Nothing to say, yet
The song "Merry Christmas, Darling" was written in 1946 by Frank Poehler about his love interest. In 1966, he passed the lyrics to Karen and Richard Carpenter, who were starting to find success with their band. The song became popular and expresses the longing to be with someone during the holiday season. The Christmas rush is through, but I still have one wish to make, a special one for you. Merry Christmas, darling. We're apart, that's true. But I can dream, and in my dreams, I'm Christmasing with you. Holidays are joyful, there's always something new. But every day's a holiday, when I'm near to you. The lights of my tree, I wish you could see, I wish it every day. The logs on the fire, fill me with desire, to see you and to say, that I wish you Merry Christmas. Happy New Year too, I just one wish on this Christmas Eve, I wish I were with you. The lyrics were written in 1946 by 20-year-old Frank Poehler, which according to him, were about a love interest he had at the time. 20 years later, in 1966, when he was the choral director at California State University in Long Beach, two of his aspiring music students, Karen and Richard Carpenter, were beginning to have success with a local band, and they asked him if he had any ideas for holiday songs. He passed on these lyrics, and this song was born. I wish I were with you. I wish I were with you. Merry Christmas, darling.
