A group of friends on the Top Time Podcast discuss the hardest sports to play. They mention baseball, water polo, jousting, mixed martial arts (MMA), F1 racing, and soccer goalkeeping as contenders. There is a debate about which sport is the hardest and the easiest. Some argue that water polo is the easiest, while others suggest jousting or soccer goalkeeping. MMA and F1 racing are also considered challenging due to the physical demands and risks involved. Hello, my name is Lexi Akoi. Hello, my name is Ethan Jaffar. My name is Julien Shafaro. My name is Miguel Ibarra. My name is Mario Rodriguez. My name is Eric Ramirez. And this is Top Time Podcast. Okay, so today we're going to be talking about sports and entertainment. And we're going to start off with talking about what do you think is the hardest sport. The first person talking or saying their opinion is Mario. Mario. So, first thing to me, I think the hardest sport to play is probably baseball. I say baseball because of how fast you got to be and how little reaction time you get. Especially when you're actually batting, I think the reaction time that an average batter has is like .2 or .3 seconds, less than the blink of an eye. And to think that you have to actually get your arm to fully swing and have that much power to actually hit it, to get on base, it's really hard to do. And it may seem like really easy to the average person, but when you're actually there, getting pitched at, it goes really fast. And I've seen, because I've been up close to like 90 or 100 miles per hour baseball, being pitched, it goes by like an instant. It's really hard to track and capture. I just read something that the average reaction time is .8 seconds. That's still pretty fast. .8 seconds? Yeah, I just looked it up. It's still pretty fast. That's like, that's not true. That's .8 seconds. What does it say, what does it say? Maybe that's not 50 miles per hour. 50 miles per hour? We're talking about major league baseball. Yeah, major league baseball, you're getting like 80, 90, 100. Average pitch for major league baseball is between probably 85 and 100. Yeah. I'm just guessing off of that. I don't know, I don't think baseball is the hardest though. Because you don't have to be really fit, like in order to be in the professional league. Like you just got, okay, like the reaction time, okay. But like, okay, goalies also have to have fast reaction times. Surely not that fast, but. Do you believe goalies are the hardest? Being a goalie is harder than being a batter, I think. I guess so. Because, yeah, it is, it is. Because batters, like the ball is coming either in like a two-feet diameter or like square. So you know where the ball is going to go. So it's not like insanely hard. You don't know where the ball is going. Also, think about like, NASCAR, you're going like 200 miles per hour. That's faster than a 90 per hour baseball. Imagine that reaction speed of having to listen to what people are saying in your ear, look at what everyone else is doing. Yeah, you're going in a continuous track. Not in K-1 formula. It's a different track. Okay, Ethan, what do you think is the hardest one? I think it's water polo. Oh. It's like volleyball, but you're treading in water while doing it. Water polo is, you can hold on to the ball. What if you don't have the ball? You're just treading water and you're having to move throughout the water. It's like old people can tread water. But like you're doing another sport on top of it. I wouldn't say. And you're jumping in and out of the water while in the water. It's like handball in water. You can hold on to the ball. You don't always have to let it go immediately once you get it. Hey, baseball takes nine hours because you guys don't score. Okay, same with football. Football can take up to like three hours. Okay, but football is interesting. It's like the same as mountains. Okay, Wesley, what do you think is the hardest sport? What I was originally thinking when I thought of this question, what I was thinking, what did I say it was? Jousting. I said jousting. And this is because, listen to the fact. Yes. I don't know why you're looking at me like that. You have to ride the horse. You need to learn how to ride the horse. And then you have like the little sword, the little spear. You're riding the horse and you stab the other guy at the same time. Like having that kind of like hand-eye coordination is kind of crazy because you have to pay attention. That's like driving a car and shooting at someone all the time. Think about that. During a drive-by, think about that. It's really someone else in the car doing that. So like having to do that at the same time and hitting someone else. Okay, I can hear you saying it, but you're riding the horse in a straight line. Like it doesn't take – I can ride a horse. See, I'm predictable. Those horses have been trained for years. They've been abused. Like I can ride a horse in a straight line, sure, but I guess it's kind of – And also in jousting, if the horse moves off the track, it causes a fault and they redo