Dizygotic twins, also known as fraternal twins, develop from two sets of eggs and sperms and can have the same or different sex. Monozygotic twins, also known as identical twins, develop from the same egg and sperm and always have the same sex. Monozygotic twins can be divided into three types based on the timing of division after fertilization. So same same but different, let's see what is the difference between twins. So there are two types of twins, they are either dizygotic twins or the monozygotic twins. So the dizygotic twins are also known as the fraternal twins. The fraternal twins, they develop from two sets of eggs and sperms and they can either have the same sex or different sex. But the monozygotic twins, they are also known as the identical twins and they develop from the same egg in the sperm and they do have the same sex. The monozygotic twins are of three types, they are either diamneotic-dichorionic in which the division takes place in less than three days of fertilization, in monochorionic-diamneotic the division takes place within four to eight days of the fertilization and in monochorionic-monoamniotic the division takes place beyond the eight days of fertilization.
