Welcome to Believe Together, a Churches Together in Cainchum, Saltonwood production for KTCRFM 105.8 and online. Yes, that's quite true of course. Now, as somebody said in church on Sunday, we need to pray for everybody, whatever religion or non-religion they are, that if only they just have one touch from the King, that's Jesus, maybe, you know, they'll want to have peace and no more fighting. So let's play one of those oldies that you may know or not, Just One Touch from the King, sung here by Godfrey Bertil. It's a battle raging over this land, A deep damage in the people, But Christ stops us stretching out our withered hands, But God has stretched out to heal us this time Lord, This time Lord, This time Lord, This time Lord, Just one touch from the King, Changes everything, Just one touch, Just one touch from the King, Changes everything, everything. There's a great darkness over this land, A deep darkness on the people, But the light is shining, And the dark can't understand, The light of the world, King Jesus, Do you know? Do you really know? Do you know? Do you know? Just one touch from the King, Changes everything, Just one touch from the King, Changes everything, Oh land, oh land, oh land, oh land, You are the Lord, Oh land, oh land, oh land, You are the Lord, Oh land, oh land, oh land, You are the Lord, Oh land, oh land, oh land, You are the Lord. Just one touch from the King, Changes everything, Just one touch, Just one touch from the King, Changes everything, Just one touch from the King, Changes everything, Just one touch from the King, Changes everything, Oh land, oh land, oh land, Hear the word of the Lord, England, England, England, England, Hear the word of the Lord, Scotland, Scotland, Scotland, Scotland, Hear the word of the Lord, Ireland, Ireland, Ireland, Ireland, Hear the word of the Lord, Cumbria, Cumbria, Cumbria, Cumbria, Hear the word of the Lord, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans, New Orleans Just one touch from the king changes everything Just one touch from the king changes everything Just one touch from the king changes everything Just one touch from the king changes everything And now it's time for this week's quiz Over to you Celia This week it's another general knowledge quiz To get those brain cells working and keep you on your toes And our first question is I have a cake and a table named after me And I'm used all round the world What am I? Well Celia I'm not quite sure what it is you're getting at there Something that's round all the world But hey at least I know someone who's round the world Hey Celia and that's Jesus And in fact he's got the whole world in his hands hasn't he? So let's play he's got the whole world in his hands by the Sunshine Kids He's got the whole world in his hands He's got the whole world in his hands He's got the whole world in his hands He's got the whole world in his hands He's got the wind and the rain in his hands He's got the wind and the rain in his hands He's got the wind and the rain in his hands He's got the whole world in his hands He's got everybody here in his hands He's got everybody here in his hands He's got everybody here in his hands He's got the whole world in his hands He's got the whole world in his hands He's got the whole world in his hands He's got the whole world in his hands He's got the whole world in his hands He's got the whole world in his hands In his hands And now for the Thought for the Week for the Kingsham Talking Newspaper Hello, I'm Rachel Shaw from St Francis Church with the Fourth of Our Reflections Inspired by trees The word paradise means literally garden And has come to mean the place where we are closest to God The gardeners listening won't find that at all surprising As it says in the popular poem by Dorothy Gurney One is nearer God's heart in a garden than anywhere else on earth Indeed one of God's earliest acts was to plant a garden Full of all sorts of trees, good for food and pleasing to the eye Here Adam and Eve in a state of innocence enjoyed the garden freely in God's company The book of Genesis describes God walking in the garden in the cool of the day No doubt taking great pleasure in its sights and sounds And the delicate evening fragrances as the sun goes down It's a wonderful image and one that anyone who loves gardens can relate to A moment of tranquil enjoyment after a day's work Just marvelling at the miracle of growing things When we attend a garden, however inexpertly Or even look after a pot plant In a very small way we are sharing in God's creative activity Maybe getting a glimpse of how God intended things to be The tragedy of human nature What we call the fall or turning from God or choosing our own path However we describe it Is that our harmonious relationship with creation and the creator is gravely damaged When God called out, where are you? The man and the woman, Adam and Eve, hid amongst the trees in shame and guilt The garden of Eden becomes a faded memory Or a dreamlike longing for a lost perfection This makes the resurrection story of Mary in the garden of the tombs all the more powerful It's a sort of parallel but opposite to all that Still reeling from the execution of the one she believed as God's son She sees the empty tomb and assumes that