Mr. Peabody boy, Jacob Rickwall. I'm Mark Schiffler. And this is Racing Paradise and Mark, I had an outstanding weekend, Labor Day weekend was calm, relaxed, ran some fire calls, did some stuff, worked on my ATV. What was over there in Illinois for you to do? Well, I had to record the race and watch it later because my sister-in-law was getting married. Let's go! It was a nice venue, it was absolutely perfect day and a beautiful wedding and reception. So. That's awesome. Yeah. Didn't do a whole lot, as I just mentioned, it was just a relaxed holiday weekend. But the racing, man, did not disappoint. It was a really good race for the Cup Series race, especially the playoffs. Mark and I talked about a whole bunch of times where it's late in the season, drama is going to get there, drama is going to get there. And drama happened between Alex Bowman and Daniel Suarez. This is later on in the race that I'm starting off as. Alex Bowman did, down the front straightaway, I believe, I believe it was the front straight. The back stretch. The back stretch, excuse me. They all look the same. Oh, yes, man. It's a big egg-shaped track, so. Yeah, it all looks the same. Yeah, Alex Bowman threw a block, threw another block, Daniel Suarez did not lift, wrecked each other's cars with, I'd say, inside 50 to go. So it was a hard day for those two not to finish the race, but, you know, a Chevy did end up winning, so. Yeah, and ended Harrison Burton's night, too. He was a casualty of their stupidity. Yeah, innocent bystander is what we call that, Mark, where you know that a lot in racing. Well, Daniel Suarez didn't have that much damage if Harrison didn't hit him. Suarez could have finished the race if Harrison was able to get lower on the track, but as he got lower, Suarez got lower, too. So, yeah. Yeah, it's, you know, it's all, I wouldn't say a racing deal, but late in the season, I call it a racing deal. Two guys going hard, every point matters, you say what you want to say to me, my opinion matters myself, you know, and to me, it was a racing deal. You know, under 100 laps to go, you're not lifting, you're not saying, okay, let me surrender, let me go by. No, you know, they're all racing for their careers, they're all racing for their contracts. And that's what people don't get. Yeah, and for points. I mean, it's not only the playoff guys that are racing for points, but the ones that didn't make the playoffs, they're still racing for points, too. If you because if you look at the owners championship, yeah, you know, you got your playoff people, but those ones, 17th and down still have payouts, too. And the higher you go, the more money you get. So those guys still racing for points for the owners, owners and themselves. Which, I mean, I know we have one RCR card and that's Kyle Busch and everybody's been hating on him. And I thought he did pretty well this past weekend. Could have finished, I believe, a little bit better than where he did end up. I think the pit strategy between the RCR camp could be a bit better, where, okay, you're going to pit the same strategy as the leading cars, not, you know, following suit of what's in the back of the pack, the middle of the pack, sort of wheelhouse, because it's like Kyle was running, like, top 15 up in the top 10, had a good running car, Austin was up in the top 10, really cool day for him. But they screw themselves up on pit road because they go on pit and I don't even think it's on the same sequence as what the leader's cars, I mean, it'd be smart, like if they're trying to jump the cars, but you know what I'm saying, it's like, it doesn't, I don't get it. Yeah, I think what they were doing in the first two, what they wanted to do in the first two stages was try and one-pit the stage, but Darlington's so abrasive, you can't do that with the tires. It's like a cheese grater, like a mud-tracked solid. It's like old Atlanta, not old, old Atlanta, but our previous Atlanta. It's kind of like before the Wilkes-Barre, yeah, North Wilkes-Barre, Rockingham, yeah. It's just all those, all those tracks down there, the pavement or asphalt on those tracks, every state's different on how they make their asphalt, like a lot of those Southern states, their asphalt is made not only by the rubber and tar and rock, but they also have the, they have seashells in there and other sand, other beachy things because most of, it's a coastal state, so that's what gives the abrasiveness at those tracks. Which is why they call it the Lady in Black, I mean, we saw a lot of times this weekend where the announcer was like, he hit the wall, he didn't hit the wall like we see sometimes Lady in that, like the Lady in the Black, excuse me, kind of hard to say when you're trying to say it fast, but, and on the spot too, it's kind of hard too, but so they didn't get that black stripe like