Understanding Grief in a Public World

After the recent BC shooting, much of the public conversation has extended beyond the tragedy itself. We’ve seen intense reactions, commentary, and in some cases, harassment directed toward families connected to the event. It raises an important question: How are we processing grief as a society? Grief doesn’t just happen in private anymore. It unfolds online — under scrutiny, opinion, and emotional escalation. And when grief isn’t understood, it metastasizes.