Jesus' dead body has been stolen She barely notices that there's another figure standing nearby Who asks, woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for? Thinking it was the gardener She says, sir, if you have carried him away Tell me where you have put him and I will get him And Jesus, for that's who it is, says, Mary And recognising that beloved voice She turns towards him and cries out in Aramaic Rabboni, which means teacher So, from the garden of Eden to the garden of the tomb In the risen Jesus, the relationship with God is fully restored This is the Christian hope So as we end these four reflections I pray that you may, like Mary, recognise the presence of Jesus standing with you Even in the most sorrowful of moments Bringing healing, comfort, hope and joy Dying, bleeding, dying You're alive, you're alive, you have risen Alleluia, alleluia, and the power and the glory is given Alleluia, alleluia, Jesus, pray you Alleluia, alleluia, and the power and the glory is given Alleluia, alleluia, and the power and the glory is given Alleluia, alleluia, and the power and the glory is given Alleluia, alleluia, and the power and the glory is given You're alive, you're alive, you have risen Alleluia, alleluia, and the power and the glory is given Alleluia, alleluia, Jesus, pray you Cast the right hand of the Father, and of Jesus on high You have begun your eternal reign of justice and joy Glory, glory, glory, glory You're alive, you're alive, you have risen Alleluia, alleluia, and the power and the glory is given Alleluia, alleluia, you're alive, you're alive, you have risen Alleluia, alleluia, and the power and the glory is given Alleluia, alleluia, you're alive, you're alive, you have risen Alleluia, alleluia, and the power and the glory is given Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia Thank you, Rachel, for your excellent thoughts for the weeks of October and for your choices of music to go with them and that was another great song Led Like a Lamb, sung there by Graham Kendrick Yes, that song has so many excellent words and sets out again one of the heart points of the Christian faith and our hope for the future that Jesus is alive and we'll pick up the theme of gardens again later in the show this week And now, over to Celia for the second question for the Just for Fun quiz Second question Which type of entertainment has cars but no roads, curves but no figure, and white knuckles? Well, thank you again, Celia I think I've heard about white knuckles somewhere else Now, where was it I heard about that? Ah, well, we'll find out in the answers at the end of the show Now, Jenny Yes I've found a couple more very silly tree jokes Oh dear Because, of course, we've had trees in all of our thoughts for the weeks in October Yes, well, here we are Let's have a go What's a tree's favourite subject in school? I don't know, maths? Sort of, it's geometry Ah, I see And our last tree joke for the month Why don't you ever see elephants hiding in trees? I don't know, they're too big No, it's because they're really good at hiding Anyway, there we are Well, here we are with my leprosy mission diary verse for the week Which comes from Psalm 118 Which says, The Lord is on my side, I will not fear Which, of course, is excellent So, let's hear Amanda Cooke singing You make me brave, that's why we won't fear I stand before you now The greatness of your renown I have heard of the majesty and wonder of you King of heaven in humility I bow as your love In wave after wave Crashes over me For you are for us You are not against us Champion of heaven You made a way for us to enter in I have heard you calling my name I have heard the song of love that you sing Oh, so I will let you draw me out beyond the storm into your grave Oh, your reign As your love In wave after wave Crashes over me Crashes over me For you are for us You are not against us Champion of heaven You made a way for us to enter in You make me brave You call me out beyond the shore into the wave You make me brave No fear can hinder now the love that made a way You make me brave You make me brave You call me out beyond the shore into the wave You make me brave You make me brave No fear can hinder now the promises you made Because your love In wave after wave Crashes over me Crashes over me For you are for us You are not against us Champion of heaven You made a way Champion of heaven You made a way for us to enter in One of our good friends, David Brissington, produces a very different show on this radio station. Let's hear him tell you all about it. Hi, I'm Dave Brissington, and it's my pleasure to present the Country Hour on KTCR 105.8 FM. You will hear classic country hits, old and new, plus news on local clubs and gigs. I'm looking forward to spending this hour with you. Until then, keep it country. You're listening to Believe Together, a Churches Together and KCM and Salford production for KTCR FM 105.8 and online. And now, time for the final question for the Just Fun Quiz. Over to Celia. And finally, our question today. What is soaked in vinegar and then hung on a string? Wow, thank you, Celia. That does ring bells. I recall collecting things under trees in the autumn. It was so exciting and they were so beautiful. But maybe that's not what you