The speaker discusses the controversy surrounding video games and their impact on society. They mention that video games are often criticized for "rotting the brain" and promoting violence or sexual assault, but argue that other forms of media do the same. They use Mario as an example to illustrate how people can overanalyze and find hidden meanings in even the simplest games. The speaker concludes by jokingly addressing their English teacher and explaining that their submission is a humorous assignment based on a famous Mario essay. They apologize for any wasted time and hope the teacher appreciates their humor. Good day, good day to all of my beloved listeners, and if you're new here, welcome to The Void, where we bring up all sorts of topic within the media we consume daily, which to this point means we talk just about anything. Now dear listeners, are any of you gamers, or are you maybe someone who's against that form of entertainment? Today we'll be digging deeper on the topic, or as we like to say, going into the void of it all, because what is the true impact video game leaves on us as a society? Video games might be the entertainment that has the most controversy around it. Despite it genuinely being a harmless hobby, most of this controversy often comes from people who aren't gamers themselves, which is why I'll be talking about it, because I'm a person who agrees or understands where the controversy comes from, but I'm also a gamer myself. The controversy often arises from the games rotting the brain, or normalizing things like violence or sexual assault, however this is something all media does, books and movies all do this, however I think the reason as for why people are more iffy about games is due to usually being a first person point of view alongside with visual aspects. There is a lot one can question about games, if you overanalyze something hard enough, you can take the most simple, family-friendly game and find a way to make it some twisted meaning behind it. Let's take Mario for example. Everyone knows Mario is cool as fuck, but who knows what he's thinking? Who knows why he crushes turtles? And why do we think of him as fondly as we think of the mythical, non-existent Dr. Pepper, perchance? I believe it was Kent who said experience without theory is blind, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play. Mario exhibits experience by crushing turds all day, but he exhibits theory by stating let's-a-go, keep it up baby. When Mario leaves his place of safety to stomp a turdy, he knows he may die, and yet for a man who can purchase a life with money, a life becomes a mere store of value, a tax that can't be paid for, much like how a rich man fuels any law with a fine as a price. We think of Mario as a hero, but he is simply a one-percenter of a more privileged variety, the life-kind, perchance. That was simply all the time we had for today. I will follow up next week to talk about Wattpad controversy though, so make sure to tune in on then. May you all stay safe out there, and toodaloo till next time! But I still have a special message for one of our listeners, so dear English teacher, stick around a little longer. So, this is obviously not my actual podcast, however, when I told my friends about this assignment, I was dared to submit the famous Mario essay that was posted on Reddit a while back, and it has been a running inside joke in my friend group for a good five months now, and I felt like you were a safe teacher to joke around with, and I also know you're into a lot of Nintendo games. I'm also being paid for this, so it was hard to turn down the offer. About what I said with the files being messed up or something, that was just an excuse for you to listen to both files, and an excuse for me to hand in two files, as I've done a proper version of the assignment, I promise. I'm sorry if I wasted your time, but I thought it would be funny, and I hope you appreciated my humor.