they normally get, they didn't get that Lady in Black mentality stripe that she gives out every now and then, what they did is they brushed the wall and got off of it, when I talk about the Lady in Black stripe, I'm talking like, you're riding that wall, like we used to see, you know, and there is, there's just different lines now, I mean, there's different lines between what Kevin Harvick runs, like they're running up on the wall and he's running lane, two lanes, like shallow of what the leaders and everybody else is running, because he was, been running that line since he was rookie at the track, you know, he's developed that line where he will lose stuff in the corners in the turns three and four, turns, you know, one and two, but he'll gain stuff on the straight away run and that's been beneficial, why, you know, you see Kevin Harvick do well and save his stuff and have good runs at these tracks that are demanding on the cars because he's not the one balls to the walls like Larson and everybody else risking it for the biscuit for, you know, 200, 300 laps. Yeah, and the last four races, the last two years, you know, it's been easy to tame the Lady in Black because what we're used to seeing with the old generation car, you hit that wall, your aerodynamics is screwed, this new body, this new body holds up, so you can't, it's easy to tame this track now because there's not that much body damage anymore, unlike Bell, he hit the wall pretty hard coming off turn two. Oh yeah, hard break for him, you know, in the season, you know, he's a really gifted driver and somebody that's like really gifted on dirt, but when it translates to asphalt, he can't connect in the year of 2023, which is sad and depressing for all those Bell fans because there's a lot of good supporters of him. I'm not a Toyota fan, but I do kind of support what Bell's doing, I mean, he's a proven dirt driver, you know, has multiple starts in pretty much anything, really, and he's just a genuine, you know, good guy that, you know, it's not just like an asshole to one person, you know, he's like, he's true, you know, honest, you know, humble, so hopefully next year he can square it off. Yeah, and speaking of Toyota, which brought something to my head that we didn't mention before we got on, Denny Hamlin signed a multi-year extension with JGR, which brings us back to hey, 2311 is staying in the Toyota camp. Yeah, I think I did send you a thing about that this past week on some type of social media where he... You did, and we didn't go over that in our notes before we started, so. Yeah, so yeah, so good break for Denny, you know, I don't really know how good of a person he really is, to be honest, I mean, I never... Let's put it this way, when I'm at the track, I'm looking for Austin Dillon, you know, I'm looking at hanging out with Austin Dillon, because all I ever grew up and did in my life was, okay, research Austin Dillon, watch YouTube videos of Austin Dillon, I'm a huge-ass Austin Dillon fan, I mean, I don't have enough diecast to prove it like Mark does, because I don't have the funds to do that, else I would, but I'm a huge Austin Dillon fan, we literally talk for hours, so I guess the thing is, I'm happy for Denny, but I don't know, was it right for, you know, Joe Gibbs to sign him again, I mean, he is with 2311 and whatnot, he could have landed maybe potentially a ride with 2311, because it's his team, but, you know, I don't know the circumstances, so, we just, I don't know, happy for him, I guess. The Wi-Fi is screwing up, so I had no idea what you said. Oh, I said, I said it was surprising that Denny didn't go and go race with his own team, like 2311, and not get signed, you know, get back signed with Joe Gibbs, and just go do your own thing, go, you know, go be with your own team, and at the end of the day, it's a grand scheme of things, because, you know, Denny can say, okay, get out of the seat, it's my turn, you know, he's got that capability, but also, it's the thing of, okay, we got the funds now to put it back in the car, with all the money that he receives at JGR. See, what I'm wondering is, if he made a deal with Joe Gibbs on, A, when I retire, can I purchase your charter from you, and bring the 11 over? No, I personally believe that the 11 car, and I hate saying this, because, no, don't get me wrong, it's nice seeing a three car around the track, and it should be around the track, within family circumstances, like Dylan Hart Sr., and everybody agreed upon. Now, I think personally, the 11 car number should be retired, if the deal doesn't get squared away, because Denny's always been an 11 car, you know, I'm not saying that it should be retired, but I'm just saying, it'd be kind of cool to see the 11 car be, you know, be retired, like the three, the three for most people that are not fans of, you