Learn moreIn this video, Julia from Cannon Farm Horse Rescue addresses a question about why some rescues don't like others. She explains that there are certain rescues, known as "mass baling rescues," that work with kill buyers to take in horses that are not actually going to be shipped for slaughter. These rescues ask for donations from the public, claiming that the horses will be saved from slaughter. However, Julia argues that this model is unsustainable and lacks transparency and accountability. She believes that these rescues are committing fraud by taking money under false pretenses. Other rescues criticize these mass baling rescues because they believe it is not truly saving horses and is ultimately a business. Julia emphasizes that her critique is not a personal vendetta, but rather a concern for the welfare of the horses and the integrity of the rescue industry. Hi again everyone, it's Julia from Cannon Farm Hose Rescue again. I wanted to just spend a little bit of time today answering at least, at the very least one question that I've had from someone, I think, Dolecatlady on, I believe, the first TikTok, or the first video that I did. She was asking, and this isn't a quote, but basically what she was asking was that why is it that other rescues don't like other rescues, whether they do it, do they rescue a small amount of horses or a large amount of horses? So what issue do they have with them? So I wanted to just address that because I think it's actually quite an important question, and especially for people who are not in the horse industry, because I think a lot of people in the horse industry understand what we're saying here, but they're not the ones we need to convince. It is the people who perhaps are donating or the people who need, who it would be nice for them to understand what happens. So I have made myself some notes, so if you keep looking down, that's why, because I can't remember everything, you know, I'm not as young as I used to be. So first of all, I want to talk about what I consider the kill pen mass baling rescues, and we can just call them M bars or whatever. It doesn't matter what we call them. But basically what happens is that a lot of them are working with the kill buyers, horse traders, brokers, whatever you want to call them, and I'm going to call them all three because people actually seem to get a little confused, so we're going to go all three. What happens is the kill buyer has a contract with Mexico, with Canada, wherever it is they're located pretty much, to supply X amount of horses per week, per month, per day, to be shipped to them for slaughter now, for slaughter to then be packaged and sent on to countries that actually eat and use horse meat and made into other things such as purses, you know. Basically every bit's going to be used, right, because otherwise there's no point in them doing this. So they're a business, okay, they're a business that's under contract. is shipped to either Mexico or Canada, there are certain rules that they must follow in order for those horses to be accepted into those particular countries, and each country has their own, and they're easy to look up, and I can post them later, but for the interest of just not rambling on too much here, so it used to be that the kill pen owners, the horse traders, used to buy up horses or have horses in their auction that were never going to ship to slaughter, alright, they already had those, okay, they knew which ones. They cannot legally ship horses that are sick, horses that are, you know, have young horses, you know, foals, whatever, and you can look up the SDA on that. So they have these horses that they found in the market for, so basically what happened was that they were selling them or they were telling people that the horses were going to ship. Now, a lot of the times they'd say direct ship, ship tomorrow, but it never really said where direct ship was, but the assumption was that they would be shipping to slaughter, okay, so people would buy up these horses, alright, and then a little bit of a shift changed because a lot of these horse traders, kill pen buyers, brokers, were investigated and some of them got, some of them got prosecuted, some of them got, you know, that they couldn't run this business anymore, so these must, what I could call the embars, okay, stepped up, well, stepped up, they came in and they said, well, we'll work with you and then we can be the ones taking the horses, and some work with them, some don't, but they are still taking the horses now, so there's been this shift, okay, now bearing in mind that the kill pen, they're a business, so they're in it to make money, alright, and you don't run a business at a loss, so, but certain non-profits, before they were non-profits actually, came up with this plan that if they took these horses that were never going to ship to slaughter, but told the public that they were going to ship to slaughter, that they could then be the good guys and get money to take in these horses from the general public, and so that's what happened, I mean, you know, and it's happening to this day, they post these videos that, they're like Oscar winning performances, honestly, I mean, I don't think I could even, well, maybe I could actually, but they sort of whip up, in their rhetoric, they whip up this frenzy of, among their followers, and people feel so bad for the horses, it's actually, you know, like, and then, so they're paying this ransom, if you like, this is what they call it, a ransom bail, it's the same thing, so they tell their followers that this horse is going to ship to slaughter if we don't get XYZ money, and we want me to save him and off he's going to go, so there we have this sort of guilt factor, oh my goodness, I need to at least donate something, even though I can't really afford it, but I'm going to donate something to save these horses, and the word save is, I use it loosely, term loosely, and they're pretty much told that if they don't, as I said, then they will ship to a slaughterhouse in