mean. I wonder if anyone can think of any different answers from the one I'm thinking of. We'll soon find out anyway. We've got a couple of really new things to tell you about this week. And this is the first one. Just this afternoon, as we're recording this show, we've introduced an even easier email address to contact us on the team of Believe Together. So, this is a very simple one for you to remember if you know the name of our radio station, which is KTCR FM. And the email address is bt at ktcrfm.com. How about that? Maybe I'll remember it, too. Okay, well, going back to Rachel's theme of gardens, let's hear this beautiful song in the garden by Rosemary Siemens. I come to the garden alone While the dew is still on the roses And the voice I hear falling on my ear The Son of God discloses And He walks with me And He talks with me And He tells me I am His own And the joy we share As we carry that None other has ever known He speaks and the sound of His voice Is so sweet, the birds hush their singing And the melody that He gave to me Within my heart is ringing And He walks with me And He talks with me And He tells me I am His own And the joy we share As we carry that None other has ever known And He walks with me And He talks with me And He tells me I am His own And the joy we share As we carry that None other has ever known And the joy we share As we carry that None other has ever known Now, let's talk about some of the things that happened recently and are going to happen over the next few weeks. First of all, Christian Aid say thank you to all who helped and supported in their High Street collection recently. They were very pleased to raise £494.45. But if you want to increase that amount, it's not too late to donate. You're obviously welcome to contact any of your usual people in the JustChristianAid committee or via this show in one of the usual ways and we'll pass on your notes or request. Now, St John's Church invites anybody who would like to to go to the annual commemoration service. This is to remember those who have died over the past couple of years or so. You're more than welcome to come and remember a loved one from longer ago as well, of course. At the service at St John's Church at 6pm on Sunday 5th November, so that's Guy Fawkes Night it says we will remember by name those who have died. As you arrive in church, you may wish to confirm with the sidesman that the name of your relative or friend is amongst those due to be read out later in the service. If you know of someone that would benefit from joining us, please let them know they'll be more than welcome to join us. Now, a different sort of service in the Sanctuary Garden. There's a daily prayer rhythm Monday to Friday starting at 7.15am in the morning a sort of a breakfast service, if you like to put it that way, called Be Still. Begin the day being still as we listen to audiobooks or the Bible. Then at midday, 12.30 until 1 o'clock, Be Thankful. Stop to give thanks and pray for family, friends and the community. Then later on, 6.15pm to 6.45pm. These are all quite short, aren't they? A Lectio Family, with the kids in mind. And together we'll gather around material from the interactive Lectio Family app. 7 o'clock to 7.30, Lectio Compline. End the day with a blend of traditional Compline. That was a beautiful old service from the monks' days. And material from the Lectio 365 app. Wild About Community. For more info, you can contact us via this show or via Trevor James directly or just contact us here at this show and we'll pass on your requests. Lovely. Now in Bath and North East Somerset, that's Baines, we're very fortunate to have a local charity, the Carer Centre. It's dedicated to supporting the thousands of people caring for their loved ones in Bath and the surrounding areas. If you live somewhere different, I expect you have a local charity with these Carer Centres so why not look them out? They provide trusted information, advice and support to anyone looking after their loved ones in this area. And they help young people from five years of age and adults, of course, at any stage in their caring role. They do all sorts of things to help them, so that's excellent. And they do suggest ways that the rest of us, who perhaps aren't carers, can support carers. Here are some of the ways they suggest. Being a good neighbour and picking up shopping, prescriptions when in town or mowing the lawn or simply having a cup of coffee and chat. Or volunteering with one of the carer cafes, well-being activities, young carers activities or being an ambassador in our own community, raising awareness of caring and the support available. Or we might even hold a fundraising event, such as a coffee morning or walk, to raise much-needed funds to help sustain the charity's support. Or you could, of course, make a one-off or regular donation. There are so many things we could do. If you would like to know more, as a carer or on behalf of carers, you can go to baynescarercentre.org.uk Now, of course, that website is on our Facebook page, I hope, by now. And you can always, if you forget it and can't make it any other way, contact us here, the team on Believe Together and we'll pass on your requests. Now, we mentioned earlier about a light party. There's