it. Okay, you said that was your original thought, so what do you think now? I have no clue. Oh, you still think it's jousting? I think it's jousting, yeah. Okay, Miguel, what do you think? I'll say it's kind of obvious, but mixed martial arts. It's really difficult in every way possible. And to get acknowledged and to get to like a big league, like the UFC is one of the biggest leagues, one of the biggest competitions in mixed martial arts. It's really hard to get in there. And then obviously the consequences, like you're losing. You lose a lot. You're risking a lot, your health, physical health and mental health. Like you're pretty much risking your whole life to play the sport. So, yeah, I feel like that's the hardest part. No rebuttals? I mean, I agree, but like are you also including like jiu-jitsu in that? Yeah, it's mixed martial arts. So like UFC fights. What about boxing? No, MMA is way harder than boxing. Boxing is the same thing. It's a mental strain. It's not the same thing at all. You don't think like you don't have the same mental… You're a lot more protected in boxing though. A lot more protected. Like if you get knocked down, you have time to recover. And like if you get knocked down in MMA… They're still hitting you. Yeah, they're still hitting you. And then, bro, MMA is the full body, legs included. Yeah, but there's kickboxing. Okay, it's not full body. It's like MMA is boxing, wrestling, jiu-jitsu. It's literally everything. Okay, Eric, what do you think is the hardest part? So, Miguel stole my answer actually. I was going to say mixed martial arts as well. Because basically everything he just said. Like there's so much risk. There's so much risk. Or like little gain. Especially like when people are doing it for… Oh yeah, no, sides and stuff. But then UFC also… UFC fighters also do it. Very poor pay. Yeah, that's true. That's true. Okay, so MMA too. Is that it? Yeah. Okay. I always thought MMA. But right now, I'm either between MMA or F1. F1 racing. Because he said the NASCAR. And that's kind of like the same. But NASCAR is just a circle. Well, NASCAR… NASCAR is just a circle. If you see the crashes, it's because they lost reaction time. Because you have people speaking in your ear. You have to worry about the wheels of the car. And you're going like 250 miles per hour. Yeah, it's reaction time and also just handling that G-force. Yeah, you know, the neck training that they have to go through is crazy. The neck training. Okay. Okay, what do you think, out of all the ones said, is the easiest sport? Water polo. No, you're treading water. Water polo is the easiest sport. You're treading water playing volleyball the whole time. It's not. You go out and swim. I feel like it's… Wait, no. It's not even… It's really tiring. I remember it. But I feel like it's the easiest out of them all. Yeah, it's hard. Jousting. Jousting, you're going straight and poking. Okay, jousting might be the easiest. No, it's not. You're going straight and poking. Okay, jousting is more dangerous than water polo, but… They're wearing full metal the whole time. Bro, it's like a horse. Like, you're getting impaled. I, like, taught… Okay. At water polo, you're in the water. You can drown. No professional water polo is, like, bad enough to drown accidentally. Okay, no good jouster is going to get hurt by a horse accidentally. No. The horse doesn't hurt the person. Like, look, look, look. Look how, like, they have to… It's like soccer. Okay, water polo, yeah. First of all, your facts were wrong. He was right. It's nothing like volleyball. It is. Because you're hitting it over a net. No, you're not. There's a net inside the water, and you throw it in the water. Water polo's like, throw the ball into the net. Same thing. Wait, did you… Do you know what sport you're talking about? Yeah. It's like, it's the same thing. It's, like, it's the same concept with soccer. You're moving around in the water. Yeah, water polo is hard, for sure, because, like, you've got to be real fit for that, too. You have to be swimming, reaching out for the ball. Something, like, soccer players are supposed to do, but they don't. There's no goalie. Yeah, no, there is a goalie. In water polo? Wait, do they just stay underwater the whole time? No, like, they can't have water the whole time. Okay, shedding water is not super hard. When you're focusing on other stuff, and you're trying to, like, swim over to something, it's going to be hard. Okay. Okay, for sure we all agree water polo is hard, but I think it is the easiest. Jousting is way easier. No, hold on. Jousting or water polo. While you were on the topic of goalkeepers, I would actually like to change my answer to a soccer goalkeeper. And I say that… That's the hardest sport? I… No, wait. No, hold on. I would say that because, like, the pressure, you're under pressure the entire match. Like, everything, a lot of it is dependent on you. I like to use the example of Andre Onana of Manchester United. Everyone blames him for his mistakes and him conceding the goals, right? But a lot of it is really not