Let's get motivated. Hello, hello, everyone. Welcome back to the one and only Overcome and Become podcast. This is your host, Allie Hanson, and I am so excited to be here tonight. Let me tell you the setup we got going on. I'm in my room. I'm all cozied in my little chair with my minky blanket, and I sure do have. I know you guys are going to come at me for this because this is kind of, well, I say kind of. This is a motivational health podcast, but I may or may not be sipping on Mountain Dew. Something else you guys aren't going to like to hear is, it is 10 o'clock p.m. So you guys are like, you're sipping on Mountain Dew at 10 o'clock p.m.? Yes, I am, because it is Tuesday night. This podcast needs to be posted in the morning, and I'm tired of slacking on the job, so here we are. We're going to get it done. I'm pretty sure everyone in my house is sleeping, so hopefully I don't wake them up, but I am honestly so excited for this podcast. I was writing the notes for it, getting it all ready, and I'm just ready, but we have to do our little life recap because, of course, you have to know what's going on in my life. Let me tell you a little bit about it. Since I talked to you last, my life has been a little bit crazy, let me tell you. So I went on two dates, had so much fun. The boy I went on a date with, like, it was just so fun. The first date, we went and played pickleball, we went for a hike, we played mini golf, we played card games, made pizza, watched a movie, like, we really did it all. The second date, we went fishing and watched the stars for a minute because I've only seen one shooting star in my whole life, fun fact, and he was like, oh my gosh, I've seen hundreds, maybe even thousands, so I was like, all right, well, I guess I need to see one, so we did that time of my life. That was super, super fun. And then, what else has been going on? School has been going really good. I'm actually very proud of myself because if you don't know this about me, I am not a homework girly, okay? I want to be so bad, but I'm just not. But guess who has been keeping up with their homework? Guess who didn't have any homework over the weekend? Me. And guess who got all of her homework done today? Me. So I'm super happy about that. I'm really proud of myself. And then tomorrow, the day this goes live, I go to St. George to get an echocardiogram done on my heart. If you don't know what that is, it's basically an ultrasound for your heart. No, this is not abnormal. This is just a follow-up appointment for me, so we're hoping that everything comes back all clear and good. But with going to St. George, that probably means pedicures, a little shopping, some good food. I get to see my grandma and grandpa, and it's going to be a good time. So really, everything has been going pretty dang good in my life recently, and I just can't wait to see what else the future has to hold. I will tell you, I am ready for summer. Like, I want to be out of school. I just want to be working and soaking up the lake and sun as much as possible. But at the same time, it's kind of crazy because I'm going to be a junior this year, which means I'm going to be a senior next year. So that is just crazy to me. But without further ado, let's get into this episode. Hello, hello, everyone. Let's get into it. So as you saw by the title of this episode, we are going to be talking about how to get out of a rut and how to feel re-inspired. Now, how did I come up with this? Well, as you can imagine, I have been in a rut myself. I have been feeling like I've been lacking a lot of motivation, a lot of self-discipline. I feel like I haven't been keeping up with my routines, and honestly, I just haven't been feeling my best. And that is my main goal out of life is to feel my best. So I thought, why not chat about it? Because if you have a podcast, you might as well chat about the things that are on your heart and on your mind. So I'm going to give you about 10, like, tips, tricks, whatever you want to call it, to being able to get out of a rut and feel re-inspired. So let's start it off strong. Number one is clean and reset your space. I cannot express to you how well this works. And I'm not just talking about, like, oh, I'm going to pick up my clothes off the floor. No. Like, do your laundry. Fold your clothes. Hang up your clothes. Like, put them away. Wipe down stuff. Clean it up. Wash your bedding. Wash your towels. Spray some room spray. Turn on a wax melter or light a candle. Like, really freshen up your space because what this is going to do is help give you a clear mind and it's almost going to give you kind of that, like, New Year's feel. You know how in the beginning of the year you have all of this motivation and you're like, yeah, I'm going to go for it. I'm going to freaking get it. I'm going to accomplish all my goals. And then slowly, as each day goes by, you lack more and more motivation. Well, what this does is it gives you that fresh feeling start, which our minds absolutely love, and so naturally it's going to help us get into a better routine. So that's number one. Number two is either rewrite or redo your routines because oftentimes people get bored. I wouldn't say, like, super often, but every couple months I would say people need a little revamp and refresh. So when it comes to your routines, you, maybe you are someone who can stick with a routine for years and years and years, but a lot of people at least need a couple things changed. Maybe they need things switched in order. So instead of