Australians may have to pay more for home insurance due to climate disasters. Natural disasters globally impact Australia, making insurance premiums rise in disaster-prone areas. A new approach is needed to prevent falls among aged care residents. Fall-related injuries in this population cost $325 million annually. Male residents and those with a normal body mass index are at higher risk. Toxic smoke from a mine in New South Wales is a concern. A fire broke out and reignited, but no injuries reported. International Kite Day originated in India. The festival marks the end of winter and symbolizes prosperity. Australians will have the rare opportunity to view four planets in the next three months. Mars, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn will be visible with the naked eye, and Neptune and Uranus may be seen with a telescope. Australia has a one-nil lead in the Women's Ashes Series. The weather in the city is currently 28.9 degrees, with a maximum of 72.8 degrees expected. Good morning, I'm Laura Devoy. Australians may have to pay more for their home insurance as climate disasters drive up premiums. Analysis from the Australia Institute shows natural disasters have fuelled insurance costs beyond inflation. The think tank says even events on the other side of the world like the Los Angeles fires can impact Australians as the factors which increase the frequency and scale of natural disasters globally also affect Australia. It says disaster prone regions of Australia are becoming unaffordable due to rising insurance premiums. Preventing falls among aged care residents requires a new tailored approach. That's among the findings of research from the University of Queensland. It's put the cost of fall related injuries in aged care at $325 million annually for the health system. It's also found male residents were twice as likely to suffer a fall than females and those with a normal body mass index were also at higher risk. Dr. Charles Okafor from UQ's Centre for Health Services Research says that differs to fall related injuries in the community which is why preventative strategies must be carefully considered. There are concerns about toxic smoke potentially emanating from a mine in far western New South Wales. A fire broke out in Perillia's Southern Zinc Lead and Silver mine on Sunday night. It was extinguished yesterday morning but reignited on its own. Dozens of miners were evacuated. There were no injuries. New South Wales Police Inspector Chris Wallace told the ABC robotic technology is being sent underground today to determine the size of the blaze. It's difficult to gauge what was yesterday, the size and how big that fire was. We don't believe it to be overly large. We believe it may have spread as you said up a level through shafting. We say residents should remain indoors and keep window doors and vents closed. Its beginnings can be traced back in China more than 2,000 years ago but it's the Hindi celebration where International Kite Day originated. Today's events come ahead of one of the biggest kite flying festivals in Australia. Shannon Kirkwood reports. The first written record of the kite is from 200 BC in China. The activity was documented in India around 500 years ago. The kite festival, Uttarayan in Hindi, has its origins in Gujarat. It marks the end of winter and the onset of longer days. The kite cementer symbolises prosperity and positivity. Kite enthusiasts and kite makers from around the world have been gathering in Western India this week while in Sydney this weekend the Consulate General of India is co-hosting the kite flying festival. Attendees will construct and decorate kites at the venue and will fly them into the early evening. Australians will have the rare opportunity to view four planets over the next three months. Mars, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn will all be visible from Earth with the naked eye, sometimes at the same time. And if you have access to a telescope you might also be able to spot Neptune and Uranus. The best time for viewing is just after sunset, away from the city lights. Turning to sport, the second match of the Women's Ashes Series will get underway shortly. Australia will take on England in a one-day international in Melbourne. Australia has a one-nil lead in the series after winning the first match in Sydney by four wickets. Good morning listeners, before we begin the show let's take a quick look at the weather with weatherman DJ Jesse. Oh, where was I? DJ Jesse, what did you get up to over the weekend? What did I get up to? I think you told me that you were helping your dad with the Renaults in the garage. Yes. Yeah? You said, what were you helping him with? Um, putting the plaster in the trailer. In the trailer. Some hard yakka, was it? Tell me about it. Wow. Yeah, so you did some hard work with your dad helping him. What's he doing in the garage? Well, he's turning the garage into a recording studio. Oh, of course he is. Yeah, that's what Dad's vocation is. And profession. He's a music producer, isn't he? Yes. Yeah, hence the reason why you have such an amazing music face. And he's getting a large, up to Daisy doll. Okay, and what about the garage? I like how you segwayed into the doll there, straight from the garage. That was incredible. Shall we play some music for the show? Yeah, let's kick things off with the soulful sounds of Greta Stanley. Ooh, someone local. Local, lads. Here's Close Call to set the mood. Ooh, joy. Ooh, swish. I tried to cut through the noise, but I never held a sharp enough knife, and a blunt blade only made for a close call. I escape unscathed, but I was hoping for something more. If I muster up all of my might, if