I'm your host, Annie Madden, and today I'm joined by a very special guest, Madison Miller. Welcome to the podcast. Hey. Hey. So starting out, I'm kind of going to ask you a little bit about some of the music you love, specific artists, or just genres in general. Give me kind of a little overview of what you enjoy. Yeah. So my favorite genre is probably pop, quickly followed by country, and then I do enjoy R&B and rap and just a mixture of things depending on my mood. But yeah, I'd say I lean towards pop music just to get me in a good vibe and like enjoy the day, you know? And I feel like pop music is so great because there's so many, I feel like, smaller categories even in pop. You know, there's like sadder music, there's kind of fast, slow. So yeah, I think that's great. Yes. What are some of your favorite artists and, you know, why do you love them or how do you relate to them in certain ways? Okay, so my favorite artist of all time, you're never going to guess it, it's Taylor Swift. But yeah, I've always loved Taylor Swift since I was, I think around like maybe eight, I went to see her Fearless concert first. Yes. I just really liked her at a young age because of Love Story and Take It or Burn. Like, you know, at that age, you're just like, you're singing, you don't really know the lyrics, so you just like the beat. But as I got older, I kind of resonated and understood her lyrics more, especially as she also grew up as an artist. For sure. So like, seeing her transition from like Fearless to like Folklore has been amazing, even into Midnight and then her newest album coming out. So excited for it, the Tortured Poets department. Yeah, just seeing her evolution as an artist has been so amazing. I just love her. Totally. I'm so with you. I love Taylor Swift and being able to grow with her as she grows into her music, you get to kind of grow into that music taste as well. Start to understand her lyricism more as you grow older. And I think she has something that everyone can relate to. Yes, totally agree. And a few other artists that I like in the pop genre are Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, and Katy Perry, all queens. Yes, I love all of them, especially, I feel like in the last few years, Miley Cyrus has just been releasing banger after banger. I feel like she's always been that way. But like, I'm really appreciating a lot more. But yeah, you can't go wrong with any of them. I just love a pop girly at the end of the day. Yes, I agree with that. So you also stated that you really enjoy country music. So tell me a little bit about your favorite country artists. I know you grew up in Kentucky. Does that have any influence on why you enjoy country music? Or is it kind of a personal preference? Just tell me a little bit about that. Okay, I don't appreciate the stereotype of country just because I'm from Kentucky. But we'll... We'll move past. Yeah, we'll move past that. But yeah, I really like country music. I really like Zach Bryan. My boyfriend actually put me on to him. So credits to him. I really like... Credits to Derek. Yeah, credits to Derek. I really like Kelsea Ballerini, and Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs, and Maren Morris. Those are all great. I really have gotten into Kelsea Ballerini in the past, like a little bit of time when she came out with Penthouse. I really loved that. But I feel like growing up also, like I grew up kind of listening to country music. I think I listened to too much of it. So I started to fade away for a little bit. And then in the past about like a year or so, I've kind of gone back into it. So I totally understand the pop country girlies. We come together at the end of the day. Yes. Yes. So tell me some of the music that you don't really enjoy. And kind of what about it makes you not really enjoy it? Okay, I really don't like rock. Okay. You might come for me for that, but I really just don't enjoy it. Like even like old school rock, like kind of eagles stuff you don't really enjoy? No. Literally none of it. Okay, I can tolerate Journey, if that's even rock. I feel like it's on the border, but I get that. Like I like Journey. I can listen to them, that one song. Which one? I think it's like Believe In or something. Don't Stop Believing? Yeah. I can vibe to that song, but that's probably about it. I just really don't like the headbanging. The headbangers kind of scare me. Yeah. They kind of scare me, and I've seen like so many stories about how they like get naked on stage and stuff. So I just kind of like stray away from that. Like I'm a pop girlie. I'm going to stick to pop and Taylor Swift. You all can have your rock. I just will not be listening. Totally understand. My mom's boyfriend, Scott, as you know. Yes. He's got a good hairband headbanger song, so every