Ray Jones, the editor of the sustainable fashion magazine ZUR, discusses his motivations for starting the magazine, which aims to combine fashion with sustainability and raise awareness about climate issues. The name ZUR was chosen to represent luxury and sophistication, with a focus on environmental and nature aspects. Ray also talks about the sustainable summer dress edit campaign, where they rented a dress from MyTurn instead of buying it, highlighting the benefits of renting clothes. Today we're going to be talking to Ray Jones, our editor, about his thoughts on the new launch of ZUR. So Ray, what made you want to start a sustainable fashion magazine? So I felt that I wanted to expand the world of fashion with sustainability. I saw a gap in the market for this project. One of its unique selling points being that it combines the world of fashion with sustainability. I just wanted to draw attention to the ongoing climate troubles we're experiencing at the moment. And I thought the best way to do so would be through the platform I have, being this magazine. Yeah, and almost alert its audience to the issue of global warming. Yeah, and I thought that by combining fashion and sustainability with the interest of the younger generation, and hopefully create more interest around the magazine in general. Wow, yeah, that's really great to hear. So why did you want to call it ZUR? Well, I wanted to have the name for the brand that represented my ideas for the magazine, and so decided to use ZUR, as I wanted the brand to resemble luxury and sophistication. So I used the French, as it means green, and therefore symbolises the environmental and nature aspects, as this was the main issue I wanted to raise. And yeah, just kind of put it at the forefront of the project. And also it's written in the feminine tense, so really emphasises the enticement, almost, of the female audience I'm looking to grasp. Okay, cool. So what were your thoughts on the sustainable summer dress edit campaign? Well, me and the team worked closely with Ronald, our photographer, to capture my idea in the best way possible, being that we chose certain camera angles and lighting to really highlight the model in the garment, as well as the costume department and I spoke about the kind of garment we needed for the shoot, and so decided that we should source the dress from MyTurn, which is a website where you can rent dresses, other clothes and all that sort of stuff. Absolutely brilliant, love the idea of it. Yeah, really great. We basically just rented the dress for the amount of time we needed it for, being like 40 quid or something like that, instead of buying it for 350 quid, which it would have been originally. So yeah, brilliant, love it.