know, the three or whatever, or whatever Teresa told them, or whatever, they want that tree to be gone. And some fans say, okay, Denny did a lot for JGR, retire it in his honor. That's just a respectful thing, I'm not saying that, go ahead and retire the 11, or it should happen, I'm just saying that it'd be respectful for, you know, for Joe Gibbs to say, okay, there's going to be nobody else driving this 11 car. Yeah, realistically, you know, NASCAR is not going to retire numbers, but there is one number that is pretty much retired, because we're never going to see it on the track. And that's the 28, and that goes to Davey Allison, you know, when Junior jumped ship from DEI to Hendrick, if you listen to the one episode where he was talking about trying to choose numbers, he wanted the 28, the 28 over the 88. Unfortunately, we lost Mark, but I think he's coming back in now. I'm here. If you listen to the Dale Junior podcast, when he was talking about numbers, trying to pick a number, he wanted the 28, but they were like, oh, we have to ask Gates, because Gates still had the rights at the time. Well, they're like, oh, well, we need to go talk to Haviland. Haviland said absolutely not. Haviland does not want to see the 28 back on the track. So 28 is pretty much retired, and that's why Junior got the 88. So the 28, you can't run it in Xfinity, you can't run it in ARCA, you can't run it in what? No, not just CUP. You cannot run it in CUP. There's a 28, Luke Finhouse runs a 28 car in ARCA. I don't keep up with all the numbers, really. I just keep up the names, to be honest. I don't know if there's a 28 in the trucks, but I think there's a 28 in Xfinity Series. Yeah, I think it's a Ford. Yeah, I think it's a SEED car. I know he has a 38 and 39, but I think they run three cars. I think they have a 28. Words that our team at Geographic Junior is with now, that runs... That's the SEED guys. Oh, those are SEED now, too? I thought they were the Leaf Brothers. It's, what is it, RR or RSS or something like that? It's a SEED team. Well, I guess so. And then, okay, so good things, right? Race is going on, race is going on. And there's lights that shine up on the back straightaway. All the way around the track, there's lights that shine up on the fence. You know, all the way around the fence, so the drivers can see the wall at night. When it's dark out. Because when you look over to the right or try to see your lane or where you're at, you can't see the wall because it's too dark. It's like driving in the dark without your lights on. Now, they're throwing a big fit about it because they couldn't see the wall. But they have this huge-ass light shining down on the track, which I thought, you know, would have been good enough to see. And then somehow I found an in-car camera, and I don't know how I found it or how I got to it. Just scrolling on YouTube. And I was looking through a cockpit video, like in a car, from Darlington when they had that light problem. If I was the driver, I couldn't see anything. And so they're going around the track in multiple laps, whatever. And then they finally go, okay, red flag. And I think we're on a red flag for at least an hour and a half. Something like that, yeah. Hour and a half for them to get the lights on. But the way they were describing people through the TV was like, the backstretch lights are not on. And then they finally started talking about it. I was like, oh, okay. Because I was listening in the car, and MRN, because I was just getting back from another fire call, and MRN goes, well, there's no lights on the back straightaway. That's what they said. What idiot forgot to turn on the lights? That should be a priority when you have a night race. You do not forget. I was like, somebody's fired. That's what I was thinking in my car. I was hitting the dash. I was like, you moron. I felt sorry for somebody that maybe that was their job. But then I finally got home, and I get inside, and I walk out. I got this mean-ass look. It's like a flop in my hand. You see there? Mark, man. Wi-Fi is going goofy. Yep, Wi-Fi is going goofy. Okay, so I got home, and I'm so pissed because I think somebody still has not turned on the backstretch lights. So I get a pop because I'm pissed, and I go and sit down, and I look at my dad, and I go, who in the hell forgot to turn on the fucking backstretch lights? You know, I'm so pissed. And he goes, well, it's not the backstretch lights. And I go, well, what lights are there? And he goes, the lights on the wall. I said, oh, okay. It was the interior lights in three and four, I believe, that shine up the banking so they can see the wall and all that. It's one of those BBC what an idiot moments. Yeah. Well, especially for MRN, too. Like, oh, they forgot to turn on the backstretch lights. Like, that's what they said on the air. Can't