Violet, Klaus, and Sonny Borden's parents died in a fire, and Mr. Paul found a relative, Klaus Olaf, to take care of them. They arrive at Klaus Olaf's house and find it to be in poor condition. Mr. Paul suggests using some of their money to fix it, but Klaus Olaf refuses, saying the money is not to be used. Olaf gives Mr. Paul a look as if he needs help. The bad beginning characters, Violet, Klaus, Sonny, Mr. Paul, Klaus Olaf. 14 year old Violet, 12 year old Klaus and baby Sonny Borden and their parents were killed in a fire that burned the house down. Mr. Paul find a relative to care for them. These ones stay outside Klaus Olaf's house. Violet, Klaus, Sonny enter from stage left followed by Mr. Paul. Here we are, their new home.
