The meeting between Dean Tytwad and the sheriff has turned contentious and only grows more intense as they talk. More and more accusations mount against the Dean regarding his stinginess toward his family which he denies and tries to justify as merely frugality. The sheriff finally arrests him for child neglect and at the trial the Dean acts as his own lawyer and astonishes the court by calling himself as his first witness.
