St. Robert Bellarmine
Robert Bellarmine, a prominent figure in the Counter-Reformation, was an Italian Jesuit and a cardinal of the Catholic Church. In recognition of his contributions to the Church, he was canonized a saint in 1930 and bestowed the title of Doctor of the Church. Throughout his career, he served as a professor of theology and later became the rector of the Roman College. In 1602, he was appointed as the Archbishop of Capua. Bellarmine was a strong advocate of the reform decrees of the Council of Trent.
