The three mules Tim befriended carried him out of the barren desert back to civilization to a farmhouse where the animals originated. A crippled farmer and his wife, Bernardo and Maria, took him in and all but adopted Tim as they'd recently lost their own son to the desert. He accompanied them to a small church where he met their pastor, who spoke fluent English. After confessing the crime he and Hect committed to the pastor, Tim decided to go back home and face the music, as they say.
