"I am in Control Day" encourages people to take control of their lives and prioritize and organize things to feel more in control and happier. "Take a Walk in the Park Day" promotes investing in one's health through walking, sharing facts about the benefits of walking and mentioning the largest park in the world. The host shares personal experiences and encourages listeners to add to their peace by practicing these activities. Hi, and welcome to my podcast, SUP, Think, Understanding, and Peace. I am your host, Katy Beryl Fine, and I am happy you are here with me on this day, today. I'm excited because this is a portion of my podcast titled, Peace by Peace, where we get to add to our peace of mind, body, and soul. I will take a virtual look worldwide each month and see how other people celebrate their mental health and awareness. This month, we have talked about the purpose of the podcast, which is to learn how to maintain our peace, even through our struggles, and I spoke on secrets and the sometimes deadly consequences that can come about. I am excited to grow and learn from others and you, so let's dive in. The first one I found is called, I am in Control Day. This is one of the first lessons I learned when I found out about my mother's secret. I learned that I can only control me. I am in Control Day is celebrated yearly in March, and the purpose is to encourage people to take control of their lives. The genesis of this came about from the assassination attempt of the President of the United States on March 30, 1981. The Secretary of State was in a press conference updating the press and the world on the President's condition, and he said, I am in control. Initially, it was taken as him trying to take over, and the press and the world took it as an insult. But eventually, it evolved into us people learning to take control of our lives. So the goal was get one's life in order and to organize, plan, and prioritize. This in turn would give the person a feeling of being in control, making them happy and fresh, and to just start practicing keeping things in order. I've actually have practiced this and have gotten some great results from keeping my life in relative order. Sometimes it's not even a big thing. Sometimes I'll look at my desk, and it just looks gray. I have paper everywhere. Some pens work. Some pencils don't work. And so once I clean up my desk, I feel like my mind is not cluttered, and I feel more in control and more orderly. So sometimes you just may look at a section of your life or a section in your home, and you made it to be your closet. Maybe you look in your closet, and you go, you know what? This closet is just out of control. And you may go in and start putting all the colors together or getting rid of clothes you haven't worn in a while. But whatever that is, that is a part of I am in control day. It doesn't have to mean you have to look at your whole house and do it. Just take bits and pieces. So that is my advice on that. The second thing I found was called take a walk in the park day. This is celebrated in March annually as well. I think March 30th. And the purpose is to invest in your health. So here are some facts about walking. I've already said it. You can invest in your health. Walking doesn't take a whole lot of money. Walking in the morning is best for the metabolism. 6,000 steps can improve your health. But 10,000 steps can help you lose weight if that's where you're at. The average walking speed is 3.5 miles. The average tennis shoe can last 500 miles. And wait for it. To burn off the calories of a bag of M&M's, now they didn't say size. They said you need to walk the length of a football field. And so naturally, I needed to know how long a football field was. And then it's actually 120 yards or 360 feet. I don't know if that's worth it. I just need to know how big the M&M bag is. So remember, this is called take a walk in the park day. So then I looked up park. Greenlands National Park is the biggest park in the world. It covers 604,000 miles. Now that's plenty of space to walk. There are 423 national parks. You know, when I read this, it brought me back to when I used to walk every morning. I would walk with friends. I would walk by myself. I would walk in the park. I would walk my neighborhood around tracks. And so just researching this, I'm thinking I need to get back to my walking. Because I've cut it down. Like, I'm going to be honest. I don't walk no more. I do more yoga, stretching. But I need to get back outside and start back walking again. Because when I used to, it brought me so much peace to connect with nature. And just to enjoy what God had made. And I used to walk and look at what I know for sure, just God. Only God could have created it. So I would look at the sky. I would look at the clouds. The sun. You know, listen to the birds. It was just so, oh my gosh, just a really happy place. The weather is warming up, so I have no excuse. So I think I'm going to commit to three days out of the week. You know, I had gotten up to about an hour, but I'm going to be really realistic with myself. If I can do three days out of the week for at least 20 minutes, walk in my neighborhood, I think that will be a great start. So what about you? I hope this segment, Peace by Peace, has either inspired, motivated, or encouraged you to positively add to your peace. And as always, thank you for joining me on this day, today. Grace and peace. Peace.
