The speaker, Peyton Bruce, discusses integrating technology into a second-grade language arts lesson. He explains how the technology standard SC16C can be implemented alongside the RL23 language arts standard. He outlines three stages for creating a technologically integrated lesson plan: incorporating content area curriculum, adding technology curriculum through activities like creating a Google slide, and promoting higher-order learning skills through assessments like Google Forms. In the next episode, he will discuss documenting and assessing student work. Hi, my name is Peyton Bruce and welcome to the second episode of Teacher Podcast. I'm a current student in EDN 303 at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. Today I'm going to talk about the following standard, SC16C, which states, students communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating and using a variety of digital objects, such as visualizations, models, simulations, and how to implement this into a language arts standard such as RL23, which states, identifying the actions of the character in the story throughout. This will be a lesson plan taught for second grade. Throughout this episode, I will go through the stages of planning and implementing technology standard SC16C into the classroom with the help of RL23 standard. There are three different strands that you will need to take to creating a technologically integrated lesson plan. The first step is the content area curriculum. As second grade, we can read a book as called The Amazing Life Cycle of Butterflies. Adding in technology curriculum, the students could create a Google slide about the different stages of butterflies to give an example of what they have learned. And number three, higher order learning skills. An exit slip can be given to the students through the form of Google Forms to see what the students have learned throughout the day. All of these stages will bring technology and integration into the classroom. Today, I talked about integrating technology and how I plan to use them in three stages in my classroom. In the next episode of Teacher Podcast, I will give an example of how to document students' work and how to assess my students. Thanks for listening. Bye. Hi there. Welcome to Teacher Podcast. My name is Ashley Swisher-Arnold, and I'm a current student in EDN 414 through the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. Today, I'm going to be discussing information about integrating arts into the classroom. I'm going to continue talking about the standard I mentioned in our last podcast, THPR 412B. And just to refresh your mind, this standard states, alter voice and body to expand and articulate nuances of a character in a guided drama experience. In addition to the standard through theater and performing with the art standard, I'm also going to talk about a language arts standard. That standard I've chosen is RL23, and that's identify the actions of the characters in a story. I decided to use a second grade classroom because I've done a lot of field experience this semester in a second grade classroom. Through this episode, I'll go through the stages of planning to implement the art standard THPR 412B into the classroom with the second grade North Carolina state standard RL23. I'm going to go through the steps that you might need to take in order to ensure that you have an arts integrated lesson. For planning an arts integrated lesson, which is a lesson that furthers the understanding of students, there are three strands to your lesson that you will need. The first is content area curriculum, or in our case, the standard RL23. We can do this by reading a book about butterflies, such as The Amazing Life Cycles of Butterflies, Look and Wonder. The second strand is art curriculum, or in our case, the drama standard, where we would have students act out the life cycle of a butterfly, which includes changing their voices through the stages of a butterfly, and three would be higher order thinking skills. In our case, we could do this where we ask students to evaluate their performance. Through these stages, you will bring a clearer picture of arts integration into the classroom. Today on Teacher Podcast, I talked about integrating arts and how to plan them into the three strands of a lesson in the classroom. On the next episode of our podcast, I'm going to give an example of how to document student work and how to assess students. Through this, I am citing integrated with arts across the content areas by Lisa Donovan and Louise Pestale. Thanks for tuning in, guys. ♪♪♪
