Homelessness is a global issue affecting over 100 million people. The United Nations emphasizes the importance of providing quality homes for everyone. The Canadian Observatory on Homelessness explains that homelessness is when individuals, families, or communities lack stable and appropriate housing. Homelessness is a social determinant of health, and its impact on society's well-being is reaching a crisis point. As we are aware, homelessness is an epidemic that affects both developed and developing countries, with over 100 million people in the world being homeless. There is a need to reduce homelessness by improving access to good, quality, healthy and barrier-free homes for all. United Nations, 2021 No single definition of homelessness exists, either in Canada or anywhere in the world. But homelessness is described as a situation where an individual, family or community does not have stable, safe, permanent and appropriate housing or the immediate prospects and ability to acquire it. Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, 2017 We chose the topic because homelessness is one of the social determinants of health and there is a need to create awareness as homelessness is reaching a crisis point and as such, its impact on the health and wellness of the society.