his fault. It's the defenders as well. Getting the ball past the strikers, the midfielders, and the defenders, and then eventually reaching you as well. That's really, like, stressful for you. And you have to, like… And it's a big goal too. It's not small. So you have to know which direction to go to. And the reaction time as well. That's a big part in all of the sports that you guys described. Having that reaction time to take the ball and keep it out of the goal, I feel like that's really stressful. And it's hard. Really hard to do. Do you think it's the hardest position in soccer? Absolutely. I think striker is the hardest position. Oh, no. It's not. No, it's… Because you're warning… No, no, no. It's simply because if you're a striker and you make a mistake, it's fine. Like, you can make a mistake as a striker. You can't make a mistake as a goalkeeper. Exactly. You would lose the game if you make a mistake as a goalkeeper. Wow. Okay. Okay. Okay, my next question. Some of you already talked about it, but it's kind of similar. What do you think is the hardest to be a professional in? Because you said it was something like that for MMA. How it's like you don't get a lot of recognition. Basketball. Basketball. Because there's only five positions on the court the whole time. So there's a lot of limited spots. Yeah, that's true. Because it's not like football. And it's not like soccer where there's 11 players. And same thing with football. 11 players on both sides, offense and defense. It's not the same as soccer. But with football, you have 22 players, 53 on a roster. But that gives a lot of entry ways. Yeah. What was your question? Which one is hardest to become, to enter into the professional level? I would say basketball as well. But also football too. Because those drafts. Yes. Those drafts is rough, bro. But there's a lot of players. There are 52 players in a team. 53. And there's only 32 teams. 53. That's a lot. Also, the big thing for basketball for me that I kind of agree with you is that the requirements just to be at that level, first of all, you can't be below like 5'11", bro. Well, there's 10 players. There's 10 players, but there's a reason why they're considered insane. And with basketball, you have to go to a top college to make it into the league. Right. In football, you can be any height. If you're short, running back. If you're tall, big, you can be a defense. And the thing with football, there's so many positions you can be. And often players will change positions to better their luck on getting into the NFL. But with basketball, a lot of times your position is based on your height. Exactly. Like LeBron James is a power forward slash small forward because of his height. And Giannis, center, power forward because of his height. But Stephen Curry is a point guard because of his height. What do you think, Mario? What do you think as an artist? To get into? Yeah. Definitely not baseball. I wasn't going to say that. Okay, okay, okay. Uh... You can mic me on that one. Do you have one? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I actually want to change my answer. Not for the last one, but I wouldn't say mixed martial arts. It's hard to be original because obviously you need to be good. You can't just be bad. But it kind of has a lot to do with personality because the promoters are going to want to sell. Kind of like Conor McGregor. He's good. He's a very good fighter. But it's mostly how he is. He portrays himself and how he really has this cocky persona. And people really look up to that. But personality really plays into becoming professional. And it's not only how good you are. So what is the hardest? I would say basketball. I would say basketball. If you're not a certain height, you're automatically out. You really need to train really, really hard. So I would say basketball. What do you think, Eric? I was going to say MMA because... Huh? Because the risks coming up to being in professional MMA. There's so many risks that could happen and you wouldn't be compensated for them. Like your first early fights or something, you could get injured. And that's your whole career. Same thing with basketball. Same thing with any sport really. Derrick Rose tore his ACL after two years and he's now just on the bench the whole time. You're not the same after an injury in any sport. Same thing with football. Aaron Rodgers tore his ACL. What did you say, Aaron Rodgers? Hazard. Hazard. No, but MMA is still like... The injuries you could get in it is more life-threatening. Oh, right. Yeah, for sure. That's brain damage. Yeah. Football gets CTE. Wait, wait, wait. Okay, so what do you think? You still have some sort of profession in football. I actually wanted to talk about the most dangerous sport later. But what do you think is the hardest in being professional? Basketball. Basketball? Yeah. See, that's why I couldn't make it in the league. I hurt my knee. Okay, what about... I know there's some downsides to this, but you also have to think about soccer. And how many players are playing soccer? How many