see what's actually going on. So I was like, what an idiot. Like, you know, like, you got one job. But I think you said once. Yeah, that's what I was literally saying in my car. I was like, you're literally getting paid for one job to turn on the lights, and you didn't do that. And I was like, yeah. And then I finally found out that they're in-house lights, though, right? It's not like something that somebody manually turns on. Right. So, yeah, but, okay, so the next topic is Diecast of the Week, I guess. Oh, sure, why not? I was just fiddling around. Oh, if not, we can post it on the Facebook page if that's more convenient. To have it used on your Facebook page. Yeah, I mean, I have one ready. I was just fiddling around. You can show it if you want, and then you can post it. Yeah, well, the one car I wanted to show, I had forgotten I sent out to have details put on it, because I wanted to show Kurt Busch's Kansas win from last year. But I sent it out to my custom guy to put the Monster logos on it, that, you know, Monster doesn't want to give rights to any of their cars to make diecast out of. Although they're the sponsor of NASCAR's Monster Energy Series. Well, yeah, back in 2018. Yeah, but that's still kind of the same thing. They're putting Monster Energy on something, and then they have Monster Energy products to get made, let's say, NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series on, you know, the thing, and it's got their logo on that. So it still should be the same process. Like, what's in, like, a diecast? I don't get it at all. I don't get it. But the only, I have four Kansas cars, and the only one that I have in my possession is this one. It's solid. Yep. Nice. Where did you get that signed at? I bought it like that. Nice. Because it doesn't say autograph on the box. When I got my, well, the way I got my autograph version, Austin Dillon thing was, when I was down there in North Carolina, Austin Dillon was coming in and doing a signing appearance for all the fans. Well, I saw that the brand new, his previous win at the Daytona win on the Prezzy car. Well, he come up, and I asked the guy before he come up, I said, is he signing these, and can I buy one, like, previously and have him sign it? And I said, well, it costs anything extra for him to sign it. It cost me, like, 70 bucks for the car and autograph, like, the car and autograph together. Like, they weren't upcharging it just because he signed it. Right. So, it was really cool. So, I already had one in my hand, and I had the other one in my hand. I was like, let's go, shabang, shabang. Yep, there you go. Got it done, so, and then, so, yeah. But that's nice, I guess. What year? It's 2018 Kansas final. Nice. Nice. Win number two. Peace. Yeah, tough win number two. So, you know, we talked about playoffs, okay? So, what driver, you know, last time we were on here, we were talking about, okay, what driver do we think that is going to make the round and is not going to go in? Like, what is the drivers right now that you think about, like, looking back at the points from this past weekend, what driver do you think is like, oh, okay, he's going to choke, he's going to do bad, whatever the case may be? Like, they've been calling out the eight, but I totally think the eight's going to make it in the next round. See, my thought is, you know, our guy, you know, Derrick Nealon is going to spot two championships. That's my thought. That'd be, okay, if you said that, and then somebody, like, if you put a bet on it today, I was like, like, this is something that's like, okay, Cowboys is going to go out there and kick their ass, Austin Hill is going to go kick their ass, Derrick Nealon is going to coach them, guide them to a kick-ass, you know, championship, and then somebody goes, no way did somebody ever bet on that. And then I came back and listened to your podcast and said, well, Mark Shishler from Racing Paradise said that Derrick Nealon's going to spot the eight and the 21 to two championships in one year from RCR. You'd be worth a lot of money. I mean, worth a lot of money. I mean, I don't know. That'd be hard to, like, say, like, okay, RCR's got to win two championships. I don't mind, like, if they won it, but I just, it's too hard to bet on, I guess. He's got a possibility of spotting three championships if you go with the two of Nick Sanchez, too. Would Derrick say he's, like, 20 points ahead or something like that because of his wreck out at the last race? Yeah, I think so. But I don't know. Okay, what I'm going to say is the 21, of course, you can't count 21 out in Xfinity equipment, the eight, he's going to get that last spot in the final four. Now, that being, you know, the Cup Series is so iffy. Like, Chris Buescher and all these other drivers just win. Like, Kyle Arsenal wins out of the blue at Darlington. