Henderson's nursing journey started with a diploma from the Army School of Nursing in 1921. After working for the Henry Street Visiting Nursing Service, she became a nursing instructor at a hospital in Virginia. She pursued further education and became a faculty member at Columbia University until 1948. Her journey began with a nursing diploma from the Army School of Nursing at Walter Reed Hospital in 1921.