I hold a grip, I'll hold it tight. My words can trudge like a sharp edge, and I'll make you out into a shape I like. Burning orange sunlight draws those blinds out of me, and on its flight I'm easing on its flight. Burning orange sunlight draws those blinds out of me, and on its flight I'm easing on its flight. Thoughts start my heart. It changes, rearranges, and falls apart. I'm disengaging. My eyes glazing me. Empty fucking conversations. I don't need them much. You only want my answering system. Feed your own persona. I'd rather be a little less insanity than soaked in ego. Tell me, how's that going for you? Burning orange sunlight draws those blinds out of me, and on its flight I'm easing on its flight. Burning orange sunlight draws those blinds out of me, and on its flight I'm easing on its flight. Not enough hours in a day. I want to be in more than just one place. I'll find a friend on a bad day's better end. To see me through to the morning light. And to burning orange sunlight draws those blinds out of me, and on its flight I'm easing on its flight. It's not just Hilchlock Hoods who are bringing the energy today, is it? No. No, you're bringing your own little spice to the... Yeah. Yeah, spice to the session. Ad-libbing. Off-script. Going rogue. Yeah. Loose cannon. Yeah. Yeah. We've got some more good news. I'm excited to share that a groundbreaking development for the autistic community here in Australia is taking place. The federal government has launched the nation's first ever National Autism Strategy. This is a monumental step towards addressing the barriers faced by autistic Australians in their everyday lives, including challenges in employment, education, health, and social inclusion. The strategy, which runs until 2031, focuses on four key pillars. They are social inclusion, which is creating a more understanding and accepting society for autistic individuals, economic inclusion, so providing better pathways and support for employment opportunities, services and support, improving access to essential diagnostic tools and services for autistic people and their families, and health and mental health, ensuring comprehensive support for the physical and mental well-being of autistic Australians. This initiative is backed by a $42 million investment. Nearly $20 million will fund peer support programs, enabling autistic people to connect with others in their community. Another $12 million is dedicated to research into neurodiversity, helping us better understand autism and tailor policies and services to meet the needs of autistic individuals. There's also funding set aside for community awareness campaigns to foster greater understanding of autism. Claire Givalini, I believe I'm saying that right, an autistic advocate and co-chair of the National Autism Strategy Oversight Council, has highlighted the significance of this moment, saying that this strategy recognises that the autistic community has unique needs and has historically been left behind in many ways. So this is a major leap forward in making sure autistic voices are heard and included. While this strategy is an incredible foundation, some advocates point out that more work is needed in areas like housing and education, which remain the responsibility of state and territory governments. However, it's clear that this is a step in the right direction towards creating a more inclusive and supportive society. If you'd like to learn more about the strategy, or if you're curious about how it might impact you or someone you know, you can find out all the details on the Department of Social Services website. I believe, are you okay there, Jess? We wanted to hear from another autistic voice right now. Hang on. Step in the right direction. That's the same title of the song, but from the Disney movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks. I have not seen, I have not even heard the words Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Bedknobs and Broomsticks. It has Angela Lansbury in it. Oh, really? Bedknobs and Broomsticks. I remember it. It's a Christmas Christ The Apprentice Witch. She actually sang that song, Step in the Right Direction. Yep. By the Shannon Brothers. Okay, okay. Look at him, he's like an encyclopedia here. Should we play it on next week's show? Yeah, if I download it. Yeah, you can download it. You can download it legally, yeah? Yeah. You never download it legally, do you? No. You don't use any tool or anything like that? You don't use any... Where do you get your music from? I download MP3s from MP3Juice. Yep. Which is a legal, viable streaming site, I believe. Yeah. Cool. Alright, download it. Let's get it on to Angela Lansbury. Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Yes. There's only one song. Okay, how does it go? Do you want to sing it for us? I don't know how the song goes. Do you want to hum it? Go on, give us a little rendition. Give us a little rendition. No, we haven't got time to look through your phone for it. What have you got? After all, it's a step in the right direction. Yeah, my man. Voice of an angel, this one. Oh, dude. Right. Angela Lansbury did the voice of Dowager Empress Marie and Anastasia. Yep. Didn't she play for Honsus as well? No, she did the voice of Mrs. Potts, the tea pot in Beauty and the Beast. Right. Didn't she voice Shrek as well? No. No? Was it Donkey? No. Eddie Murphy voiced Donkey. Of course it was Eddie Murphy. Yeah. Right. Should we play some more music? We've gone well off script here. Should we play some more music? What have we got? Bedknobs and Broomsticks? Let's next up a junior collaboration. Oh, next up a junior collaboration. And it came in part of Mr. Wavesby Mix.