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, Chris Buescher won back-to-back and almost had another win this past weekend. Like, you don't know what's going to happen between the Cup Series guys. You can almost kind of almost predict what Xfinity is going to do. But Cup is like, man, I don't know. Just remember, Xfinity's playoffs has not started yet. So. When does that start? I think Bristol. I think Bristol. But yeah, so I mean, it's like. So, for the Cup Series right now, it's just too hard. Bristol is the last race of the regular season for Xfinity. That's the way it is. Okay. Well, I think that the one person that I can be confident, like, just I have confidence to say it. That's just, he's not going to win. You know, he's not going to get into the playoffs. That's 23-11 driver, number 23 bubble loss. I don't think he's getting in at all. He's not going to make it through this round. He's won at Danvers, and he's damn good at Bristol. So he'll make it. No. He'll make it. But you're going to hate me on this one. I kind of wish Redick would have won Burlington. Fuck off. Hold on. No. No one. Wait. Wait. I have one reason and one reason only why I wish he won. You know what it is? I guess. That paint scheme is badass. I love that blue. Oh, it was the Tar Heels Charlotte colors of the North Carolina team. Yep. The paint scheme was cool, but I'm not just saying, okay, his paint scheme's good. I want him to win. You know what I'm saying? I want my guys to win. I don't want Tyler Redick that did RCR dirty to go and win. I want to respect them all. You know, it's just because of the paint scheme. But how much of a stab and twist would that have been if Tyler Redick would have won after the Tar Heels kicked the hell out of South Carolina? Okay, okay. Now, football terminology. The first week, the big teams, but it didn't happen. You know what game I'm talking about, right? Not really, no. I can't believe you don't know. Oklahoma. Oklahoma. Oklahoma game. I didn't even see it. I forgot who they played, but Oklahoma, I thought lost is what I heard. I know Colorado took out TCU. How do you even spell Oklahoma? Oklahoma. I don't know. O-K-L-O-M, I don't know. Oklahoma. Oklahoma. I found it. I can't spell. Football. I barely watched any football this weekend. I was busy. No, no, no, my bad. I had that wrong. So, actually let's flip the script. Arkansas State. The Arkansas State and Oklahoma game. Watched the game. The coach from Arkansas State was crying after the game. Look at the head coach. He lost 73-0. Holy hell. Right here. I did see that score. Oh, my God. Right here, yeah. I don't know if you guys can see that. 73-0, dude. I thought it was the other way around at first. And then I was like, I remembered what the score was. And I was like, no, Oklahoma beat the shit out of Arkansas State. They didn't have a chance. Yeah. And then there was this, it's got to be a big meme right now. The Arkansas State coach is a meme, like huge meme. Like, I lost my game. It sucks, but. Yeah, where's the mercy roll at? Yeah, should have just called it halftime. I know there was another college game. I didn't watch it, but I've seen the score. It was like 81-3. Really? I think that's what I saw. Scores. I'm looking up the scores. So, if you guys don't mind, all the viewers of Racing Paradise, when football comes around, I think Mark and I are, like, really into that, too. So, we're watching racing and we're really interested in football. I mean, I am. Yeah, football is my second love. Oh, yeah. So, let's just talk about some Florida scores. So, yeah. So, let's end off the Racing Paradise thing. You know, Kyle Larson got that win this past weekend, riding the wall. Really pretty style. I guess was bouncing off the wall off and on. Just. Yeah, it was a great recovery from his Saturday when he had motor issues. Yeah, that's true. I don't get to see a whole lot of Saturday races because I work at the Speedway. But I did see highlights, and it was a pretty interesting race for the Xfinity guys, too. Yeah. Denny Hamlin, you know, came and won that in overtime. Austin Hill had a good shot to give RCR their first Xfinity win at Darlington, but came up short. Yeah. Yeah, it's some tough breaks from drivers, some good weekends from drivers. And, yeah, it was a good weekend for Chevy overall for the Cup Series. Yep. And the one thing we didn't do last week is we didn't do our playoff brackets. I didn't set that up. So, seeing as how we're one race in, we'll just start with the round of 12 just to finish out the brackets. Yeah, so. But, yeah, so. That's all I really have for NASCAR, really. That's all I got. Oh, we did. If you haven't seen today, John Hunter Nemechek has been signed by Legacy Motorsports. He will be piloting the 42 next year as they transition to Toyotas. Yeah, so. Say that