This podcast discusses the problems faced by Earth-inners in the movie WALL-E and how they reflect real-life issues. It explores the consequences of humanity abandoning Earth and emphasizes the need to help our planet. The podcast asks if the portrayal in the movie is an exaggeration or if Earth could really become as polluted. It highlights the importance of addressing the destruction of the Earth's environment and suggests ways to slow down and decrease the impact of climate change. The podcast also explores the themes of friendship and courage in WALL-E and how they relate to real life. WALL-E's attachment to his trinkets is explained as a way to cope with loneliness. This podcast, The Aerostatic Climate Talks, is written and recorded by Alana Harlow, Sylvie Metz, and Annabel Ellis. The opening music is written on flat by Sylvie Metz. This podcast is about the problems that Earth-inners inhabitants face in the movie WALL-E and how those problems are a major prospect in reality as well. We will explore the consequences of what happened when humanity in the film abandoned Earth and why we need to help, not hurt, our planet. If this problem is left undiscussed, humanity could very well end up doing the same thing. How do you feel about the circumstances of WALL-E's Earth in comparison to the world that we live in today? The circumstances are very different to what we are used to in 2024 and it is not what you would expect for our planet. If we keep destroying the Earth at this rate, it will become a harsh reality and the endless towers of rubbish will replace our homes just like in the film. Do you think that if we continue on this path, the Earth will really be as polluted as the director made it to be and that they exaggerated the portrayal of humans, leaving Earth behind out of cowardice for their own wrongs? The problems that we face are remarkably similar to WALL-E. There are certainly some people in the world who fantasise about ignoring their problems and leaving them behind. Many of us are aware of the polluting of the planet, but too many of us are ignoring the problem and turning a blind eye. How do you think we can slow down and decrease the rapid destruction of the Earth's environment? There are many things we can do to contribute to sustaining the Earth and lessen the impact of climate change. These ways include using reusable items such as shopping bags or coffee cups, compost bins or solar, hydro and wind energy when the choice arises. When WALL-E finds a lost plant, he keeps it so that he can give it to Eve. Doing this is a struggle and extremely hard while spots are being ordered to destroy it. Why do you think that WALL-E would sacrifice this much? At the beginning of the film, WALL-E is portrayed as an extremely lonely character with only a cockroach to keep him company. Everything changes when he meets Eve. WALL-E is then determined to keep Eve as his friend and will do anything for her. In WALL-E, there is an ongoing theme of friendship. This is portrayed in numerous ways from the malfunctioning robots helping WALL-E to Eve trying to keep him safe. How do you think that this theme of companionship is represented in reality? This topic of friendship is shown in everyone. From the simple compliment to daring rescue, it was born in the most unlikely places. This includes in the beloved Pixar film, WALL-E. The opening theme music is slow, sad and in a minor key. But then we hear the joyful melodies of Sunday clothes as soon as WALL-E's character is introduced. What do you think is the meaning of this huge contrast? The opening theme music of the movie symbolises the dreadful environment the film is set in at the beginning. The Sunday clothes more reflects on WALL-E's personality and positive attitude towards the dire circumstances that Earth is facing. WALL-E reflects multiple times on the topic of courage. This is shown throughout the film in places such as when he follows Eve by climbing onto the side of the rocket and the scene that he holds up the platform that the plant is inserted into at the expense of crushing himself. How do you think bravery is reflected in these actions and how does it relate to day to day life? WALL-E is very courageous in the sense that he will sacrifice himself for others but before he met Eve his character seemed much shyer. This was shown particularly where Eve first landed on Earth and WALL-E was in fear of approaching her. WALL-E then learns that the thing he needs most is friendship and so is willing to do anything for it. The actions and the things he committed himself to reflect the aspect of bravery as WALL-E did whatever he felt he needed to for others even if he might not have wanted to. The theme of courage and the theme of friendship in WALL-E are grouped together in many ways just as it is for us. WALL-E collected new objects almost every day. Why do you think he was so attached to his little trinkets? So much so that he was willing to show them to a stranger that he only just met. The seemingly random objects represented his personality and his limitless curiosity. Although one might not see any meaning in these trinkets, WALL-E used them to help him cope with his loneliness. This podcast is recorded on the lands of the Boomerang People of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to elders past and present. WALL-E