players are playing soccer? The competition is like none other when it comes to soccer. It's in every single country. Basketball's not in every single country. But also, the thing with that, some people, they genuinely get lucky when they get drafted to a team. Or taken to a team. Some people, they're garbage, bro. Look at... Hazard. Okay, no, shut up. Hazard, he actually has skill. He actually has stuff like that. But I know some teams... Are you eating burgers? Huh? Okay. Shut up. You actually get lucky when the team picks you up with soccer. So that's why I say basketball would be harder than soccer. Yeah, I guess anything comes with luck. There are some people... I agree with you how there's probably some people in the middle of nowhere in Latin America that are way better than people who aren't professionals now. But that's like in any sport. I feel like. There are people that are better than professionals everywhere. And that's what also I feel like makes basketball hard. Because most players from different countries, international players, are going to come to the NBA. And most people want to get to the NBA. And if you're going to do those other countries, you're seen as not as good. But with soccer, there's so many different leagues. There's the World Champions League. There's the World Cup. Okay, right. No, we get what you're saying. We get what you're saying. But whenever it comes to USA sports, it's always about money, bro. It's always about money, especially with basketball. That's why I say baseball is the most overrated sport. Because they're getting paid more money than football and basketball combined. And soccer combined. No, they're not. And combined. No, they're not getting paid more than football. No, in the U.S. Oh, in the U.S. In the U.S. Maybe, yeah. More than all those combined. Literally, Ohtani signed a billion-dollar deal. I mean, he's not even that great. He's hurt. And they signed him to a billion-dollar deal. He's just not pitching this season. The main thing they needed him for. He's a pitcher and a batter. That's the thing. No, yeah, no, no. Wait, hold on, hold on. Baseball players, it's not one fixed position. Same thing sometimes with basketball. It's not one fixed position. That's the thing. Like LeBron James can play point guard if he wants to. Basketball, it's really easily interchangeable. A pitcher and a batter, you can't be, most people can't be a pitcher and a batter because the strain it puts on their arms. Usually after like 70, 80 pitches, the pitcher's done. Because after pitching like 90-plus miles per hour that many times, it strains your arm. And having the ability to do that and being able to hit, that's like one in a million. He's such a high-set-up player. I know. Low-key, I think. They don't deserve the money. Hold on, hold on. If you think about what sport is harder to start off playing, I think it's way, maybe not way, but I think it's easier starting off playing basketball than baseball. Because let's think about us. We are horrible at both sports, okay? Whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay, maybe not. I guess you play a little basketball. But I think we're a lot closer on shooting a two-pointer or a three-pointer than we are at throwing a ball at 90 miles per hour or hitting a ball at 90 miles per hour. Well, if you've never done something. Okay, you get a person that's never done anything at all. They are more likely to shoot a basketball than to throw a baseball that fast or hit a baseball that fast. That's a fact. Okay, let's talk about when they get to the league. It's harder with basketball because you have to get through the tree league, then the G League, then the NBA. We're not talking about that. We're just talking about starting out. Starting out as a kid? Yeah. I feel like, honestly, it's harder to do basketball because even as a kid, how much competition there is. Even as a kid, there's going to be kids training from three years old. I've heard more kids playing in the minor league than what even is there for kids playing basketball. To be fair, that's just any sport. AAU, they have all those leagues. To be fair, that's just any sport. That's where there's so many divisions. So what do you think, Mario? You said going back to you, what do you think? It's probably between soccer and basketball. I mean, I can't really decide which one because maybe they're both equally as hard. Just because how many people are wanting to get into the league and how many limited spots. I had a cousin. You know the FC Dallas game, right? I had a cousin. He got invited to play for FC Dallas. It was in the little clubs that they had within FC Dallas. The only way to actually get to play for FC Dallas was you had to get to those clubs. He would have kept doing it, right, but it was just so expensive. You had to have the money, you had to have the dedication to do it. If any of us were to try to do it, try to go through that process, we probably couldn't do it. I could. The U.S. is really hard. Yeah, and the U.S. soccer is so hard. And expensive. At the same time, basketball is... Okay, so it's like there's a lot more competition in soccer. That's for sure. Well, basketball, there's also... Because with how many limited spots there is, you're going to see more competition. Okay, there's more competition to be at the top in the world. It's harder to be Messi and Ronaldo than it is to be LeBron James. Whoa, no. Because we didn't see a LeBron James for like 40 years after Michael Jordan. We didn't see a level... 