The speaker guides the listener to get comfortable and focus on the present moment, letting go of distractions. They explain how a pattern called "the loop" can sabotage relationships by making someone push away genuinely good partners due to feeling threatened by their warmth and consistency. The practice involves noticing this pattern of fault-finding, withdrawal, and testing, and simply naming it as the "safety alarm" without self-blame. By recognizing and naming this behavior, one can gain more control over their choices in relationships. Before we start, I want you to get comfortable, not perfectly comfortable, just comfortable enough. If you're sitting, let your back have some support. If you're lying down, let your body be heavy. Take one breath, just one, and on the exhale, let your shoulders drop. Good. I'm going to ask you to put whatever is happening in your life right now. The to-do list, the thing he said, the thing you're still thinking about. Put all of it aside for the next few minutes. Not forever. Just for now. For right now, there's nothing else you need to be doing. Nowhere you need to be. No one you need to respond to. Just this. Take another breath. Good. Let's begin. Something I didn't understand for a long time. The loop doesn't just pull you toward unavailable men. It also has a defensive pattern. When someone is genuinely good, consistent, warm, interested, the loop reads it as a threat. Not consciously. You don't decide to push them away. But something starts happening. You start finding things wrong. You pull back just when things get close. You create a small piece of friction, just to see. This is the safety alarm. And today, we name it. There are three things the loop does when safety arrives. The first is fault-finding. He's slightly too eager. His laugh is a bit much. He texted twice in a row, and something about that felt wrong. These might be real observations. But the loop amplifies them into reasons. The second is withdrawal. Just as things get warm and close, just as he starts to feel certain, you become a little cooler. Less available. You need a bit more space. The third is testing. You introduce a small amount of uncertainty. Not replying immediately. Being a little more distant. To see if he'll stay. None of these are conscious choices. They are the loop's defensive pattern activating. Because if you let someone safe all the way in, and it doesn't go wrong, the loop becomes unnecessary. And the loop's pattern doesn't want to become unnecessary. The practice today is the simplest one so far. Just naming it. When you notice yourself doing one of those three things, finding fault, pulling back, testing, you name it. You say to yourself, that's the safety alarm. Not, what's wrong with me? Not, I'm doing it again. Just, that's the safety alarm. Think of a recent example. Has there been someone in the last few months who was consistently good to you, and you found yourself doing one of those three things? If yes, you don't need to fix it right now. You just need to name it. Say it. That was a safety alarm. Feel what changes when you name it as the loop's defensive pattern, rather than evidence of your own feelings. That's enough. That's all today asks of you. What if the person most likely to be right for you was the one you've been most likely to push away? What if slowing down with someone safe wasn't boring, but the most radical thing you could do? Naming the safety alarm doesn't mean you have to stay. It means you get to choose, rather than have the loop choose for you. Rest now.
