The space race was seen as a competition for technology and innovation, but it also laid the foundation for future cooperation between the United States and the Soviet Union in space exploration. Some questions to consider are the advancements made by both countries during the space race and how these advancements have influenced current technological output. Additionally, why did the United States decrease its focus on space exploration after the moon landing? It seems that after the space race, the US has not made significant progress in outer space and has eased up on exploration. The reasons for this are unclear. So to kind of reflect here on the space race, it was mostly seen to be about a contest for technology and innovation, but it also should be pointed out that this laid the groundwork for future cooperation in space exploration between the United States and the Soviet. And some questions I do have here for the class are about, so what were some advancements in the United States and Russia during the space race? So all of this progress that both countries made in during this time, how did that play out in some of the technological output we see today? And then also, why did the United States let up on space exploration after the war? It does seem like after this moon landing, here we are now what, 50 years later? And just the United States seems to not have made much more progress in outer space, kind of had to let up after finishing that space race for sure, and seems to have eased up on exploration. So why is this?