again. Sorry. John Hunter Nemechek piloting the 42 for Legacy as they transition to Toyotas. This is going to be a good move for him and hopefully the best, you know. He's going to get a little bit more Toyota backing than what I think he's got, what he's received at Xfinity Stable for JGR. And I think he's going to get more some time than he might deserve, he might not deserve. I think he's a high-talented caliber driver that should receive multiple some time on the SimRig for Toyota. Well, hopefully him and Jones can get along because I know they don't like each other, but they're going to have to. Okay, signing off. So are you talking about the Oregon and Portland State game? That might be it. Oregon beat Portland State 81-7. Yeah, that's what it was, yeah. Jesus, Danny. Okay. My Tigers got beat. Yeah. My Clemson Tigers got beat. That's bad. That's a bad start, you know, Mark. It's like you want them to do good. Well, my Michigan State Spartans made Central Michigan look like frickin' All-Americans. Freshman quarterback and was like running through tackles, doing this and that. Like actually wanting to see contact, to fight through contact as a quarterback in college football. And it's like, what the hell, especially with a freshman, you know. And he made himself look like an All-American from a lower D1 school as Central Michigan is lower D1. They don't play with a league like Michigan State, Michigan, all that. I'm excited to see what that quarterback does from Central Michigan, and I'm going to follow him closely. Because he, to myself, to my standards, looks like he's a rare quarterback. Something like, not often do you see a quarterback in college run through three different dudes to get the first down. The season opener game, you know, for their school. It's like, it's cool. And then, by the way, watch out for my Ferris State Bulldogs. Go Dawgs! Ferris State Bulldogs in Big Rapids, Michigan. They're a D2 school. They play in the GLIAC Conference. They beat Mercyhurst 54-12 on their season opener. And they're back-to-back national championship winners. They won the national title two years back-to-back. And they're looking at doing that their third year in a row this year. Already off to a good start. Mark, football picks. Who you got? Are we talking NFL now? Because NFL starts this week. I don't know. Okay. My brother and I have this dilemma going on. He wants Kansas City Chiefs. I hate them. Don't like them. I always root for the home team when it comes to football. I think it's time. The Lions, the Lions, are going to make a playoff run. The Lions, dude. I'm telling you. Okay, Michigan talk, Michigan talk. There's always times like where they go, oh the Lions are going to make the playoffs this year. What a joke. You know, like they're just joking around. But I think they're going to win. They're going to win against Kansas City this week. The last time the Lions won a playoff game, JFK was live. Just do it is what they say. But, no. I'm going with the Chiefs. Oh, my God. As good as golf is, Mahomes is ten times better. He's good at golf, too. No, I don't think he is, but. Honestly, my Bears, I don't see them beating the Packers this week. If they do, it's a miracle. It's like the Packers are sipping on an ice cream soda pop, a little Popsicle, before they start playing. But you also have to think, it's a first-year starter quarterback. Eric Rodgers is in New York now, so Packers got Jordan Love. See what they can do. Any other smaller D2 schools that are decently good enough around your area? Basically, around my area, it's all D1. So you have Northwestern. You got Illinois. You got Northern Illinois. You got Western Illinois. I don't know. I think Illinois, I don't even know if they had their opener yet. I think they play tomorrow. What team? My favorite team is Clemson. They lost this past weekend. I haven't looked at the schedule. I don't know who they play this weekend. But hopefully they can get a win. That would be nice. But so anyways, so I got lots of races this weekend, lots of football. We're going to come back, talk to you guys. I don't know if we're going to do Racing Solutions Podcast tomorrow, just for sake of long weeks, this and that, recover, enjoy our weekends, that type of deal. Yeah, before we get off, we didn't even do racing picks. Let's do picks for what? Picks for Kansas. Kansas picks? Yeah. Kyle Busch. He's got to get a win to get in. Get a win to go on, I mean. I mean, he's got some good points. Definitely. To me, it's going to be the 45 or 23. Come on, dude. Come on. Hey. No. My ass. No, I'm basing it off the last three races. Kurt Busch won last spring. Bubba Wallace won last fall. Tyler almost had a three-peat in the 45 in the spring. He finished well. So did Bubba. So I'm just going with 23-11. Son of a gun. I just go off instinct, to be honest.
