The teacher instructs the students to copy down their homework and agenda, then tells them to go on LexiCorp while waiting for other students to arrive. The teacher announces that they will be learning about contractions and shows a YouTube video explaining different types of contractions. The teacher gives examples of contractions and passes out a worksheet for the students to complete. The teacher emphasizes the importance of writing their names on the paper and collects the completed worksheets. The students are then given an exit ticket to write down three contractions they remember. The teacher mentions that the exit ticket will be graded. After completing the exit ticket, the students will be going over vocabulary words and the story of the week. Hi, good morning students. Please sit down and copy down your homework and your agenda. And once you're done with that, you can go on LexiCorp and do that while we wait for our students this morning. Thank you very much. One, two, three, all eyes on me. Thank you. I'm going to put the announcements on. Please have your attention. And remember, if you're focused, I'll give you some kickboard points. And then we'll start our lesson for the day. For grammar this week, we are going to learn about contraction. A contraction is a word made up of two words that were put together. An apostrophe takes the place of letters that were left out of the contraction. For example, the words can't, won't, and am are contractions. Now we're going to watch a YouTube video explaining different types of contractions. Please be engaged so I can give you more kickboard points. And be attentive. That's garbage. Can't be the case. Contraction, contraction, help you read and write. Contraction, contraction, I'll rap and tell you why. You start with one or two words, then take one or more letters away. And it's always an apostrophe that takes the letters place. They shorten words or put two words together. That's what they do. Learn and use contractions and you'll see they're really cool. Here are some words we're going to shorten and make contractions. Say them with me. Do not, don't. Will not, won't. She will, she'll. He will, he'll. Has not, hasn't. He is, he's. She is, she's. Here are some more contractions. Could not, couldn't. Would not, wouldn't. I had, I'd. I will, I'll. Who had, who'd. Who will, who'll. I am, I'm. I have, I've. I'm going to pass out this worksheet. Please, students, do this in 10 minutes. I'm going to have the timer up on the board. It says decide which contraction should be used in each sentence. Write the correct word on the line. One, I'll isn't there a good movie at the mall. Two, my mom says that we can't it's watch that movie. Three, let's isn't go shopping at the mall instead. Four, I had fun even though I can't, wasn't allowed to see the movie. And five, I hope we will go back again next week. Please remember to circle the correct option and write it on the blank. You guys have 10 minutes once it is passed out. Thank you very much. Work independently. If I see you working independently and staying on task with using your time wisely, I will give you extra kickback points as well. Mac and cheese. Please remember to restate the sentences in your head if you forgot them already. If you say both words in two different sentences, maybe it will help you out a little bit. And you can choose the correct one. You have to choose which one makes sense. Awesome class. That is the bell. The time is up. Sophia is going to start collecting the papers. Please do not forget to write your first and your last name on the paper or your grade or your paper will not be graded. Again, please do not forget to write your first and your last name or your paper will not be graded. You will get a zero. As she is collecting the papers, I will be passing out your exit tickets. Now that I have all of your papers, we are going to go to our next activity which is your exit ticket on top of your desk. Just a reminder that a contraction is a word made of two words that were put together. An apostrophe takes the place of letters that were left out of the contraction. With the video that we just watched and the worksheet that I gave you, please give me three different contractions that you remember on the exit ticket. I will give you guys about five minutes to do that activity and then I will collect it. This will be going on your PowerSchool for a grade so I can see how you guys learned today. After this, we will be taking out our Maggi books so we can go over our vocabulary words and our story of the week.
