Nothing to say, yet
Vicki Garrett chats with her granddaughter, Kalia, about her experiences at her new school. Kalia mentions some issues with classmates pressuring her to talk about her new school, but overall she likes her new teacher and enjoys activities like music and cheerleading. They discuss Kalia's future goals and plans for spring break. Vicki expresses her support and appreciation for Kalia. Hi, my name is Vicki Garrett, this is an assignment for Module 4. I will be chatting with my granddaughter, Kalia. Hi. I am inquiring how is it going at her new school. I am looking forward to it. Are you having any issues because you sometimes hesitate about talking about your new school when I ask? At my new school, it doesn't take me too long at lunch. At the lunchroom, they say the food is good at the lunchroom. Sometimes, they were insistent that I talk about my new school, and I want to keep this kind of behavior, and this is predatory. That was my experience. Oh, so how do you feel about this? Sometimes, I feel like I'm getting in trouble. Well, but you don't because I know you don't have. You've been taught and raised better than that. But other than that, are there any other issues that you're experiencing? Do you like your new teacher? I do like my new teacher. I like the way he works. The way he learns, everything. And I love teaching as well. Okay. That's awesome. And now, I recall you telling me that there's not that many 5th graders. How many 5th graders in your school? In my school? In 4th grade. Well, that's a rather small school. But sometimes, it's really bad. Well, I don't think that will have that kind of effect. I mean, it's just a rather small school for me. What kind of activities do you all have? The activities that we have at our school, we have music and cheerleading. And we also have tennis. So, it's only one 3rd grade class or is it two 3rds? It's two 3rds. We have Mr. Royce. Why? Because there's this game called Powerhouse that we do at the end of the day. We are an all-in-one class. And we're really focused on, like, writing characters. So, it's just a great job. Oh, that's awesome. I love to hear that. You've got to keep that up. Any other specials that you might be having at school that you... Sometimes, I don't have any plans. We have a group. Sometimes, there's a group of friends that I choose to attend. And then, one day, there's... I don't know if that's good or bad. Sometimes, we feel like there's opportunities that... That's your friend. Trying to groove? That's very nice of you. Sometimes, they just say it to other people, and they're not sure what the answer is. That makes them proud of you. You know, before I left, one day, she told me, friend, am I going to another school next year? Yes, you may. I am. When you visited much, what all did you see? All the students, first gen, first year, second year, third year, fourth year. And then, when you thought about it, what kind of thing did you want to do then? I was told I'm trying to be grateful that I'm in the community. Well, okay. Let's try that. When I was in seventh grade, I was in eighth grade, and I was happy about everything I could do. So, how do you feel about everything you can do? Thank you. Anything else you want to say to me? I don't even know if I'm in seventh or eighth grade, but I know how kind you are. Is there anything else you want to say to me? That would be awesome if both of you all would make some changes. That's awesome. I'm glad to hear that you're well at the new school, and I know you like your after-school chair. The idea of an after-school chair is really great. And I would like to hear what you have in mind. I think that's a great idea. Anything else you want to say to me? Yes, of course. We can be top teachers. I'm not just saying that because I'm black, but of course. We have excellent teachers. We have some great writers and inventors. And I know you can write very well. You also speak well. Thank you. So, what do you think you want to do? So much, we cannot manage this. Do you want to participate in some of these worship calls? Or be a teacher? I feel like I can do it. Okay. So, look, you're on spring break. It's coming up next. And I know you're excited about that. Are you planning on meeting any groups or what? Oh, okay. Okay. Do they give you out any recommendations for action or? No. Because I believe in practical master steps. So, in the process, I will find the ones for you, and try to help. But most of the times, anything like that, you'll have to do that. Do you know any parties? I think there's one. But I don't really know any parties. Well, you know me, and I have to actually say, I also love to tell. I was in a party a couple years ago. But, yeah, I think there's one. Okay. So, our time is winding down. And I really do appreciate you participating. I hope by talking with me, that it helps you with some of your issues at school, like Michelle said. When they go low, we go high. All right. Thank you. And we are getting ready to sign off. Thank you, Dr. Simpson. And our time is up. Thank you.