waking up and, I don't know, maybe you do, like, all of your journaling and your to-do list before you work out, now maybe you work out and then do that stuff. So then it gives you that new routine feel. And another thing I like to do is write out my routines because a lot of times I forget some of the things that I want to do, some of the things that I want to incorporate into my routine, and if you have an iPhone or even if you have an Android, you should have a notes app on there, which, by the way, I use all the time. I'm actually reading it right now because it's what my podcast notes are on, but I am able to just pick up my phone and I'm able to look at my routine and be like, oh, yeah, that's when I wanted to do this. So that is a great way to help you remember. Moving on, number three is plan your days. Now, I'm not talking like minute for minute plan your days because that can be super overwhelming and oftentimes you will get less done because you just feel so overwhelmed and you're like, oh, my gosh, I'm just done. I'm just not going to do anything. So don't do that. What I mean by plan your days is look at your days, be like, okay, I either need to do this extra work today, I'm going to have this homework, maybe I'm waking up extra early, so I'm going to set my workout clothes out, or maybe I know I have to be to work or school early, so I'm going to set my clothes out so I can be ready to go. Little things like that are going to be super beneficial, so that helps take stress off your plate throughout the day, but it's not too much to where you just end up not doing anything at all. Number four is make yourself a priority and don't give yourself an option not to take care of yourself. I know that was a mouthful, but if you don't know this girl, her name is Joellen Woods. She actually lives in Page, Arizona, where I live, and she is a phenomenal woman. We got to have her on here actually a couple episodes ago, and it was super fun. So by the way, if you haven't listened to that one, definitely go check it out. But more recently, as she's gotten older throughout the years, she has realized how important health is to her, and she really wanted to make it a priority to start moving her body. She said it was always easy for her to just skip the gym, skip a run, skip a walk, skip any form of physical activity because she's always naturally been slimmer. So when you already kind of have the results physically, you don't have a lot of motivation. You don't have a lot of drive to do physical activity. And then she realized that physical activity was so much farther and had so much more depth than just what you looked like on the outside. So she posted a story on her Instagram the other day talking about how old Joellen would have just skipped the gym because her son was getting his braces off early in the morning. So she had an early morning appointment. She said old Joellen would have just skipped the gym and been like, oh, I don't have time for it. But she was like, now because my health is a priority, I am a priority, and I haven't given myself an option not to believe that, not to think that. I just did it. I did it earlier. I worked it into my schedule, and I was able to move my body even with having that early morning appointment. So that is your sign to just do it, even if it's short. And I want you guys to remember, sometimes with physical activity, we look at it as such a big, scary, demanding task. But really, it can be 15 minutes. Like 15 minutes, go for a walk. Go do a little ab surrogate. Whatever you want to do, just get it done. Number five is find forms of activity that make you feel your best. So something that we have talked about so much and something that you really should understand is that different forms of physical activity are going to make people feel different. And that different is not bad at all. That different is actually really good. So weightlifting makes a lot of people feel really good. Pilates makes a lot of people feel really good. Running makes a lot of people feel really good. Walking simply makes people feel really good, even sports. I know a lot of, if you're in high school, if you're in college, a lot of people are on sports teams, so that's their form of physical activity. And I want you guys to remember that just because you're not, like, hitting the gym one day doesn't mean you're not getting physical activity in because it really is what works best for you. Coming from someone like me, I am a total gym rat. Like, I love to weightlift. And so that's where I get most of my physical activity in. But it also varies on the day. Some days I really feel like a walk. My muscles are super tired, super sore, but I still want to move my body, so I walk. Some days I want more body weight or I don't have a lot of equipment, so I do Pilates. But my main source of physical activity is weightlifting. For someone else, that could look completely different. But the reason I do it is because I love it. It makes me feel my best. It makes me feel strong. It makes me feel confident. It makes me feel happy. And that's what's most important. So find physical activity that you love. Number six is don't be so hard on yourself. This is one that I feel like I have really been struggling with lately. I feel like I've been really hard on myself. And that's something that I wish I didn't have to admit, but I am admitting it because I'm trying to own up to – I don't know how to phrase it. Like, not necessarily mistakes, but own up to what I'm doing