40? 40? Are you for real? No. Wait, when did Michael Jordan retire? What do you think? In my opinion, Michael Jordan was not good at the end of his career. Okay, when did he win his championship? If you're talking about... We haven't seen a player like LeBron since Michael Jordan. We've never seen a player like Messi and Ronaldo. Ever. Ever. Nowhere. Ever. No. Doesn't even compare. Hazard. Think about that. Neymar. No. No, bro. Not even close, bro. Holland. No. No. To Hazard? He's too young. No, to Messi. He's still better than Messi. To Hazard? Vinicius Junior. Vinicius Junior? No, no, no. Benzema. I wouldn't say so. To Hazard and Neymar? No, not Benzema. To Hazard and Neymar? Neymar and Hazard. I'd say they're pretty even. Neymar and Hazard? No, I wouldn't say. He was being compared. What? And then he ate too many burgers. Oh my god. Like, shut up. Actually, I don't know. Hazard, I don't know. Like, Neymar has been good for a long time. Okay, but still. It's harder to be Messi than it is to be LeBron. And Papi. Name players that are as good as LeBron James. Like, that you think. Right now? Right now. Right now. Right now. Right now. Right now. Right now. Right now. Right now. I mean, there's not a big pool compared to blockers. I can name maybe one in the last 15 years. Steph Curry? No. Steph Curry. Kevin Durant? Yeah, Kevin Durant. I was going to say him. Because he has been dominant. But the thing is, he doesn't have as big of a legacy as LeBron. Because LeBron has done it for 22 years, almost. Yeah, but we're talking about, like, skill. LeBron James went from high school to the league. High school to the league. Straight. That's crazy. Really, that's crazy. Messi was in the professional stuff since, like, 16 years old, bro. Well, LeBron was in the NBA. They made a new rule for LeBron to be. They made a new rule so LeBron couldn't, like, after LeBron went to the NBA, they made a rule that he had to be out of high school for two years before you can, like, enter the draft. Because of how good LeBron was. Messi was in Barcelona, one of the top clubs, when he was, like, 16 years old. Like, come on. Okay, okay. Next one. Let's move on to the next question, which I brought up earlier. What do you think is the most dangerous sport? And I already know the answer, so I'm going to go last. MMA. I would say boxing or MMA. MMA. Okay, MMA. What do you think, Mario? Baseball? I was joking, I was joking. Wait a second, wait a second. Probably boxing or MMA. I'm trying to think of another one. My brother said basketball. No, least dangerous sport. No, there's some pretty bad basketball injuries. Like, if you land wrong in any sort of way, your bone... If you get tackled the wrong way. It's like jumping. No, but there's no other sport where you're jumping and running, like, consecutively that much other than basketball. I think with... I think you can... With football, you're getting 300-pound men tackling you, and then I still don't think that, like, you can land wrong, they can land wrong on you. Like, there's some people, like offensive linemen, who get hurt from stepping back wrong, and they tear their ACL. And that can be a dangerous sport. But I still think with, like, boxing and MMA, it's more dangerous because it's one-on-one contact. That person's trying to do all their force on you. Or rugby. Because rugby, you have no protection. What do you think, Eric? MMA? MMA. What do you think? One that I really think... Not jacking. Huh? Not jacking. That's kind of crazy. One I think y'all aren't considering, gymnastics. Because they're doing all those tosses and swirly shit. If they fall any type of wrong, it's ribs, you know? Maybe. They usually have mats under them, though. Sometimes, but, like, professional gymnastics, like, they might not have that. And they have no protection. No, they always have mats. Yeah, they're doing it on mats, usually. Like, the Molly Biles put that on mats during, like... But even then, if you land on your head, you're good, bro. But that's any sport. If you're going for a high up... I never thought about that. That is a really dangerous sport. I would say that's more dangerous than maybe basketball. I don't think basketball's dangerous. Basketball's so dangerous. Okay, maybe I'm biased because I saw a video where, like, he landed wrong. Like, they're jumping so high up. He landed wrong, you could literally see, like, the bone, like, go against the scale. We've seen that in football, too. That goes wrong. Because if you have two people clobbering you, sometimes there's, like, three people clobbering you. Yeah, but you have