The next morning, they returned to the narrow gulch, facing obstacles like deep mud, standing water, and tight walls. They struggled to navigate through large boulders and thick mud, trying to make their way down the gulch. Eventually, the walls became so tight that they couldn't fit their backpacks between them and had to take them off. The next morning, we were up and back on the floor of the gulch early. Within a few hundred meters of the campsite, the gulch began to narrow to five or six feet. Our group moved slowly through the deep mud and standing water, feeling achy from the previous day. The walls pinched further in. The chasm turned back and forth, snake-like, always giving us a new challenge every thirty feet or so. Hovering over large boulders, struggling through thick, gooey mud, avoid a deep pool of water, just trying to get our scraggly butts down the gulch. We plodded along steadily, silent, wondering how much worse it could get. Within half a mile, the walls had pinched in so tight that we had trouble fitting our backpacks between them. At one point, we had to take them off.
