Davis is known for his dedication, approachability, and wise maneuvering in the State House. Dane Scalise is the heir apparent, known for his conservative ideals and consensus-building. A new era begins as Davis retires.
This is the Wilmington Standard Daily Update for Tuesday, November 18th, 2025, an end of an era. Yesterday, State Representative Ted Davis, Jr. announced he will not seek re-election to the North Carolina House. Representative Davis has been in that position since 2012. He is one of the most powerful and influential members of the State House, and the respect of his work and character flow over into the Senate and Governor's Mansion as well. Prior to the State position, Mr.
Davis also served the people of New Hanover County as a Commissioner for 16 years. To say that Mr. Davis is probably tired is an understatement, but it is the type of tired one only gets after a day, or in this case a lifetime, of hard work that has resulted in good things for New Hanover County and for North Carolina. Representative Davis is the icon of a statesman, dedicated to serving those he represents, wise in the way of maneuvering through the State House, approachable by all, and just feisty enough to know when to clap back at the foolishness of both parties when needed.
He is a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and man of deep faith. You will be missed, Mr. Davis, but we wish you all the best in your retirement. You have certainly earned it. The heir apparent is current County Commissioner Dane Scalise. Mr. Scalise is the new paradigm of statesmanship. He is as equally dedicated to his conservative ideals and is not afraid to push for them. He is a consensus builder and knows how to work within the system, but he is also a pioneer who will make his own tracks when the need arises.
He is fiery in speech, but equally fiery in listening. Like Mr. Davis, he is a dedicated family man, although grandchildren are still some years away, and a man of deep faith who believes his political stances are born out of his spiritual dedication. And just like that, a new era begins. For the Wilmington Standard, I'm Rule Sample. Thanks for listening.
