The Moda Podcast discusses the history of motorcycles and emphasizes the importance of motorcycle safety. The first motorcycle, built in 1885, had a 4-stroke engine and a top speed of 7 mph. Modern motorcycles have evolved to reach speeds of up to 130 mph. Transmission has also improved from a single speed belt driven system to a 5-speed transmission with a chain. Carburetors have been replaced by fuel injection in most motorcycles. While the first motorcycle was made of wood, modern bikes are typically made of steel or aluminum. The podcast stresses the need for safety gear such as helmets, eye protection, leather pants, jackets, and sturdy footwear. Welcome to the Moda Podcast, today we will be talking about the history of motorcycles and the importance of motorcycle safety. The first motorcycle was created in 1885 by a German engineer. It was powered by a 4-stroke engine pushing a whopping 0.5 horsepower which gave him a top speed of around 7 mph. To support all of that power, it was on a wooden frame. Just like that two-wheel death trap in 1885, newer motorcycles are powered by a 4-stroke engine, but they gained a lot of speed up the years. Your normal biker will be on one of three bikes, a cruiser, sport bike, or dual sport, and these bikes averaged a top speed of 130 mph compared to the one on the wooden frame. Not to mention, the transmission on the first ever motorcycle was a single speed belt driven transmission. Your typical motorcycle these days are going to be on a 5-speed transmission pushing the power with a chain. It gives the rider more power and a smoother ride. Also the first motorcycle gets its fuel from a carburetor. Nowadays only 5% of biker's motorcycles have a carburetor. Most bikes are fuel injected. Moreover, the first motorcycle was built on some wooden from the guy's backyard. Nowadays your bike is going to be most likely built out of steel or aluminum, but we can go on and on about the differences between the two. The most important topic when talking about motorcycles is the gear that keeps you safe. You should at least have a helmet and eye protection, but if you really want to be safe get you some nice leather pants and a nice jacket. Also get some good footwear, maybe some leather boots or something like that, it will really help you when you lay it over, which will happen.