an all-age light party. The only one in the town that we know of, so far, on Sunday 29th October. That's this weekend, coming up from 4 o'clock in the afternoon until 5.30 in the St John's Church Hall. That's the parish church hall, behind the big parish church. Everyone is welcome. Everyone is welcome. Activities will include games, apple-bobbing, candle-making, science experiments and cakes and drinks. But they would like to know, if you're going to come, you don't have to tell them, but it would be very helpful to the catering side of things, to know who's coming. You can contact us here again on Believe Together and we'll pass on your information. Or you can contact Alison Thurlow, if you know how. Or just look at the Facebook page and there's the details. Well, thinking of light, because we've had the Halloween, the dark side, even if it is a bit of fun for many. And then the light side, the light party. Well, this is something quite interesting, I think. I happen to have a cousin who's been involved in the music industry for many years and he has a friend, Tony Rees, who writes the music and the words for songs and he records them. And he's been in many bands over the years. So, obviously, he's not quite a young chap then, eh? And he's written another song and it's called Your Delight. So, this is by Tony Rees. And we have exclusive right to broadcast it at the moment, apparently. So, let's make the most of it. We're the first radio station to be able to play Your Delight. I wonder what you make of the words, if they're relevant to you at all. Thank you, Tony Rees. Tony Rees. Make mistakes As he travels along that road I know I'll hear The sound of your voice, Lord Oh, yes, I'm waiting For that glorious day Then I'll be joining the crowd As they walk to your door Meeting old and new friends along the way You've always known my destiny Forgive my sins, set me free Let the light in your eyes shine on me Please take my hand, speak my name Lord, wash my sins away Cause you're the light in the night that leads me home I know I'll hear The sound of your voice, Lord Oh, yes, I'm waiting For that glorious day Then I'll be joining the crowd As they walk to your door Meeting old and new friends along the way So take my hand and lead me through The gates of heaven to be with you Let me walk with you just all the way We'll sing the songs we love to sing As the angels guide us in Lord, you're the light on my long and lonely road Yes, you're the light in the night that leads me home Oh, you're the light in the night that leads me home Take my hand and, Lord, you're the light In the night that leads me home Oh, you're the light in the night that leads me home Come on and lead me home Yes, you're the light in the night that leads me home Now we have a quick reminder about shoeboxes Remember, Operation Christmas Child is already going They're booked the morning of Saturday the 4th of November for a shoebox packing morning between 10 and 12 at the Victoria Methodist Centre There'll be a red box at the back of both churches, Methodist churches for donations if you'd like to drop them off before then There'll also be leaflets available which tells you what is allowed in the boxes OK, then Cainston's Healing Church are as usual collecting Christmas shoeboxes to go out to desperate families in Romania Now these need to be in by the very latest Sunday the 12th of November For more details please go to the Cainston's Healing Church website Now also St Mary's Church in Salford will be sending out Christmas shoeboxes from people in Salford, Causton and Newtons and Lowe They need to be back to St Mary's Church or the Bird in Hand or Salford Marina or Salford Hall by 15th of November Information is available on what to put in them Now the Cainston's Healing Church is doing something else a big show at church they've been doing for the last few years It's always very popular and it always gets overbooked So if you'd like a ticket you need to get one soon Now this year it's called Big Trouble in Little Bethlehem It's a great show for all the family and it's at Cainston's Healing Church in Balmoral Road It's going to be a little earlier this year Sunday the 6th of December with shows at 2.30pm and 6.30pm So tell your friends about it and you might want to buy a ticket for someone Make sure you book the correct performance Now there will be a visit from Father Christmas as well with a prezzie for every child The tickets do cost £6 and all the profits are going to charities here and abroad So why not get a ticket? You might like to go to Eventbrite They are the ones selling the tickets So if you go to Eventbrite and type in Big Trouble in Little Bethlehem you're bound to find what you want Don't forget to look carefully to make sure you get your matinee ticket or your evening performance ticket Yes and of course if you can't get online like that then please feel free to contact the team here at Believe Together in one of the usual ways and we'll sort out something for you Now Christmas lunch, Christmas Day dinner We've mentioned this before Well we are pleased to be able to report that Churches Together have had volunteers to do the cooking and some of the other jobs involved in providing Christmas Day dinner but they