Mark Taylor composed the piece Scream Machine, in which the trumpet plays the leading role, for a vinyl album released in 1985 by the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble. It was later released in a slightly simpler version, entitled Brass Machine. This arrangement for brass band is a direct adaptation of the score for the jazz ensemble. It is written for soprano cornet and four solo cornets.