time I go to drive his truck, it's blasting, that music. And I feel like I'm a little traumatized now because of it. So I'm with you. Not really into that stuff. But you know what? Have you heard of divorced dad rock music? No. What is that? Okay, that. Okay. I really can't think of the artist right now, but that's like a trend going on. But I actually do like the divorced dad rock genre. Divorced dad rock. Yeah, it's very niche. Okay. Yes. I'll have to give it a go. Take it a look. I saw it on TikTok. Did you hear that? Listeners, divorced dad rock. Give it a listen if you haven't heard yet. Yes. Just to give it a little something. Yes. I can't believe you haven't heard that. No. Okay. And then so you're not really into rock or and then you're really into country kind of R&B pop kind of vibes. Do you ever listen to like rap music at all? Yes. Okay. As an athlete, I love rap music to get hype. Yes. Everyone go listen to Do Rag Activity. Fire song. No, this is free promo. So this is not sponsored, but Do Rag Activity. Go give it a listen. I also really like Travis Scott and Trippie Redd and Lil Baby. Okay. Maybe, you know. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, before games and like before practice, love to listen to rap. Yes. And Jack Harlow. Oh, yeah. Because he's from Louisville. Gotta support him. Support local. Yes. Support local. Jack Harlow. Love it. Yes. So do you feel like any growing up, like not even like the state you lived in, but just the people that you surrounded yourself with, did they have any influence on what you listen to today? Or is it kind of like you made your own kind of music taste? Yeah. So I feel like it would be probably a mix. Okay. I've gotten to her on my own. Selena Gomez, Hannah Montana slash Miley Cyrus. Yes. All very influential in my younger days. That led me to really like pop music and that like feminine type of music, you know. But then, like I said earlier, Derek, my boyfriend, put me on to Zac Brian. Yeah. I've had a lot of people put me on to different artists. But ultimately, I do think I've found most of my favorite artists on my own. On your own. Yeah. I definitely do. I have to give credit where it's due. And I did not find them. Okay. Love it. So, and then my last question for you is going to be, how do you think that social media, especially TikTok, has influenced your taste or has added to it, taken away from it at all? Because I know a lot of people find new songs, new artists on TikTok. Has that happened to you? Yeah. So actually every day, I feel like a new TikTok song is stuck in my head. So then I'll go download it and it'll literally be like a mini like addiction almost to listen to that song. Like, I don't know, it's been a trend to be like, don't you take me home. You know, like I literally heard that on TikTok, went to Apple, downloaded it immediately and listened to that song for probably like a week straight. Like I, I get like hyper fixated on songs because of TikTok. Like I see the trends and I'm like, oh my gosh, that song is so good. Even though I'm only hearing a little snippet. Yeah. And I never would have heard the song without TikTok. Right. And like seeing those trends. So I really think TikTok really expands people's listening I guess. 100%. Yeah. And it really does get artists more support and it really helps them like break new barriers and reach new demographics. I think TikTok's honestly pretty good for artists, even though isn't it? Do, do they make money off of TikTok? I think very little money. And that's where Warner Music Group, they took all of their artists stuff off because they were a little exploited because of like the little amounts of money they got from it. Okay. But I know like no matter what, even if they don't make a ton of money off it, off of it, TikTok really helps smaller artists and just become more known and therefore they can make more money through streaming, physical album sales, things like that. Yes. Like I think Zach Bryan got more famous because of TikTok and like YouTube and Spotify or like, was it SoundCloud? Yeah, I think so. And then I know a bunch of artists like, who was that new pop artist that's really famous? Tate McRae. Oh, yeah. She has broke through because of TikTok, I feel. And Megan Maroney. Like TikTok has really like expanded them. Expanded. Yeah, for sure. Well, thank you so much for joining me today. I'm going to create a playlist based off of some of Madison's picks that she's talked about during this podcast and also some recommendations I might have that I think would kind of fit her niche and category of what she enjoys. Thank you for joining us today, Madison. It's been a pleasure. Thank you for having me. It's been so fun. And I hope you guys tune in to next week's episode. Have a great day, guys. Bye.
