Bible (ASV) 31: Obadiah

American Standard VersionAmerican Standard Version

The Book of Obadiah is a short but significant part of both the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament in the Christian Bible. It is considered the shortest book, consisting of only one chapter. The author, believed to be a person named Obadiah, which means "servant or worshipper of the Lord," is classified as a "minor prophet" due to the brevity and prophetic nature of the writing. In this book, Obadiah foretells the complete destruction of the land of Edom by the Lord. He emphasizes that this destruction will be more severe than even a thief who destroys everything, as the Lord will cause all of Edom's allies to turn against them. The reason for such a harsh punishment is revealed in the following verses.