gear. Yeah, but, like, with basketball... You don't have any gear. Yeah, but they're not trying to tackle each other. They're trying to actually not tackle each other because it's a foul. So I feel like basketball's not as dangerous. There's so much stuff protecting the player. So what do you think, football or MMA? MMA. I feel like the only thing, argument for MMA, how it wouldn't be is because, like, the time between fights. Because the fights aren't... You have to schedule them. They aren't, like... Football's, like, every week. Yeah, that's true. And MMA, like, it comes and goes, and it's not always, like, a set schedule. You have to plan it out. You have to, like, agree to fight the person. You don't know when you're going to fight next. Yeah, that's true. I think the main thing you can look at is Muhammad Ali. You can see when he fought a lot with boxing. I know it's not MMA, but he fought a lot. He got punched in the head a lot. And then he got a disease from it where he died from it early. Yeah, he got pretty old. He was, like, 60. He got... Really? Yeah, he wasn't... He looked so old because of how much his health deteriorated due to it. Look it up. I think it was, like, 60s. Because I remember... What's his name? The one with the tattoo. Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson, talking to him. Right, yeah. But Mike Tyson was old when he talked to him because Mike Tyson was in jail for a while. So he died at 74 years old? Yeah. For nowadays medicine, that's kind of on the younger side. Okay. And it mostly is because he had a brain disease because of how much he got punched. But you can say the same thing with football with CTE. But, like, CTE is, like, so unrecognizable. Okay, well, I think, like, I heard this. Or no, I think I watched a video. I was talking to my brother, and I watched a video with, like, top 10 biggest, like, injuries in sports history. And a lot of them, which I didn't think about, was hockey. And low-key, hockey has to be the main injury. That one person died because of hockey. Yeah, one person died. Because the blade cut their neck. The blade cut their neck. Like, you're dealing with, like, sort of football, where you're, like, having big men, like, tackling you. And they'll purposely punch you. And then you'll also, yeah, they also just get into fights a lot. And then you also have to deal with, like, these weapons on your feet, bro. That is crazy. But they also, like... And then they also have, like, a hard puck. Like, even the goalies, I know they have a lot of protection, but they have, like, a hard, like, a hard freaking puck, like, being thrown at them at top speed. The thing is... No, think about it. Hockey is one of the hardest sports. You're trying to fit that puck between a full-grown person and a small... That thing is small. Right, but the puck is small. Yes, but you have a whole person in front of it. Yeah. So you're trying to get through their legs, get around them. But you're not that far away from them, and the puck is small. It's, like, I don't know. I think it's pretty slow. I don't know. And you're going full speed. And you're going full speed, yeah. Hockey, but is it the hardest? What did we say was the hardest over, like, the... MMA. I think it's one of the hardest, now that I think about it. Because you also, like, have to worry if someone's going to fight you within a second. Hockey, I feel like is underrated. I've liked watching hockey, but I would never play it. Yeah. So what do you guys think? MMA or hockey? Most dangerous. I mean, hockey. MMA. Gymnastics, though? I still think that, yeah. But the whole purpose of MMA is to hurt your opponent. I feel like gymnastics is such indirect injuries, while hockey and MMA is so direct injuries. Like, you see them after the fight, and they're all, like, swollen up. But that's minor to them. Okay, MMA, yeah, like, the purpose is to hurt each other. But, like, you're training, like, so much time, like, to not get hurt. Or, like, or to, like, even get used to that hurt. It's the same with gymnastics. You're learning how to fall correctly. You're learning how to, like, avoid things. Okay, but Mario brought up a good point. They're, like, having months and months of training before each fight. And then they're only going to fight for, like, how much time do they fight? It's, like, 12 rounds of three minutes? Well, gymnastics, they train all year and all year to participate at three events. Yeah, no, gymnastics I don't think is in the question. I'm talking about hockey. Sorry, no offense. He brought a bunch of Patriots players with him. Oh, he did? And the thing with Aaron Rodgers, he has the best touchdown to interception ratio of all time. All time. All time. All time? All time. So that means he will throw a bunch of touchdowns, but no interceptions. And interceptions can lose you a game, like, so easily. So that's your thing, he's the best athlete? Because we have to put into consideration what athlete means. Yeah, because he has so much... Cut. It turned off. When did it turn off? We got positive.
