The left figure shows two signals partly overlapped. The correlation between them increases as they overlap more. The highest correlation indicates when the signal returns. For the left figure, we can see two signals are overlapped partly. Looking at the correlation, it starts to increase. The correlation rise to the highest when two signals are overall overlapped. And we can detect the highest correlation to determine when the signal comes back.
