Scarlett, a computer science major at Boston University, discusses balancing her college lifestyle with extracurricular activities such as a sorority and exercise. She prioritizes completing her work before engaging in social events, leading to a struggle in finding a balance. However, she is not overly upset about it. Scarlett advises college students to prioritize relationships and make the most of their limited time in college. My name is Blaise Salepi, and today I am here with Scarlett Salepi, a 20-year-old college student at Boston University, and today we are going to be talking about balancing lifestyle as a college student. Scarlett, what is your major and what does your course load look like with that major? I study computer science, and it's a very hard course load. I have computer science, and then my other classes are just extracurricular classes that I have to take to fulfill health requirements. Do you do any other activities that go along with your major, or are your activities separate from your major? Last semester, I was in a project management club, which kind of aligns with my major and a future career I'm interested in, but other than that, I just exercise a lot, and I'm also in a sorority, and I like to hang out with friends. Oh, that's fun. What sorority are you in? Southside. Awesome, and is it difficult for you to have these courses and your activities go together? What is the biggest struggle that you have balancing a lifestyle of school, friends, your sorority, and overall health and well-being? At least in my school, I know it's different for a lot of schools, especially in the South, where Greek life is very prominent, but Greek life for me doesn't really get in the way of my course load. It's more of me picking and choosing what I want to go to, but I've found that if my work isn't done, I can't do anything but that. I won't exercise. I won't go to any events. It's primarily just a focus of me making sure all my work is done. What would you rate your struggle to balance all of this out of 10? I would give it a 7 or an 8 because it's not a great struggle because I'm not really upset by it. I'm not upset by not going to any events or going out with my friends, but just in the end, I put everything off just to complete work. I don't find a balance to exercise or maybe go for a walk or do a lot of time to hang out with my friends and take care of those relationships. In that aspect, I think there's a great struggle, but again, I'm not too upset about it. I think it's a great thing you mentioned that because I think a lot of college students can relate to that aspect. To end, do you have any advice to give to anybody listening? Focus on the relationships you can take care of. You only have four years of college and being a rising junior, it really does fly by. You don't want to look back and regret not doing more and not seeing your friends more. I think it's just important to find that balance. I'm definitely going to work on that this next year. Alright, thank you so much. You're welcome. It was great talking to you.