desperately need somebody to actually be the coordinator on the day if you like the master of ceremonies call it what you like the person who will hold everything together for the actual event itself Without that they cannot do it and the deadline for making a decision is the end of October So if you or someone you know would like to do that it would be a huge difference to some people who go along there desperate for some company Well if you know somebody who could do it please contact this show or Ros Dullant at the Baptist Church Now there's something else starting soon a new thing so listen to this and you might find you want to go or you know someone who wants to go It's a quiet space with coffee and cake on the first Tuesday of every month This is for those living with dementia or memory loss and their carers and this begins on Tuesday 7th November from 10.30am until noon in the Victorian Methodist Church, Keynsham So maybe you know someone who might like to go along If you'd like further information please contact Sue Stevens email pastoralworkerkmc at gmail.com or call in at the Methodist Church office And lastly for this week KTCR FM, the radio station have asked us to pass on this announcement This year we've all seen the terrible effects of global warming and how it's affecting life on Earth This November, for the first time ever community radio stations from across the country are coming together for Our Earth Week seven days where we shine the spotlight on the climate crisis and celebrate life on our planet Find out how climate change is affecting your town, city or village and what your street and community can do to adapt to these changes There'll be lots of conversation, quizzes fascinating facts and figures and even food tastings And if you want to get even more involved you can take part in Our Earth Challenge with one action to take every day All this and so much more on your community radio station with Our Earth Week starting Monday 20th November Life on Earth is precious Let's come together to save it You're listening to Believe Together The church is together in Kincham and Salford Production for KTCR FM 105.8 and online Now, I wonder if you've watched Songs of Praise on BBC One last week Well, I was interested to find out that apparently we're in Black History Month and part of the programme came from St Mary Redcliffe Church in Bristol, that magnificent place and they've concentrated on shining a light on its past through its stained glass windows There are over 1,000 panels of stained glass Of course, that church is called the fairest and goodliest church in all England They've replaced the panels that commemorated the slave trade at Edward Colston Three years ago, of course Colston's statue was tipped into the river in Bristol The motto on the old panels was Go and do likewise Well, they've had to get rid of that So, they now have beautiful new stained glass there representing Jesus in multiple ethnicities in biblical scenes accompanied by the question Who is my neighbour? So, they want people to encounter the gospel in that church and they ask, who is my neighbour and who are we excluding? They spoke about the bus boycott of 60th anniversary and I actually saw that on the news tonight, so it's quite interesting There was a man there, whose father was the first black bus driver in Bristol So, that's good, isn't it? All people contributing in so many ways to the city's life and church there But they're looking to the future, of course And after that, they played a song from somewhere else called, We Cannot Measure How You Feel So, let's play that now We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel We cannot measure how you feel Now let's look at some of this week's news headlines Rise in anti-Christian violence in India is deeply alarming Missionary pilot who was wrongfully imprisoned flees Mozambique Biden and Pope Francis discuss Israel and Gaza in a call Annual survey finds increase in global Catholic population but decrease in number of priests and nuns Chinese church is fastest growing church in UK thanks to warm about yourself by going on the internet In particular, you could just type in Christian news headlines and you'll find the sort of things that I put up there and with more details about them And now let's find out the answers over to Celia So the answers to the quiz are a cake and a table named after me makes me coffee and the type of entertainment that has cars but no roads and has white knuckles is of course a roller coaster and what's soaked in vinegar and hung on a string of course it's conkers and that's quite topical now if you see a chestnut tree there's usually children scrabbling around and I hope they're allowed to play with them too Thank you for those answers Celia So in a minute we'll be playing out with a collective singing My Lighthouse So we need to say goodbye now Goodbye everyone, thank you ever so much for listening And it's goodbye from me as well And it's goodbye from us too and here's Des with the blessing Loving Heavenly Father give us the assurance of your almighty protection in the trouble of our lives keep us in the quietness of spirit always trusting in your loving care and blessings Amen In my wrestling In my doubt In my failures
