Anne Askew

Anne Askew

Anne Askew, previously known as Anne Ayscough and later as Anne Kyme, was a notable English poet and Protestant during the early 16th century. Despite her talent and dedication to her faith, she faced immense persecution and was ultimately labeled a heretic. Anne's life took a tragic turn when she became the only recorded woman to endure both torture in the infamous Tower of London and the horrifying death by burning at the stake. Her story serves as a poignant reminder of the religious conflicts and injustices of her time.
