In his fourteenth year, Joseph Smith ventured into a woodland to seek divine guidance about the true church he should affiliate with. In this moment, both God and His son, Jesus Christ, revealed themselves to him in a direct encounter. The manifestation of God and His son to the youthful Joseph Smith marked the return of a prophet to the earth. This incident, known as the first vision, affirmed to Joseph Smith that God is very much alive. God, along with His son Jesus Christ, continues to be alive and showers us with love today.
