First introduced during the World's Columbian Exhibition in 1893 at the Street in Cairo exhibit, the melody "The Streets of Cairo or the Poor Little Country Maid" has earned various nicknames including "the snake charmer's song" and "there's a place in France". Over the years, it has frequently been used as a musical accompaniment to belly-dancing and has made appearances in many cartoons. A rendition of this tune by Samuel Stokes was highlighted on the Dr. Demento Show. For more information on Samuel Stokes, visit http://www.Samue
