In a former life, I served in the Royal Ait Force and spent an illuminating few months at the American Air Force base at Greenham Common. I became friendly with an American aircraft technician who had served in Vietnam and of all the stories he shared with me, one in particular resonated with me. It was not a tale of war, but of the aftermath and the treatment of the veterans when they returned. In particular I was shocked by the number of homeless veterans on the streets of America.
