According to a report, Canada has a significant issue with homelessness. There are a limited number of emergency shelters, transitional housing shelters, and shelters for women escaping violence. At the time of the census, almost 7 in 10 of these residents were at shelter for people with no fixed address. One quarter, 5,365, were at shelter for women and children escaping abuse, and the remaining 1,320 were in other type of shelters. This means at least 235,000 Canadians experience homelessness every year.