Mexico or Canada, and they will be driven to a death that is not humane, and to be fair, some horses are, just not the ones we're seeing, these mass bailers are actually promoting, so they go through all this, they get the money, there are these live social media feeds, they get the money that they need, often more actually, and then they load all these horses, saying yay, congratulating themselves into their trailer, and off they go, I mean, the trailer may not be theirs, it could be just someone they've contracted to do that, but either way, they're trailing them off, off into the sunset, and the people that have donated, they feel good, of course, because they think that they have saved the life of a horse or multiple horses, from the horrors of this whole shipment thing, and the slaughter itself. But, see here, there's a problem, alright, there's a problem with this model, because, as I said before, the horse, the mass bailing rescues, they're asking for money that horses are never going to ship. They may ship somewhere, but it might be, if they're not sold at auction, they're going to go to another auction. So, it's just all, it's just really complicated. So, yeah, so just, if you look at it, you have to look at this from a business perspective, okay, because if we look at it from an emotional perspective, then it's, we just think, horses in danger, sick horses, da da da, we're going to give money, and, but there's no, then what happens? We don't know what happens, really. I mean, we only know what we're told happens. And a lot of these mass bailing rescues, and you can look for yourself, you know, we'll post updates of a particular horse that they saved, and that horse, you know, then they'll post after pictures, which in theory is great, right? But when you look closely at some of these horses, it's like, I think that's actually the same horse, or they put weight on way too quickly. Horses don't put weight on in two or three months, or a day. I mean, not to the extent that we're saying. So, getting back to my question, which I've digressed from a little bit, is why do other rescues complain about these rescues, other rescues? For the ones that take a lot of horses in from these, as the mass bailing from these so-called, you know, slaughter, horses shipping to slaughter, they, it's just not true. And it's not sustainable. I mean, 40 horses a week, 20, 10, 30, 40 horses a week. No, you can't do that. And I don't care how much land you've got. I don't care how many facilities you've got. You cannot take in that many horses week after week after week after week, and rehabilitate them, and get them adopted. It doesn't work. So, this is where the other rescues are coming from. And there does not seem or appear to be any accountability from these and, or any accountability and any transparency. And if you look, if you go through their posts, and you look sort of back and back and back and back, and you can find things that have been said that, you know, online, that are then, that are totally not true. And they've actually contradicted themselves. And this is the problem when you lie about stuff, right? If you can't keep up the lies, you know, then ultimately, it's gonna, you know, come right in the arse. And of course, this is part of what's happened. So that is why the other rescues get after these mass burning rescues. Now, I don't, I'm not getting after them because I'm a rescue. All right, we are a rescue. We're very small. I'm not going after them after that. What I'm going after is, they, it's fraud. Pure and simple, it's fraud. They're taking money from people. And they think they're doing a good thing. Sorry, I thought I was in the forest there. They're taking money from people. Missy, you stay please. Hey, Missy. Sorry, I don't want her going up there. So they're taking money from these people. And I've totally lost my train of thought now. But, you know, under false pretenses, basically. And it really is a money making. I mean, you know, and we can go in another video and go and look at their IRS receipts, which I will be doing, of course, and I've already done some of them and see how much money they're actually bringing in. And your eyes would, I mean, I'm just blown away. So no, it is not a personal vendetta for me. It is not a personal vendetta from other rescues who want to put an end to this. It is just, it is about the fraud. It's about the horses. Because that, as I said in the beginning, that kill pen owner, broker, trader, whatever you want to call him, he's going to ship X amount of horses anyway. So you're not really saving a horse at all. Now you might think you're saving that horse, but another one's going to go anyway. So it's just this self-perpetuating sort of like circle of fraud. Anyway, so that answers that one question. I'm going to start off because I've already been on it for 13 minutes, and I'm sure people have thought, oh, here we go. She's just rambling now. What I would say is I'm somewhat disappointed about that we've had a lot of people saying, oh, they want to help, they want to help, but they're not actually reaching out. So we can only do this. I can't do this on my own. We can't be doing it in a vacuum. So again, I say that if you want this practice to start, then you need to reach out and we can come up with a plan that will provide evidence and facts, but we can't do that without the help of other people. So email. If you comment, I might not see it. So email, text even. Our phone number is on our website. You can get it from there. And we will then sort out how we want to take this and who can do what and et cetera, et cetera. So anyway, I'm going to sign off. You've probably all fallen asleep, but I'm going to sign off and I will answer some other questions sort of on a daily basis if I can. I know there was one by a gal called Carina who is asking a question, and I will address that one. So that will likely be tomorrow. Alright, thanks guys and have a good Saturday and I will see you likely tomorrow if you tune in. Thanks guys. Bye.
