that enhances and enriches our daily human life.