more. And it is so hard to stay consistent if you are so hard on yourself. If you ever think about that, like, if you're constantly critiquing yourself for the things you're doing, you're never going to be able to stick with a routine. You're never going to be able to take care of yourself and be consistent to the best of your abilities. So I'm not saying just nonchalantly, you know, do whatever you want, but you don't have to critique yourself for every little thing that you're doing. Now, if there's something you want to get better at, sure. Why not figure out how to get better? But you don't have to bully yourself for that. I want you guys to actually think about that. I know this is a little bit off topic, but maybe you have a younger sibling, an older sibling. I know some people are only child, so maybe you have a parent, a friend, whoever it may be in your life, that you really, really care about. Now, think if they got bullied verbally or even physically. Think about that. You would hate it, and you would want to stick up for them, and you would want to do everything in your power to defend them and protect them. So why are you bullying yourself? Did you ever think about that? So stop being so hard on yourself, and it's going to make it so much easier to stay consistent. Number seven is review your goals. So I know a lot of us write New Year's resolutions and probably have, but maybe you haven't even wrote any goals yet. So this one can go one of two ways. Either review your goals and really feel reinspired by the original visions that you have, or if you haven't written any goals, write some down because then it always gives you something to work towards. And I was given a new perspective on goals actually this past Sunday because I was sitting in my Young Women's class for church, and I have always felt like I've been more of a long-term goal kind of girl. Like I just wanted to not necessarily reach bigger things, but things that are going to take longer to attain. But then my best friend was talking about how she almost loves setting daily goals because she feels like she can reach her highest potential, her best self, off of those daily goals that she makes. So obviously this isn't like, oh, I want a six-pack today, because that's just not realistic. That's not going to happen. So she sets smaller goals that are going to help her be able to become her best self. So if you are someone who does like smaller, shorter goals, if that's easier for you to attain, set those goals. But then if you're someone like me who maybe likes a good six-month-long challenge, you're able to do that as well. And that's not to say you can't have a combination or a mixture of both, because you absolutely can, and I think they can both be so beneficial. But that is something that might be kind of interesting to learn about yourself. Moving on to number eight is identify why you're in a rut in the first place. This is going back to kind of owning up to what you're doing, having accountability and responsibility for what you do, what you say, how you act, all of that good stuff. So if you can identify a point that put you in a rut, you will be able to attack that and be like, all right, how am I going to avoid that next time? Moving on to number nine, and this is one that I'm actually super proud of because I've been doing this a lot lately, is go outside and breathe fresh air. When I say this, it will bring life back into your soul, I promise. And in most places, summer's coming back around, that warm weather, that sun that you can feel on your skin, so you don't have to go outside in the freezing cold. I know it's not like that everywhere, but if you can go outside, get sunlight in your eyes, get the grass between your toes, breathe in that fresh air, you are going to feel so rejuvenated and so alive. To finish this off, number 10 is be loyal to yourself and stop letting yourself down. So if you have, let's say, a business partner, when you're in business, it's really important that if you have a business partner, you get your job done because not only are you relying on yourself, but someone else is relying on you. So I want you to think, if you were only to rely on yourself, like you were to rely on someone else, you wouldn't want to let them down. So don't let yourself down. If you say you're going to do something, do it. If you set your alarm for a specific time in the morning, stop snoozing it, just get up because you told yourself you're going to do that, and oftentimes people can teach themselves a lot of things. So if I'm laying in bed, and I do snooze my alarm sometimes, I know I do, it's like my least favorite habit that I have, but you are showing yourself that you can't rely on yourself to get up at the time that you set your alarm for, or if you set a water goal that day, or if you set a mental goal that day, and you are not able to hold that accountability, you are not able to achieve that, you're showing yourself that you are unreliable to yourself, and that just teaches you that lesson. So that's something to learn, is really be able to figure out how you can rely on yourself. Now, I hope you all loved this episode. It was super, super fun. Sorry if I'm talking a little bit more monotone and quiet. Like I said, it's almost 10.30 here. Oh my gosh, it's almost 10.30, and my family is sleeping, so that's why I had to talk a little quiet. But I hope you all loved this episode. I cannot wait to talk to you guys next week for another very exciting episode. Bye. . . .
